Tue Jul 26 202214:36Jesus Luzardo Set For Rehab Start Wednesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (forearm) is set for a rehab outing with the organization's Triple-A affiliate on Wednesday. Luzardo is reportedly scheduled to throw five innings in what will be his third rehab outing. The 24-year-old has pitched to a 4.03 ERA and a 3.75 FIP in six starts spanning 29 innings for the Marlins this season, striking out 41 batters in the process. Luzardo has also allowed 16 walks. His last start in the Majors before heading to the injury list was on May 10. Miami's current rotation options include Sandy Alcantara, Pablo Lopez, Trevor Rogers, and Braxton Garrett.

Thu Jul 7 202219:36Jesus Luzardo, Sixto Sanchez Slated For Bullpens
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) is scheduled to throw around 35 pitches in a two-inning bullpen session on Friday. Meanwhile, right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) will throw around 30 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday. Luzardo has been out almost two months with a left forearm strain and will likely need at least a few minor league rehab starts before he's an option to return to the team's starting rotation. In six starts before his injury, the southpaw had a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 41:16 K:BB ratio in 29 innings. Sanchez, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2022, isn't expected to pitch this year, so he can remain on the waiver wire in single-season formats.

Tue Jul 5 202219:54Jesus Luzardo Throws Bullpen Session
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday. He was moved to the 60-day injured list on June 15, and the Marlins initially thought he would miss just one turn through the rotation. It's unclear how many bullpen sessions Luzardo will need before he's cleared to resume facing live hitters for an eventual minor league rehab assignment. Barring a setback, he could be ready to return to Miami's rotation right around the All-Star break. The 24-year-old southpaw was 2-3 with a 4.03 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP while striking out 41 and walking 16 in 29 innings in his first six starts before going on the shelf.

Sun May 29 202211:57Jesus Luzardo Not Yet Throwing
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) has yet to resume throwing, according to manager Don Mattingly. The Marlins originally thought it would only be a couple days before Luzardo would resume throwing. He will need to be built back up as a starter. "It's not as good as we would've liked," Mattingly said. The 24-year-old southpaw won't be eligible to return from the 15-day injured list when he's eligible while dealing with a strained left forearm, so fantasy managers must be patient. Before the injury, Luzardo had a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, a 34.5% strikeout rate and a career-high 13.5% walk rate in 29 innings pitched over his first six starts for the Marlins. With a 3.77 FIP, Luzardo deserves to be stashed in most fantasy formats.

Sun May 15 202211:15Jesus Luzardo Lands On Injured List With Forearm Strain
The Miami Marlins placed starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (forearm) on the 15-day injured list on Sunday with a left forearm strain. He will be first eligible to return on May 27 as the move to the injured list is retroactive to May 12. However, it's unclear how long he's expected to be out at this point. The team has announced that Cody Poteet will start for the team in a bullpen game against the Washington Nationals on Monday, a game that Luzardo had been previously scheduled to start. Luzardo has had an up-and-down start to the year with a 4.03 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 34.5% strikeout rate.

Tue Mar 22 202216:23Jesus Luzardo Throws Three Perfect Innings On Tuesday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was outstanding in Tuesday's Grapefruit League start against the St. Louis Cardinals. He tossed three perfect innings, striking out two while throwing 47 pitches, 30 for strikes. He was easily hitting 99 mph on the radar gun. Luzardo was the return for the Marlins in the Starling Marte trade last season, and showed flashes of brilliance despite ending the season with a 6.44 ERA in 12 starts as a Marlin. He's essentially guaranteed a rotation spot to start the season, but with the Marlins having depth at the position, he may not get too many chances to prove he's worthy of the opportunity. Still, he drips with upside and could be a frontline fantasy starter if he gets it all together.

Sat Oct 2 202123:41Jesus Luzardo Strikes Out 11 On Saturday
Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo wrapped up his season with a strong start on Saturday, striking out 11 Phillies hitters in 5 1/3 innings of work. He allowed just one run on six hits without allowing a walk or a home run. While the 11 strikeouts, a career high, were certainly encouraging, perhaps more encouraging was the fact that Luzardo did not allow a home run or a walk, both things that have plagued him throughout the 2021 season. The young lefty has plenty of upside heading into next season, which will be his first full year as a Marlin.

Fri Sep 10 202100:01Jesus Luzardo Pitches Well Again On Thursday
Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo continued his solid run of late with another solid start on Thursday against the New York Mets. Luzardo pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out eight. The rookie lefty threw 97 pitches, 58 strikes. He started his Marlins career rather poorly, but he's had a few starts in a row where he's pitched well. His ERA is down to 6.72, and his arrow is definitely pointing straight up.

Fri Sep 3 202122:31Jesus Luzardo Just One Out Shy Of A Quality Start
Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo pitched pretty well again on Friday, falling just one out away from a quality start. "The Jesus Lizard" pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. He lowered his ERA to an even 7.00 and has looked significantly better in his two most recent starts after a poor beginning to his Marlins career. Luzardo probably should have been given the chance to finish the sixth inning, as he was at 90 pitches and had just one runner on base, but Don Mattingly has never managed a starting pitcher correctly, so it was no surprise to see Luzardo lifted mid-inning. The rookie lefty has shown enough promise to be worth rostering in dynasty and keeper formats, but it is still hard to trust him in a lineup this season.

