Sat Apr 16 202221:46Shane Baz Transferred To 60-Day IL
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Shane Baz (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday. He underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in late March. Tampa Bay acquired right-hander Javy Guerra from the Giants and moved Baz to make room on the 40-man roster. The 22-year-old can return in June at the earliest but has plenty of upside after posting a 2.03 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, and an 18:3 K: BB across 13 1/3 innings in 2021. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Baz in all league formats.

Mon Mar 21 202216:54Shane Baz Undergoes Elbow Surgery
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz (elbow) underwent arthroscopic surgery on Monday to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, Texas. Baz is expected to return to throwing in two to three weeks. The 22-year-old is the No. 12 overall prospect in all of baseball entering the 2022 season and was projected to begin the year in Tampa's starting rotation. In his first three major league starts in 2021, he looked good with a 2.03 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 18 strikeouts over 13 1/3 innings. Hopefully for those that invest in Baz, he won't miss too much time in the opening month of the season. Ryan Yarbrough, Josh Fleming and Jalen Beeks will be competing for a rotation spot with Baz injured.

Wed Sep 22 202121:54Shane Baz To Make His Next Start On Sunday
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane Baz had a solid MLB debut against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. As a result, the team is keeping him around for another start. He will make his second MLB start on Sunday against the Miami Marlins. Baz pitched five innings in his first start, allowing two hits, no walks and two earned runs while striking out five. He was held to 65 pitches in the game and he likely won't be extended much beyond that in his next start. The 22-year-old is the Rays' top prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Sun Sep 19 202106:50Shane Baz Will Make His MLB Debut Monday
Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Shane Baz (back) will make his major league Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. He originally was scheduled to pitch Friday but was scratched due to back spasms. The 22-year-old posted a 2.06 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and a 12.9 K/9 across 78 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. Baz is the Rays' top prospect, but it's unclear if he will be on a pitch count for Monday's start. The Rays rookie phenom has a ton of upside and is worth rostering for the season's final two weeks. Despite the tough matchup against a loaded Blue Jays offense, Baz can be used as a streamer in Monday's slate.

Thu Sep 16 202117:38Shane Baz Could Make His MLB Debut On Friday
Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Shane Baz could make his MLB debut in Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Topkin also suggested that the Rays could roll with a bullpen game on Friday or move Luis Patino up a day from Saturday to Friday. Baz is the team's top overall prospect based on MLB.com's prospect rankings. The 22-year-old right-hander has split the 2021 season at Double-A and Triple-A. Over 78.2 innings, he's posted a 2.06 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP while averaging 12.9 K/9. If the Rays do indeed call him up, he likely wouldn't pitch too deep into Friday's game, but he could very well deliver some strong ratios against a weak Tigers lineup.
