Thu Aug 26 202117:51Rhys Hoskins Will Have Season-Ending Surgery
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (abdomen) will have season-ending surgery to "repair a tear in his lower abdomen" per a tweet from MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. The Phillies previously placed the first baseman on the 10-day injured list earlier on Thursday. Hoskins was in the midst of a quality season at the plate, hitting .247 with a .334 on-base percentage, 27 home runs, and three stolen bases in 443 plate appearances. Brad Miller is a candidate to see more playing time at first base for Joe Girardi's squad. The 31-year-old is hitting .218 with a .310 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and three stolen bases in 271 plate appearances this season. However, he's probably only worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues at the moment. If you're looking for a Hoskins replacement who isn't on the Phillies roster, Brandon Belt and Patrick Wisdom are two names to consider.

Thu Aug 26 202110:51Rhys Hoskins Launches 27th Homer On Wednesday Versus Tampa
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. It was Hoskins' third homer in two starts since returning from the injured list on Sunday. The big first baseman missed some time this season, but when he's healthy Hoskins has been his usual, dependable self in the power department. Hoskins has 27 homers and 71 RBI on the season thanks to a strong .283 ISO and .530 slugging percentage. He's got good matchups on the horizon as the Diamondbacks will head to Philly for a four-game set over the weekend.

Mon Aug 23 202100:22Rhys Hoskins Homers Twice In Return
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins got off to a smashing start in his return from the injured list Sunday, smacking two home runs and also drawing a walk in four plate appearances. Both home runs were solo shots, and they bring his total on the season to 26. Hoskins' slash line of .247/.336/.526 falls neatly in line with his career numbers, meaning his return should be a big boost to the playoff chances of both fantasy managers and the Phillies.

Tue Aug 17 202122:41Rhys Hoskins Not Ready To Return Yet
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) did some baseball activities on Tuesday, but is still not ready to return, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. He has been on the injured list since August 7 after he strained his groin. Hoskins was expected to be activated on Tuesday, but clearly, that was not the case. He was one of the Phillies best hitters before his injury, hitting .244 with 24 HRs, 68 RBI, 61 runs, and a .509 slugging in 104 games. It shouldn't be much longer until Hoskins is back in action, but fantasy managers will have to remain patient.

Thu Aug 12 202113:47Rhys Hoskins Expected Back On Tuesday In Arizona
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) is expected to come off the injured list on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, according to Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Hoskins has been on the IL since August 7 with a groin strain. The big first baseman was having another strong season with 24 homers, a .509 slugging percentage, and a 123 wRC+. Tue Aug 10 202119:16Rhys Hoskins Placed On IL With Groin Strain
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain on Tuesday, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. The move was made retroactive to Aug. 7, which means he'll be eligible to come off the injured list next Tuesday. Hoskins has been out since Thursday, after slashing .244/.332/.509 with 24 homers, three steals, 68 RBI and 61 runs scored over 104 games so far this year. To replace him on the roster, the Phillies recalled outfielder Mickey Moniak from Triple-A. Brad Miller is starting at first base on Tuesday night, and he'll figure to get a bulk of playing time there while Hoskins is out.

Sat Aug 7 202108:23Rhys Hoskins Managing Groin Injury
Philadelphia Phillies' first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) is uncertain for Saturday's game against the New York Mets due to a groin injury. He missed Friday's game, and his availability for Saturday's contest is in question. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day but could be available off the bench on Saturday. Hoskins is slashing .244/.332/.509 with 24 home runs, 68 RBI, 61 runs scored, and three stolen bases over 434 plate appearances in 2021. Fantasy managers will most likely be without the Phillies' first baseman for another day. Brad Miller will continue to handle first base duties while Hoskins is sidelined. Miller can be used as an option in NL-Only league formats after hitting .226 with 10 homers and 30 RBI over 199 at-bats in 2021.

Thu Aug 5 202110:41Rhys Hoskins Swats Homer, Double To Power Phils Over Nats
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and an RBI double to help the Phillies beat the Nationals on Wednesday. He won't hit for a high average as he's batting just .239 even after this game, but Hoskins has a strong .329 on-base percentage thanks to a 10.7% walk rate. He hits for power as well as he's slugging .505 with 24 homers on the season. Fantasy managers will need to live with the bad batting average, it's who Hoskins is as a hitter, but his power upside makes him a must-start 1B in fantasy, particularly in leagues that reward OBP.

Tue Aug 3 202117:24Rhys Hoskins Back In The Lineup On Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Patrick Corbin and the Washington Nationals. Hoskins was left out of the starting lineup for each of the past four games due to a left groin injury. However, he did pinch-hit in Monday's game, going 0-for-1 with a strikeout, so it's not a big surprise to see him back in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Hoskins was on a bit of a roll before the injury. He recorded at least one hit in each of his last six games in July, tallying two home runs and three doubles over that six-game stretch. We'll see if he can pick up where he left off on Tuesday.

Brad Miller will continue filling in at first base for Hoskins and is batting fifth against Washington right-hander Josiah Gray. Over his last seven games for the Phillies, Miller has hit .190/.261/.333 with one home run and five RBI on four hits.

Sun Aug 1 202111:13Rhys Hoskins Remains Out On Sunday
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has not played since July 29 due to a tweaked groin. It sounds like he'll avoid a trip to the injured list, but will remain out of the lineup for a few days. In the meantime, Brad Miller will cover first base and bat fifth versus righty Mitch Keller. Miller might be a low-end DFS option, but usually doesn't offer a lot of upside with the bat.

Sat Jul 31 202118:27Rhys Hoskins Remains Out On Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) remains out of the starting lineup on Saturday. He is being considered day-to-day with a groin issue that forced his early exit on Thursday and kept him out of the lineup on Friday. From all reports it sounds like it's not believed to be a serious issue, and he should be able to return to action within the next few days. With Hoskins out, Brad Miller is getting the start at first base, and he will bat fifth in the lineup against Pittsburgh.

Fri Jul 30 202122:15Rhys Hoskins Battling A Groin Issue
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (groin) is classified as day-to-day, according to manager Joe Girardi. Hoskins left Thursday's matchup against the Nationals because of a groin ailment and was subsequently held out of Friday's series opener against the Pirates. While it wouldn't be a surprise if he weren't available throughout the weekend, he still has a chance to make it back relatively soon. In the meantime, Brad Miller will likely cover the bag until Hoskins is back in the mix.

Thu Jul 29 202118:24Rhys Hoskins Exits Early On Thursday
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (undisclosed) was removed early during Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals. Hoskins left early during the second game of the doubleheader with an apparent injury. J.T. Realmuto took over at first base for the rest of the game. The Phillies should have more news on Hoskins shortly after the contest. They cannot afford to lose his power bat in their lineup right now. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for more information.
