Fri Oct 6 202322:30Vaughn Grissom To Be On NLDS Roster
Atlanta Braves second baseman Vaughn Grissom will be on the team's roster for the National League Division Series against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, which starts on Saturday. In his second major-league season in 2023, Grissom hit .280/.313/.347 with no home runs, three doubles, a triple, nine RBI and five runs scored in just 23 games played. The 22-year-old was more productive at Triple-A Gwinnett, slashing .330/.419/.501 with a .921 OPS, eight home runs, 61 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 74 runs scored in 102 games. Grissom isn't going to be a starter in the best-of-five series against the Phillies, but he will be a useful pinch-runner late in games for his speed on the basepaths.

Tue Aug 15 202312:01Vaughn Grissom Called Up By Braves
The Atlanta Braves called up infielder Vaughn Grissom from the minors on Tuesday to replace second baseman Ozzie Albies (hamstring) on the active roster after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. Grissom began the year with Atlanta before being sent to the minors in May. In his 19 games with the Braves, he had gone 18-for-65 (.277) with no homers, two doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored. The 22-year-old is expected to share playing time at the keystone with Nicky Lopez on the short side of a platoon. At Triple-A Gwinnett, Grissom hit .327/.412/.494 with six homers, 50 RBI, 11 steals and 65 runs scored in 88 games. He's worth a short-term pickup in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues for as long as Albies is sidelined.

Sun May 7 202315:41Braves Option Vaughn Grissom, Activate Orlando Arcia
The Atlanta Braves sent down shortstop Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A prior to Sunday's walk-off triumph over the Orioles. It was a corresponding move as the team activated fellow infielder Orlando Arcia(wrist) from the injured list before the game. The 28-year-old hit eighth in the contest, going 1-for-4 in his return, taking Grissom's roster spot in the process. Arcia is now slashing .327/.389/.510 this season following Sunday's effort, while Grissom wasn't giving the Braves any outstanding stuff with his bat or his glove in Arcia's stead. Grissom possesses significant hitting potential, as evidenced by his .291/.353/.400 triple-slash line from 2022. The 22-year-old's lack of defensive acumen will continue to cost him opportunity at the major-league level, however, until he demonstrates some growth in that facet of his game.

Fri Apr 14 202316:14Vaughn Grissom Hitting Seventh In Season Debut
Atlanta Braves middle infielder Vaughn Grissom is starting at shortstop and is hitting seventh in his season debut in the big leagues on Friday against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Brady Singer. Grissom, who impressed offensively in a short stint in his big-league debut last year, will be the team's starting shortstop moving forward with Orlando Arcia (wrist) on the injured list. The 22-year-old isn't great defensively, but he was hitting .366 with a home run and two stolen bases in 10 games for Triple-A Gwinnett before his call-up. Grissom is currently rostered in 54 percent of Yahoo leagues, but that number should be going up as we get into the weekend, especially if he gets off to a hot start with the Braves in 2023.

Fri Apr 14 202312:08Braves Call Up Vaughn Grissom
The Atlanta Braves recalled infielder Vaughn Grissom from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday and officially placed infielder Orlando Arcia (wrist) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left wrist. With Arcia out for an extended period of time, Grissom is expected to handle the primary shortstop duties after hitting .291 with five home runs, 18 RBI, five stolen bases and 24 runs scored in 41 games for the Braves in his rookie season in 2022. The 22-year-old is a work in progress with the glove, which is why Atlanta opted to start him in the minors in 2023, but he can make noise for fantasy managers with his bat. He was hitting .366 with a home run and two steals at Gwinnett before the call-up, and he's worth snagging off the waiver wire immediately.