Mon Aug 30 202108:57Jesus Luzardo Shines In Victory
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was dominant in Sunday's victory versus the Cincinnati Reds. The young lefty earned a quality start with six innings of one-hit ball. He also gave up zero runs, walked one and struck out eight on the afternoon. Luzardo came over from the Oakland Athletics for outfielder Starling Marte earlier in the season. The lefty was one of the more highly touted prospects in the game entering the season, but he has struggled with both clubs this season and is 5-7 with a 7.19 ERA on the year. Luzardo may not be much of an asset this season, but he showed glimpses of what he could on Sunday and he is still worth a look in dynasty leagues. Next up for the lefty will be a matchup versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Wed Aug 25 202101:19Jesus Luzardo Allows 10 Hits In Under Five Innings
Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was essentially throwing batting practice in his start against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Luzardo threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He gave up two home runs and continues to struggle enormously since being acquired from the Oakland A's. As a Marlin, Luzardo has a 9.68 ERA and only one more strikeout than walks. He's shown flashes of brilliance within his poor starts, but the Marlins would certainly like to see him put it together for more than a batter or two.

Wed Aug 18 202123:29Jesus Luzardo Struggles Again On Wednesday Night
Miami Marlin starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo struggled again in Wednesday's start against the Atlanta Braves. Luzardo went just three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks, striking out four. The lefty threw 74 pitches, only 42 strikes. He clearly has excellent stuff, but if he can't throw strikes, it won't matter. Luzardo has time to continue developing at the big league level in a lost season for the Marlins.

Sat Aug 14 202102:11Jesus Luzardo Allows Five Runs But Gets A Win
Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo wasn't particularly good in Friday's start against the Chicago Cubs, but he didn't need to be, as the Marlins offense put up 14 runs. Luzardo earned a win despite allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in five innings of work. He struck out six but gave up two home runs. Luzardo has shown some flashes of brilliance and seems to have an elite curveball already. If his other pitches can catch up to his curve, he has ace upside. For now, he's 4-5 with a 7.52 ERA. Far from an ace.

Sun Aug 8 202101:54Jesus Luzardo Struggles On Saturday
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo struggled in his second Marlins start on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. Luzardo lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out just two. Luzardo clearly has electric stuff, but his control has been a huge issue, as too many of his pitches either miss the zone entirely or split the plate as far too hittable pitches. He now gets to work with the Marlins coaching staff, who have been excellent at developing pitchers. Luzardo's ceiling is sky high, but he's too much of a risk to be rostered in redraft leagues this season.

Tue Aug 3 202100:24Jesus Luzardo Earns A Win In His First Marlins Start
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo earned a win in his first start as a Marlin on Monday. Facing the New York Mets, Luzardo pitched five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five. Luzardo struggled a little with his control, throwing 47 of his 84 pitches for strikes and missing his spots badly at times, but he showed his upside by looking nearly unhittable when throwing strikes. Luzardo will likely spend the rest of the season in the starting rotation, but his fantasy value will come next season after he's had more of a chance to work with Marlins pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, Jr. Luzardo should be rostered in all keeper and dynasty formats.

Tue Aug 3 202100:20Jesus Luzardo Earns Win In Marlins Debut
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo earned his third win of the season after going five innings against the New York Mets on Monday in his debut start for the club. The 23-year-old managed to strike out five and get through five innings, despite giving up four hits, walking three, and recording only 47 strikes on 84 pitches. These final two months of the season present a perfect change-of-scenery opportunity for Luzardo to regain his confidence after being traded for Oakland Athletics outfielder Starling Marte on July 28. Luzardo represents a buy-low option in dynasty formats, and warrants stash consideration in redraft leagues to see if he can string together a few solid starts. On the season, the left-hander is 3-4 with a 6.70 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 45 strikeouts over 43 innings. Luzardo's next start will come this weekend in Colorado versus the Rockies.

Mon Aug 2 202118:20Jesus Luzardo Starting Monday's Game
The Miami Marlins have called up rookie left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo, and he will start Monday's game against the New York Mets. Luzardo was acquired before the trade deadline in a one-for-one deal with the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Starling Marte. Luzardo was immediately optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville, but did not make an appearance there. He'll make his Marlins and National League debut in the series opener against the Mets. There is a ton of upside in Luzardo's left arm, but the small sample of his big league numbers shows that there may still be some work to be done. Luzardo should be rostered in all dynasty and keeper formats, but redraft managers may want to wait and see how the lefty does in his first start or two on his new team.

Fri Jul 30 202101:35Rays thump Cole, Yanks with 10-run inning to avoid sweep
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Luis Patiño outpitched Gerrit Cole, Brett Phillips hit a grand slam during a 10-run sixth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays avoided a three-game sweep by routing the New York Yankees 14-0 on Thursday. Patiño (2-2) allowed three hits in six innings. The 21-year-old right-hander, acquired in the trade that sent Blake Snell to San Diego last December, struck out eight and walked two. Cole (10-6) gave up a season-high eight runs — seven earned — on six hits over 5 1/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.74 to 3.11. He had 10 strikeouts and two walks. Austin Meadows homered twice and drove in five runs for the Rays. Louis Head and Ryan Sherriff completed a four-hitter. All nine batters in the Rays’ lineup reached base in the sixth. Wed Jul 28 202113:22Starling Marte Traded To Oakland, Jesus Luzardo To Miami
Miami Marlins outfielder Starling Marte has been traded to the Oakland Athletics, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. In exchange, the Athletics have sent starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo to Miami. Marte has been having a bounce back year at the plate so far, slashing .306/.407/.453 with seven homers, 22 steals, 25 RBI and 52 runs scored over 63 games. Meanwhile, Luzardo was 2-4 this year for Oakland with a 6.87 ERA, 1.632 WHIP and 23.1 percent strikeout rate over 38 innings of work. Luzardo will be a reclamation project for Miami, as they hope to find the top prospect potential he had shown in the minors that had not yet appeared at the major league level. Meanwhile, Marte will see an uptick in value playing with a better Oakland offense, as he now rounds out an outfield that already includes Mark Canha and Ramon Laureano. Managers should try to acquire Marte now, as he should have better numbers in the second half of the season with Oakland.
