Sat May 6 202314:03Jeff McNeil Taking A Seat On Saturday
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil is getting the day off on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. McNeil is just getting a maintenance day but should be available as a pinch hitter if needed. He's slashing a solid .278/.390/.400 with two home runs, 10 RBI, and a couple of stolen bases over 115 at-bats so far this season. Eduardo Escobar is starting at second base and batting eighth against Austin Gomber and the Rockies.

Fri Jan 27 202318:06Jeff McNeil, Mets Agree On Four-Year Extension
The New York Mets and National League batting champion Jeff McNeil agreed to a four-year, $50 million contract extension on Friday, according to sources familiar with the deal. The contract includes a fifth-year team option that could take the total value of the deal to $63.75 million. Not only can McNeil hit, but he can also play second base, third base and the outfield, giving the Mets positional flexibility. The 30-year-old slashed .326/.382/.454 with an .836 OPS, nine home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and four stolen bases in a career-high 589 plate appearances and 148 games to earn his second career All-Star bid in 2022. McNeil won't supply fantasy managers with much power -- only one season with 20-plus homers -- but he's an excellent source of average, contact and on-base percentage in one of the best lineups in baseball.

Wed Oct 5 202215:21Jeff McNeil Retreats To The Bench Wednesday
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday for the regular season finale against the Washington Nationals. The Mets have nothing to play for in Game 162 on Wednesday after the Atlanta Braves clinched the National League East title on Tuesday, so the Mets will rest the likely NL batting champ before their wild-card series begins on Friday against the San Diego Padres. McNeil will finish the 2022 regular season with a .326/.382/.454 slash line with an .836 OPS, nine home runs, 62 RBI, 73 runs scored and four stolen bases in 147 games in his second career All-Star season. Tyler Naquin is starting in right field and hitting leadoff, while Luis Guillorme is at the keystone and batting sixth against Nationals right-hander Erick Fedde in the regular season finale.

Sat Aug 13 202217:53Jeff McNeil Returns To Action Saturday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is back in the lineup on Saturday after exiting Friday's game with a right thumb laceration. He'll bat eighth against the Philadelphia Phillies. McNeil has put together a strong line in his age-30 season, slashing .306/.360/.446 with seven homers, 46 RBI, 24 walks, and 49 strikeouts. Most of his production has come against righties, so he should fare well against Aaron Nola on Saturday. McNeil deserves to be rostered in most fantasy leagues down the stretch.

Fri Aug 12 202221:12Jeff McNeil Leaves Friday With Cut Hand
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil left Friday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with a laceration on his right thumb. McNeil went 0-for-1 in the game before departing, getting replaced in the lineup by Tyler Naquin. The veteran second baseman may miss a game or so with the cut but this does not sound like a serious injury. McNeil is hitting .306 with seven homers, 48 runs, 46 RBI, and two steals in 2022.

Mon Aug 1 202216:16Jeff McNeil Enjoys Three-Hit Game
New York Mets utility man Jeff McNeil had a strong game Sunday, along with many of his teammates, going 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in a 9-3 victory over the Miami Marlins. McNeil only had three multi-hit games in July, but two of them came in his last two days. With his fifth homer of the season in the previous game, it appears McNeil may be ready to emerge from his July swoon. McNeil has a .771 OPS with 41 runs scored, 38 RBI, and two steals this year in 333 plate appearances.

Thu Jul 14 202214:52Jeff McNeil Returning From Paternity List
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil will be activated from the paternity list before Thursday night's game against the Chicago Cubs on the road. McNeil missed the last three games while on the paternity list, but he'll be back in the Mets' starting lineup on Thursday against Cubs right-hander Keegan Thompson. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter doesn't provide much power, but he's hitting a strong .311/.371/.436 on the year with an .807 OPS, four home runs, 35 RBI, 38 runs scored and two stolen bases in 264 at-bats. McNeil will certainly boost your team's batting average and on-base percentage as a high-contact hitter.

Sat Jul 9 202218:38Jeff McNeil To Go On Paternity Leave Monday
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil will go on paternity leave after this weekend's series against the Miami Marlins. It is unfortunate timing for the Mets, who travel to Atlanta for an important 3 game set with the Braves starting Monday. For fantasy managers, it at least opens up the opportunity to get someone else into your lineup next week without missing any games. McNeil has been in fine form this season, with a .317/.378/.444 slash line to go along with four homers and two steals. His power numbers are lacking, but at this point, that's what is expected.