Wed Apr 5 202309:31Vaughn Grissom Off To Hot Start
Atlanta Braves shortstop Vaughn Grissom continued his hot start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday with a 3-for-4 effort with a double and RBI. Grissom was a surprise demotion at the end of spring training, but the Braves wanted to get him more seasoning defensively. His replacement at the big-league level, Orlando Arcia, has been off to a hot start himself, but fantasy managers in all formats should remain patient with Grissom likely to force his way back into the big leagues sooner than later. For the season, Grissom is hitting .500 with one homer, four RBI and two stolen bases.

Mon Mar 20 202318:02Braves To Option Vaughn Grissom, Braden Shewmake
The Atlanta Braves will option both shortstops Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the 2023 regular season. Grissom entered spring training as an early favorite to open the year as Atlanta's starting shortstop, but instead it's expected to be veteran Orlando Arcia. Grissom hit an impressive .291/.353/.440 with a .792 OPS, five home runs, 18 RBI, 24 runs scored and five stolen bases in his first 41 MLB games in 2022, but he didn't appear ready to handle the everyday shortstop duties this spring defensively. Shewmake is the team's No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and the Braves will look to get both he and Grissom regular playing time in the minors to begin the 2023 season. Grissom's fantasy value obviously takes a big hit, but it would be a surprise if he's not back in the majors at some point this year.

Mon Feb 13 202316:08Braves Impressed With Vaughn Grissom
Atlanta Braves third base coach/infielders coach Ron Washington has liked what he's seen from young shortstop Vaughn Grissom. "I'm not thinking he can do the job, I know he can do the job," Washington said when asked about Grissom's chances of being the Opening Day shortstop. "But he has to come up in here and he has to win a job. We're not giving him anything. We just tried to get him ready to compete, and he's ready to compete." The Braves are looking to replace All-Star shortstop Dansby Swanson, and the initial replacement could be Orlando Arcia. Grissom began 2022 at High-A and finished the year in the majors, hitting .291 with a .792 OPS in his first 41 big-league games. Some scouts have questioned whether he can stick at the 6, but Washington seems sold that he can.

Thu Feb 9 202313:55Orlando Arcia Could Start At SS; Vaughn Grissom In Minors?
MLB.com's Mark Bowman suggests there's a chance that Atlanta Braves middle infielder Vaughn Grissom will begin the 2023 season in an everyday role with Triple-A Gwinnett if the Braves decide to use Orlando Arcia as the starting shortstop to begin the year. Arcia ranked among the middle of the pack in terms of outs above average as the Milwaukee Brewers' starting shortstop from 2017-20. Grissom has incredible work ethic, but he may not be fully ready for the starting gig just yet after making his major-league debut for Atlanta in 2022. The 22-year-old's defense at the 6 is somewhat in question, so he could use a bit more seasoning on the farm with his glove. But make no mistake, Grissom is the superior offensive weapon in the long term for Atlanta.

Wed Jan 11 202300:35Vaughn Grissom To Serve As Braves' Shortstop?
Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said in an interview with the Athletic Tuesday that he is optimistic that Vaughn Grissom could serve as the team's primary shortstop. The 22-year-old spent time primarily at second base in 2022, but the team now has a hole at that position with Dansby Swanson signing with the Chicago Cubs. Grissom had a nice big-league debut, slashing .291/.353/.440 with five home runs, 18 RBI, and five stolen bases in 156 plate appearances. He may not offer much power, but Grissom's average and speed would make him a nice late-round pick if he were to see consistent playing time in the Braves lineup.

Fri Oct 14 202214:00Vaughn Grissom Getting The Start In Game 3
Atlanta Braves rookie infielder Vaughn Grissom is starting at second base and is hitting eighth in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Aaron Nola on Friday. Orlando Arcia started the first two games of the series at the keystone and was hitless in five at-bats with two walks and a strikeout, so Grissom will get a chance to do something for Atlanta. In his first major-league season, Grissom hit a strong .291/.353/.440 with five home runs, 18 RBI, 24 runs scored and five stolen bases in 156 plate appearances and 41 games. The 21-year-old hit .273 (27-for-99) with three of his five long balls against right-handers in 38 games in 2022.
