Tue May 2 202308:35Josh Donaldson Doing Baseball Activities
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is currently participating in baseball activities. The 37-year-old is hitting, throwing, and has begun a running program. Donaldson is trying to return from a right hamstring strain that he sustained earlier in the season and has kept him out of action since April 5. Over his five games, he's slashing .125/.176/.313 with one home run. Injuries have been an issue for Donaldson lately, as he hasn't played more than 135 games since 2019. The 13-year veteran's fantasy value has diminished since joining the Yankees, and fantasy managers who don't room on the injured list can drop him.

Fri Apr 21 202300:51Yankees Return Josh Donaldson From Rehab Assignment
The New York Yankees returned infielder Josh Donaldson (hamstring) from his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday. Donaldson's current rehab assignment will come to an end, but he won't be returning to the Yankees' big-league roster just yet. The 37-year-old veteran has had a setback while recovering from a right hamstring strain and is waiting for the results of another MRI exam. It's a disappointing development for Donaldson, who was already off to a poor start in 2023 after a bad season in 2022 for the Yankees. Until Donaldson returns, expect DJ LeMahieu to see most of the starts at third base, which has opened up playing time for young infielder Oswald Peraza at the keystone in the Bronx. It remains to be seen how much longer Donaldson will be out.

Mon Apr 17 202314:15Yankees To Ease Josh Donaldson Back In
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) will be the team's starting third baseman when he returns from the injured list, possibly as soon as this Wednesday. However, Boone also said he will ease Donaldson back into the lineup after two weeks off, and he could cycle through the designated hitter spot with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) now on the IL. As of right now, DJ LeMahieu is the starter at the hot corner, but Donaldson remains a high-level defender at the position. But if Donaldson continues to struggle at the plate, the Yankees could consider cutting him despite still owing him $27 million. The Yankees will give Donaldson time to turn things around, but they could get impatient if he continues to struggle.

Mon Apr 17 202312:06Josh Donaldson Could Return Wednesday
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is scheduled to play in a minor-league rehab game on Tuesday, April 18, for Double-A Somerset, and he could be activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, April 19. He was able to work out on the field at Yankee Stadium last Thursday, and manager Aaron Boone said that Donaldson "looked really good; I just watched him take ground balls, and I thought that looked really good. I heard his BP looked really good. He's feeling good. Now it's just a matter of when (he will be activated)." Hopefully, the 37-year-old will be able to pick things up at the plate when he returns, as he had just two hits in his first 16 at-bats with a solo home run and six strikeouts before landing on the injured list.

Sat Apr 8 202312:05Josh Donaldson Lands On 10-Day Injured List
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) landed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, retroactive to April 6. The veteran tweaked his right hamstring during Wednesday's meeting against the Orioles. Donaldson has struggled this season, batting a miserable .125 with two hits, one RBI, and one homer (16 at-bats) while striking out six times, so his absence should have little impact on the fantasy end. Nevertheless, time off may do the 37-year-old some good. But in the meantime, DJ LeMahieu should handle most of the work at the hot corner.

Fri Apr 7 202314:58Josh Donaldson Likely To Land On Injured List
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list, according to manager Aaron Boone. The 37-year-old was pulled from Wednesday's game due to right hamstring tightness. At first, the Yankees didn't believe it was serious, but it sounds like they've changed their mind. They don't want to take any risks this early in the season. That being said, Donaldson is likely to miss a week or two of action. DJ LeMahieu is expected to take over at the hot corner until Donaldson is healthy again.

Fri Apr 7 202312:17Josh Donaldson Not In Friday's Lineup
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Donaldson tweaked his hamstring in Wednesday's game and will remain out of action on Friday despite having a day off on Thursday. The Yankees don't think his injury is serious, though, so the 37-year-old could be back as soon as Saturday. Donaldson is off to a slow start in 2023, going 2-for-16 (.125) with a solo home run and six strikeouts in five games played. DJ LeMahieu is starting at the hot corner and hitting leadoff for the Yanks against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer on Friday.

Wed Apr 5 202323:42Josh Donaldson's Injury Not Expected To Be Serious
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, "I don't think it's too severe" when asked about third baseman Josh Donaldson's (hamstring) injury. Donaldson was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with right hamstring tightness and could have an MRI exam on Thursday, but the injury doesn't appear to be very severe. The Yankees have an off day on Thursday, so there's a chance the 37-year-old could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. The three-time All-Star is off to a poor start in 2023 as he looks to bounce back from a frustrating season last year in his first season in the Bronx. Through four games, Donaldson has gone 2-for-15 (.133) with a solo home run, a walk and six strikeouts.

Wed Apr 5 202315:14Josh Donaldson Dealing With Hamstring Tightness
Updating a previous report, New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) left Wednesday's game early against the Philadelphia Phillies with right hamstring tightness. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday and should be considered day-to-day for now. The Yankees do not play on Thursday, so there's a chance that the 37-year-old veteran will return on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Hopefully his injury doesn't keep him out too long, as he's already off to a rough start at the plate, going 2-for-15 (.133) with a homer, RBI, one walk and six strikeouts entering Wednesday's game. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Friday to see if he has recovered enough to play.

Wed Apr 5 202314:10Josh Donaldson Departs Early Wednesday
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson left Wednesday's game early with what appeared to be a leg injury. Isiah Kiner-Falefa replaced him at third base. Donaldson is off to a slow start this season, going just 2-for-15 (.133) with one home run and one walk across 16 trips to the plate prior to Wednesday's contest. It's a concerning start considering the 37-year-old endured a down 2022 season when he hit just .222 with 15 HR and a .682 OPS across 132 games. His bat graded out worse than the league average for the first time since the 2012 season as per his 97 wRC+. An update on his status should be available before Friday's series opener versus the Baltimore Orioles following the postponement of Thursday's game due to inclement weather.

