Varejao recorded six points (1-4 FG, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot over 21 minutes in Monday's preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Varejao entered the lineup as the Cavs' starting power forward while Kevin Love (shoulder) remained sidelined for a third straight game. Love, who resumed full-contact practices Saturday, is expected to make his preseason debut later this week, putting Varejao on track to open the regular season in a bench role. Unless the team is able to resolve its contract dispute with holdout Tristan Thompson, it looks like Varejao will be the top reserve big man behind starters Love and Timofey Mozgov.

Varejao confirmed at Monday's media day that he'll be a "full go from the beginning" of training camp, Marlo Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Varejao was limited to only 26 games last season after tearing his Achilles in December. In his absence, the team added Timofey Mozgov via trade, and Mozgov projects to begin the 2015-16 season as the starter. Varejao figures to hold down a consistent role as the first or second big man off the bench, and his minutes load may ultimately be determined by how the Tristan Thompson situation shakes out. Thompson, who was not present at media day, is seeking a contract extension, but if he and the Cavaliers cannot reach an agreement on a new deal or a qualifying offer, it's possible Thompson could hold out.

For what it's worth, Varejao said he expects to be close to the same player after returning from injury, but fantasy players shouldn't be nearly as optimistic.

Varejao's high-energy style of play translated well into fantasy production on Wednesday. The starting center led the way in scoring for the Cavaliers, an unusual occurrence with the caliber of scorers the Cavs have on their roster. Varejao won't always score this many points, but should average around 10 rebounds per game this season.

Varejao is in fact starting at center Monday against the Pelicans, the News-Herald reports.