Tue Jun 28 202215:21Jeff McNeil Returns Against Astros
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (hamstring) is back at second base and is batting eighth on Tuesday against Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. McNeil has been out over a week with right hamstring tightness, but he'll be back in there on Tuesday for fantasy managers. Before his injury, the 30-year-old was carrying an eight-game hitting streak, so hopefully he can keep it going now that he's back. Overall, he's hitting .327/.386/.465 with an .850 OPS, four home runs, 33 RBI, 33 runs scored and two stolen bases in 226 at-bats for the Mets. McNeil doesn't have much power to speak of, but he'll certainly help in the batting average and on-base percentage departments.

Sat Jun 25 202213:31Jeff McNeil To Miss His Fourth Straight Game Saturday
New York Mets second baseman/outfielder Jeff McNeil (hamstring) will remain on the bench for Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. Luis Guillorme will be manning the keystone for the contest. This will be McNeil's fourth straight missed game due to right hamstring tightness. He suffered the injury during this past Monday's game. McNeil is still being considered day-to-day for now and there hasn't been any mention of a potential stint on the injured list. The 30-year-old is in the midst of a productive season. Over 65 games, he's slashed .327/.386/.465 with four home runs, 33 RBI and 33 runs.

Fri Jun 24 202216:00Jeff McNeil Still Out Against Marlins
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins. McNeil will miss his third straight game, but hopefully he can return for fantasy managers either Saturday or Sunday. Luis Guillorme is back at the keystone and is batting fifth, while Dominic Smith will get another start as the designated hitter and bat eighth against Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. Guillorme has very little power to speak of and has a difficult matchup, but he's the better DFS choice over Smith, who is still searching for his first home run of the season and is hitting .198 (18-for-91) with 26 strikeouts in 41 games for the Mets this year.

Sun Jun 5 202214:01Jeff McNeil Sitting Out On Sunday
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil is sitting out on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is just a routine day of the 30-year-old second baseman. Luis Guillorme is starting at second base and batting eighth against Julio Urias. After a disappointing 2021 season, McNeil has returned to form in 2022. He's slashing .311/.365/.443 with three home runs, 26 RBI, and two stolen bases over 183 at-bats.

Mon May 30 202218:32Jeff McNeil Back, Brandon Nimmo Out Monday
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil (leg) is back in the starting lineup as the designated hitter and is batting fifth on Monday against Washington Nationals right-hander Erick Fedde. Meanwhile, outfielder Brandon Nimmo (wrist) will miss his third straight game. McNeil had some wear and tear with his legs and didn't play on Sunday, but he'll be back in there to begin a series with the Nats. The 30-year-old doesn't have a ton of power but is hitting .317 with a .372 on-base percentage and two stolen bases in 164 at-bats. Mark Canha is playing center field and batting seventh, while Nick Plummer gets the nod in left field while hitting eight against Fedde. Nimmo, who is hitting .293/.386/.452 with three homers and 17 RBI, should be considered day-to-day.

Fri May 27 202216:01Jeff McNeil Back In Lineup Friday
New York Mets infielder Jeff McNeil (knee) is back at second base and is hitting seventh on Friday against Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Bailey Falter. McNeil left Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants early with a left knee contusion after making a sliding catch in left field. The injury obviously wasn't too serious, though, as the 30-year-old is back in the lineup against the division-rival Phillies. McNeil should be returned to starting lineups in season-long leagues, as he's hitting a solid .321/.374/.455 with an .829 OPS, two home runs, 23 RBI, 23 runs scored and two stolen bases in 44 games played.

Wed May 25 202218:16Jeff McNeil Avoids Serious Injury
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (knee) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He crashed into the wall while trying to catch a foul ball during the fourth inning. He was able to get up on his own, so that's always a good sign. The organization is calling the injury a left knee contusion. He is considered day-to-day, so hopefully he'll be back in the lineup on Friday.

