Wed Sep 2 202001:28Chapman's 1st save seals Yankees' 5-3 win over Tampa Bay
NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman threw a 101 mph fastball near the head of pinch-hitter Michael Brosseau while closing out his first save of the season, prompting the benches to empty after New York ended a six-game losing streak against the Tampa Bay Rays with a 5-3 victory Tuesday night.Chapman’s first pitch to Brosseau with two outs in the ninth inning whizzed past Brosseau’s head, and umpires met before issuing warnings to both benches amid a budding rivalry that’s been dominated this season by Tampa Bay. Chapman struck out Brosseau to end it, and Brosseau began walking toward the visiting dugout before turning back to exchange words with someone on the Yankees. The dugouts and benches emptied and players gathered near home plate, but they mostly kept their distance before dispersing to their respective clubhouses.DJ LeMahieu homered twice, and Gio Urshela hit a tiebreaking, three-run Little League homer in the sixth inning as New York beat the Rays at Yankee Stadium for... Thielbar cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
Thielbar was claimed by the Padres after the Twins designated him for assignment earlier in the month, but now he's been DFA'd for a second time. He will return to the Triple-A club he was playing for, but will no longer be a member of the 40-man roster.
Sun Aug 30 201515:20Thielbar designated for assignment by Padres on Sunday
Thielbar was designated for assignment by the Padres on Sunday, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Thielbar was claimed off waivers by the Padres just a month ago and spent all of his time at Triple-A El Paso where he actually pitched well, accruing an ERA of just 1.00 after 9.0 innings on eight outings. Nevertheless, Thielbar's uncertain future allows for Chris Rearick to rejoin the organization after being claimed off waivers Sunday in a related move.
Sat Aug 8 201519:37Thielbar assigned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday
Thielbar was assigned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
Thielbar, who pitched in 98 innings with the Twins over three seasons, was DFA'd last week Friday and appears to have found a home with the Padres after the club claimed him on waivers Saturday. It's unclear if the Padres plan to use Thielbar in the majors in the near future, but he'll pitch in the Pacific Coast League for now with the potential to return in September when the rosters expand beyond 25 players.
Sat Aug 8 201514:18Thielbar claimed off waivers by Padres on Saturday
Thielbar was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Saturday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.
Thielbar was DFA'd to clear roster space at the trade deadline and will now join the Padres organization. The 28-year-old right-hander appeared in six games with the Twins this season, allowing three earned runs over five innings. With the Padres, he's a potential right-handed depth option out of the bullpen if the club decides to call him up to the major league roster.
Fri Jul 31 201517:51Thielbar designated for assignment
Thielbar has been designated for assignment, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune
The move comes in response to the team needing to clear a spot on the 40-man for Kevin Jepsen, who came over in a trade Friday. Thielbar will be subject to waivers, and if he clears, as expected, he'll land back at Triple-A Rochester.

Thielbar was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Friday's game versus the White Sox, Tyler Mason of FOX Sports North reports.
Because Brian Duensing (oblique) was activated from the disabled list, the left-handed Thielbar wasn't needed in the Twins' bullpen any longer. In his six appearances for the team, Thielbar allowed three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five in five innings.
Fri Apr 17 201515:49Thielbar recalled from Triple-A Rochester
Thielbar was recalled from Triple-A Rochester, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Thielbar had thrown 2.1 scoreless innings for Triple-A Rochester. Thielbar could be the primary lefty setup man with Brian Duensing on the DL. Thielbar's lack of fastball velocity (88.8 mph) and mediocre strikeout rate (6.6 K/9 last year) limits his upside, however.
Wed Apr 1 201510:03Thielbar optioned to Triple-A Rochester
Thielbar was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.
Thielbar struggled this spring with a 5.73 ERA but did have a 11:3 K:BB ratio in 11 innings. It's surprising he was sent down since he was in the majors all last season and pitched effectively (3.40 ERA). However, his lack of fastball velocity (88.8 mph) and mediocre strikeout rate (6.6 K/9 last year) limits his upside.

Thielbar has given up three runs in five innings this spring and isn't a lock to make the major league bullpen, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
He does have a 5:1 K:BB ratio in five innings this spring. It's surprising he's on the roster bubble since he was in the majors all last season and effective (3.40 ERA). Thielbar is battling Aaron Thompson, A.J. Achter, J.R. Graham, Mark Hamburger and Stephen Pryor for one of the final two spots in the bullpen.
