Neal (ankle) scored 13 points (5-13 FG, 3-4 3Pt) while seeing a team-high 26 minutes off the bench in the Wizards' 129-95 preseason win over the 76ers on Tuesday.
A sprained left ankle cost Neal the final handful of games with the Timberwolves last season, but after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Wizards in the summer, he entered training camp at full health. Neal has routinely seen just over 20 minutes per night over the last five seasons as a backup point guard, but he'll face perhaps his stiffest competition for that role in his first year in Washington. Along with Neal, veterans Ramon Sessions and Garrett Temple remain in the conversation for backup duties behind John Wall.

Neal agreed to terms Friday with the Wizards on a one-year deal that will pay him $2.1 million, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Neal endured a difficult season in 2014-15, spending time with the Hornets and Timberwolves. The veteran averaged 11.8 points and 3.2 rebounds for Minnesota but struggled mightily in Charlotte, averaging just 9.6 points on 35.9 percent shooting. The Baltimore native will seek a fresh start near his hometown and should carve out 20 or so minutes per game off the bench on most nights.

Neal appeared in only 11 games for the Timberwolves this season after coming over from Charlotte in February.
Neal began the season in Charlotte and struggled mightily through 43 games, averaging 9.6 points on just 35.9 percent shooting. He came to Minnesota in a deal that sent Mo Williams to Charlotte but only appeared in 11 contests, in which he posted averages of 11.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 23.8 minutes. Neal went down with a severely sprained ankle against Charlotte on Mar. 22 and would go on to miss the final 13 games of the season (all Timberwolves losses). Entering the offseason, Neal will be an unrestricted free agent. He's struggled to find a home since leaving San Antonio for Milwaukee two summers ago, but he figures to draw considerable interest as a low-cost, veteran shooter off the bench.

Neal hasn't played since Mar. 22 due to an ankle injury, but his presence at practice suggests he could return as early as Tuesday against the Kings. With the Timberwolves' roster depleted by injuries, Neal could see significant minutes upon his return, though he'd likely remain in a bench role.

Sat Mar 28 201518:31Neal (ankle) out for Sunday's game against Pelicans
Neal (ankle) is out for Sunday's game against the Pelicans.
Neal will be missing a fourth straight game, but beside the one-night show he put on March 22, Neal has really been out ever since March 15. He should be tossed back in most leagues. With his health a question mark, and his role in question, there's no reason to hang on to him in most leagues. Neal's next chance to return will be Monday against the Jazz.

An illness, and now an ankle issue, have kept Neal out of six of the last seven games, and he'll continue to sit out through Friday's matchup with Houston. With a number of injuries to key players, the Wolves have relied upon Zach LaVine and Lorenzo Brown for production in the backcourt. Recent 10-day signee Sean Kilpatrick has also been a part of the rotation, and he played 24 minutes off the bench Wednesday.