Tue May 24 202213:18Jeff McNeil Homers And Steals A Base
New York Mets utility man Jeff McNeil had another big game Monday night against the San Francisco Giants, going 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, a stolen base, three runs scored, and two RBI. McNeil has just two homers and two steals on the season, but he is one of the premier batting average options available, especially in this depressed offensive environment. His .311/.364/.444 slash line, to go with 21 runs scored and 23 RBI, has made him a major bargain relative to draft day value.

Fri Oct 1 202114:09Jeff McNeil Scores Twice, Steals A Base
New York Mets utility man Jeff McNeil stole his third base of the season against the Miami Marlins Thursday while going 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored. McNeil has been one of a number of Mets to disappoint this season, totaling a .681 OPS with seven homers, three steals, 48 runs scored, and 35 RBI in 382 at-bats on the year. He should come considerably cheaper in 2022 fantasy drafts than in previous go-rounds.

Mon Sep 20 202109:20Jeff McNeil With Rare Homer In Sunday Win
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in the Mets 3-2 win over the Phillies on Sunday evening. McNeil had not homered in his last 43 games prior to Sunday's contest. Though he had shown signs of breaking out during the course of the 2021 season, McNeil never really found any level of consistency with his bat. 2021 turned out to be a bust season for the 29-year old. Coming into the season, it was thought McNeil was a safe bet for a .310 batting average, a .380 on-base percentage, 10-to-15 HR, and 70-to-80 RBI. Instead, managers who expended top-100 draft capital on him have gotten a .252/.318/.364 slash line with just seven home runs and 34 RBI over 111 games. While McNeil holds little fantasy relevance in redraft formats at this point, fantasy managers in dynasty formats should remain patient. As reported previously, there were no signs that McNeil would regress in 2021 other than, perhaps, lower HR totals. As such, fantasy managers in dynasty formats should not be too quick to sell low on McNeil in case an underlying/ undisclosed injury has been the root of his issues in 2021.

Wed Sep 8 202110:02Struggles Continue For Jeff McNeil
New York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil went 1-for-5 with a run scored in the Mets 9-4 win over the Marlins on Tuesday. McNeil also left three runners on base as his season-long struggles continued. Though McNeil has, at times, shown signs of breaking out during the course of the 2021 season, he has yet to find any consistency at the plate. Now heading into mid-September, it's safe to say McNeil has been a huge bust given his pre-season ADP of 98. Coming into 2021, it was expected that McNeil had a high floor and was a safe bet for a .310 batting average, a .380 on-base percentage, 10-to-15 HR, and 70-to-80 RBI. He has greatly underachieved based on those pre-season expectations. Over 100 games and 328 at-bats, McNeil is hitting just .247/.317/.351 with six home runs, 32 RBI, 16 doubles, and 39 runs scored. Over the last month (30 games), McNeil has been even worse, slashing .182/.226/.232 with no home runs and just seven RBI over 99 AB. Fantasy managers in redraft formats can safely drop McNeil at this point. Those fantasy managers in dynasty formats should hold onto McNeil and chalk 2021 up to a down year/aberration based on his consistent performances from 2018-2020. There were no signs that McNeil would regress to this point beyond, perhaps, lower HR totals heading into 2021. As such, fantasy managers in dynasty formats should remain patient and not be too quick to sell low in case an underlying/ undisclosed injury has been the cause of McNeil's issues in 2021.

Sun Aug 22 202120:56Jeff McNeil Could See Playing Time In Left Field
New York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the Mets 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Following the game, manager Luis Rojas indicated that once Francisco Lindor (oblique) returns from the injured list within the next few days, McNeil will see more time in left field. Rojas told reporters that the preference is to play Javier Baez at second base, J.D. Davis at third base, Lindor at shortstop, and McNeil in left field. This could potentially place McNeil in a dreaded timeshare with first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith in left field if Smith is not benched entirely. McNeil has had a rough campaign in 2021 batting just .247/.323/.362 with six home runs and 30 RBI over 86 games. Over his last seven games, McNeil has gone just 4-for-29 (.138) with one RBI, and an on-base percentage of .194. Fantasy managers should have McNeil on their benches until such time that he can put together a few games and show any signs of consistent production at the plate. Of course, if McNeil loses playing time once Lindor returns from the IL, managers in redraft formats should move on from the underperforming McNeil.
