Tue May 17 202213:19Michael Kopech On Paternity List, Davis Martin Starting Tuesday
The Chicago White Sox placed starting pitcher Michael Kopech on the paternity list on Tuesday and selected the contract of right-hander Davis Martin from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. The team also recalled right-hander Kyle Crick from Charlotte for the doubleheader and moved left-hander Garrett Crochet to the 60-day injured list. Kopech will be away from the team for at least three days, so he could make his next scheduled start on Friday against the New York Yankees. The 26-year-old has been lights-out in seven starts with a 1.54 ERA and 33 K's in 35 innings. Martin will make his big-league debut in Game 2 against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, but he's expected to head right back to the minors after the start.

Mon May 16 202212:50Michael Kopech Takes First Loss Sunday
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech has been a revelation to start the season, but he could not avoid a loss on Sunday against the New York Yankees. Kopech allowed three runs on one hit and four walks in six innings while striking out three batters. It was his first quality start, and decision of any kind, this year. With a 1.54 ERA and 0.94 WHIP through seven starts, Kopech clearly deserves better than his 0-1 record. A 33-17 K-BB rate leaves plenty to be desired but Kopech has managed to strand plenty of those free passes on base, and it looks like a major breakout is developing.

Wed Apr 20 202201:00Michael Kopech Strong In First Two Starts Of Season
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech has looked like the player fantasy managers were hoping for through his first two starts of the season. The 26-year-old has compiled a 1.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and 23.5% strikeout rate against the Tigers and the Rays. It is a small sample size and Kopech will likely have his innings monitored as the season progresses, but he looks to be continuing where he left off after a strong 2021 season. He will look to keep things going in his next matchup, likely a decent one at the Twins.

Wed Mar 30 202214:33Michael Kopech To Make Spring Debut Friday
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech will make his Cactus League debut on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds. Kopech is slated to toss two innings after getting a late start to camp due to an illness over the winter. The 25-year-old right-hander is in competition with Vince Velasquez and Reynaldo Lopez for the final spot in the team's starting rotation to begin the year. If he's able to get stretched out, Kopech should be the front-runner for the job, and he also has the most fantasy upside due to his strikeout abilities. Keep in mind that the White Sox won't need a fifth starter until April 16, and Kopech's workload will be limited in 2022 after missing all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons and throwing just 69 1/3 frames last year.

Wed Mar 23 202212:18Michael Kopech Throwing Bullpen Wednesday
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech (illness) is throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday and will move to two innings of live batting practice on Friday. Kopech had COVID-19 this winter and is a bit behind the other pitchers in camp, but he still has a chance to be ready by Opening Day. The White Sox will surely take it easy on the 25-year-old right-hander, though, after he missed all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons and only tossed 69 1/3 innings last year while working mostly out of the bullpen. Kopech has a ton of long-term upside, but he'll almost certainly be on a strict innings cap in 2022, limiting his fantasy ceiling in redraft leagues.

Thu Mar 17 202214:55Michael Kopech Had COVID Last Month
Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Michael Kopech said he had COVID-19 in the last week in February, but he feels that he'll be ready for Opening Day and to pitch every five days once the season begins. The White Sox said a few days ago that Kopech is a bit behind the other starting candidate this spring because of an undisclosed illness, and we now know that it was COVID-19. The 25-year-old right-hander also missed all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons and worked primarily out of the bullpen last year, so the White Sox won't be rushing Kopech into a very big workload this year. The fact that Kopech will likely be on a strict pitch count an a per-start basis will severely cap his fantasy upside.

Mon Mar 14 202214:44Michael Kopech Delayed Due To Illness
Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said starting pitcher Michael Kopech's build-up was delayed by an illness this offseason. However, the team is still treating him as a starter and expect him to be ready for Opening Day. The 25-year-old right-hander missed all of the 2019 and 2020 seasons and pitched in only 69 1/3 regular season innings last year, so the White Sox will be extremely cautious with him this year. If fully healthy, Kopech should serve as a back-end starter for the White Sox, but he may not be able to go deep into games all season long, which will obviously limit his fantasy upside in 2022. In his 44 outings (four starts) for the Pale Hose last year, Kopech had a 3.50 ERA and 1.12 WHIP while striking out 103 and walking 24.

Thu Sep 23 202113:49Michael Kopech To Start Game 2 Of Thursday's Doubleheader
Chicago White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech will start Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians on Thursday. This will be his first start since May 14, when he pitched four innings against the Kansas City Royals and allowed one earned run while striking out five. The 25-year-old right-hander has struggled a bit out of the bullpen this month. He's allowed eight hits, two walks and five earned runs over 8.1 innings. He has, however, recorded a whopping 16 strikeouts over those 8.1 innings. Kopech likely won't go too deep into his start on Thursday, but if fantasy managers need a boost in strikeouts, he's someone who could help out today.

Fri Aug 20 202109:03Michael Kopech Suffers Loss In Relief
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Michael Kopech struggled in an inning of relief and picked up the loss on Thursday versus the Oakland Athletics. Kopech was called upon for the top of the seventh inning in a tie game, but allowed two hits, two runs and struck out one during his lone inning of work. Kopech was the victim of Matt Olson's 31st home run and that gave the Athletics a two-run lead at the time. Kopech was lights out in the first half of the season, but struggled in July with a 4.91 ERA. Despite his rough month of July, Kopech had thrown four consecutive outings entering Thursday. Kopech has mostly worked out of the bullpen this season and is 3-2 with a 2.74 ERA. Even with the rough outing on Thursday, Kopech is valuable in leagues that count ratios and he now has 68 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings with a 1.07 WHIP.

Sat Jul 31 202122:49Michael Kopech Has Rough Appearance
Chicago White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech got lit up on Saturday for his first loss of the season versus the Cleveland Indians. Kopech went one inning and allowed five hits, five runs, one walk and recorded one strikeout. Kopech has been dominating this year, mostly as a reliever, but just didn't have it this evening. Managers should chalk this up as just a bad outing for Kopech and he is now 3-1 with a 2.55 to go along with 60 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings. Kopech remains a valuable option leagues due to his impressive ratios.