Mon Feb 27 202312:37Josh Donaldson Feels Different This Spring
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson began his offseason work earlier than usual and cited a new "intensity" and "focus" in ensuring he was ready for spring training this year. He went 1-for-2 with a single, walk and strikeout in his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday and is ready to bounce back after posting a career-worst .682 OPS for the Yankees in 2022. The 37-year-old former American League MVP in 2015 will need to prove to fantasy managers that he's not in full decline towards the end of his career. "You can definitely see that he put a lot of work in the offseason," said bench coach Carlos Mendoza. "Physically he looks really good. I like where he's at right now physically, mentally." Donaldson will be the team's primary third baseman, but he could find the bench more often if he continues to struggle offensively in 2023.

Tue Feb 7 202318:08Josh Donaldson Projected To Start At 3B For Yankees
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that third baseman Josh Donaldson projects to be the team's starter at third base in 2023 despite hitting .222 with 15 home runs in 2022 in his first year in the Bronx. Donaldson has one year and at least $27 million left on his deal, but the Yankees have explored trading him. Hitting coach Dillon Lawson said that the 37-year-old has been working hard to get back into top form. He saw his walk and strikeout rates go in the wrong direction last year, and his power and on-base percentage also took a dive. Health is also a question as he nears the end of his career. The three-time All-Star and former American League MVP could bounce back in 2023, but there's reason to believe that last year was the beginning of more decline.

Fri Oct 21 202214:05Yankees Won't Move Away From Josh Donaldson At Third Base
New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said that he has no plan to move away from third baseman Josh Donaldson in the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros. "He's got on at a 40% clip in the postseason so far, for all his struggles. We need him to do something big within this series," Boone said. Donaldson has struggled at the plate in seven postseason games so far this October, going 5-for-22 (.227) with no home runs, no RBI, one run scored and 11 strikeouts in 28 plate appearances, but he also has six walks. He's not the only one guilty of striking out too much on the Yankees roster, and his on-base abilities despite his struggles will keep him in the lineup heading into Game 3 of the ALCS in the Bronx on Saturday.

Fri Oct 14 202211:23Josh Donaldson Hitting Fifth In Game 2
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson is at third base and has been moved up to fifth in the batting order for Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Shane Bieber on Friday. Donaldson hit sixth in the first game of the series on Tuesday and went 2-for-2 with two singles and a walk in the 4-1 victory. He's also gone 3-for-10 with two home runs in his career against Bieber. Outfielder Oswaldo Cabrera is moving to the sixth spot with Donaldson moving up in the order on Friday. In 478 at-bats during the regular season, the 36-year-old slugger hit just .222/.308/.374 with 15 home runs, 62 RBI, 59 runs scored and two stolen bases in 132 games in his first year in the Bronx.

Sat Sep 10 202210:59Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson Return Saturday
New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (foot) and third baseman Josh Donaldson are back in the starting lineup on Saturday against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Stanton is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second after missing the last four games after he fouled a ball off his foot on Monday. Fantasy managers will want to get the power-hitting right-hander back into their lineups immediately. Donaldson was reinstated from the paternity list and will return to the lineup after missing the last three games following the birth of his child. He's starting at third base and hitting cleanup for the struggling Bombers. Hopefully for the Yankees, the return of both Stanton and Donaldson can get them going offensively.

Wed Sep 7 202214:38Josh Donaldson Placed On Paternity List
The New York Yankees placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the paternity list on Wednesday. The veteran is batting .220 with a .309 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases in 457 plate appearances in his first season in New York. The Yankees also recalled right-handed pitcher Deivi Garcia from Triple-A to take Donaldson's place on the active roster. Garcia has yet to appear in the Majors this season but made two starts for the Yankees last year. He's pitched to a 7.26 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and 25 walks in 53.1 innings, mainly as a starter, in the minors this season.

Mon Aug 22 202215:34Josh Donaldson Returns Against Mets
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (illness) is back at third base and is hitting fifth on Monday for the opener of the series against the New York Mets and right-hander Max Scherzer. Donaldson missed the last two games with a stomach issue, but he'll be back in there on Monday night. The 36-year-old is looking for his fifth straight game with a hit, but he's batting just .223/.305/.388 on the season with 12 home runs, 47 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases in 358 at-bats. In 17 career at-bats against Scherzer, Donaldson is hitting .176 with no home runs or RBI. In DFS formats, it would probably be wise to ignore the veteran third baseman.

Sun Aug 21 202211:16Josh Donaldson Still Out Against Blue Jays
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (illness) remains out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Donaldson will miss his second straight game due to a stomach ailment. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, and he could even come off the bench on Sunday. DJ LeMahieu is starting at the hot corner and hitting cleanup on Sunday against Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah. LeMahieu is pretty attractive in DFS in the cleanup spot. He's hitting .242 (15-for-62) in the month of August with a homer, one RBI and six runs scored in 15 games played.

Thu Aug 18 202211:34Josh Donaldson Hits Walkoff Grand Slam In Extra Innings
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson played the hero in Wednesday's 8-7, extra-inning win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Donaldson went 1-for-4 with a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Bronx faithful home happy amidst their current slump. The 36-year-old has struggled in August, as have most of the rest of the Yankees hitters, but perhaps this dramatic walkoff win will get them going down the stretch. After Donaldson's heroics, he's now hitting .255 (14-for-55) with three home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs scored and 19 strikeouts in 15 games in the month of August.
