Tue Dec 6 202215:44Evan Longoria Talking To Five TeamsEvan Longoria3BGiantsFree Agent
Veteran free-agent corner infielder Evan Longoria is talking to five teams on the free-agent market and is looking to play for a contender. Longoria became a free agent after the 2022 season when the San Francisco Giants declined his $13 million club option for 2023. The 37-year-old is no longer in his prime and played fewer than 90 games in each of the last two years in San Francisco. He mostly dealt with a thumb injury this season and finished with a .244/.315/.451 slash line with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances and 89 games. The Giants could bring him back on a cheaper deal. At this point in his career, Longoria is better suited to be a full-time designated hitter.

Tue Dec 6 202215:35Red Sox Remain Engaged On Xander BogaertsXander BogaertsSSRed SoxFree Agent
Agent Scott Boras said that the Boston Red Sox remain engaged on trying to re-sign shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Nobody is really expecting the Red Sox and Bogaerts to reunite, especially after the Philadelphia Phillies gave Trea Turner an 11-year, $300 million deal on Monday at the first day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego. Bogaerts has a very robust market as one of the top shortstops available on the open market, and teams like the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres have been on his trail. As expected, the 30-year-old declined his $20 million option for the 2023 season. If Boston doesn't somehow bring Bogaerts back, Trevor Story is expected to move to the 6 next year.

Tue Dec 6 202215:29Padres Sign David Dahl To Minor-League DealDavid DahlLFRangersFree Agent
The San Diego Padres signed free-agent outfielder David Dahl to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. Dahl spent the 2022 season toiling in the minor leagues for the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals, where he hit a combined .279/.345/.442 with 10 home runs, 51 RBI, 54 runs scored and four stolen bases in 359 plate appearances over 85 games for Triple-A Nashville and Triple-A Rochester. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter opted out of his contract with the Nationals in August to become a free agent. Dahl was an All-Star with the Colorado Rockies in his third MLB season in 2019, but injuries have defined his career to this point and he has played in 100 games at the MLB level just once in five seasons.

Tue Dec 6 202215:23Pirates Sign Jarlin GarciaJarlín GarcíaRPGiantsFree Agent
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed left-hander Jarlin Garcia on Tuesday, pending a physical, according to a source. The deal is reportedly for one year and $2.5 million, and the Pirates will hold a $3.25 million option for the 2024 season, according to The Athletic's Rob Biertempfel. Garcia had a 3.74 ERA (4.27 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP, one save and 56 strikeouts in 65 innings over 58 relief appearances for the San Francisco Giants in 2022. He was designated for assignment last month and become a free agent when he cleared waivers. The 29-year-old won't be in the saves picture in Pittsburgh, so he won't have any fantasy relevance entering 2023.

Tue Dec 6 202213:38Dylan Moore To Have Core-Muscle SurgeryDylan Moore2B/3B/LFMarinersFree Agent
Seattle Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto confirmed on Tuesday that utility player Dylan Moore (core) will have surgery for a core injury that has bothered him since the end of last season. Moore is in Philadelphia to have the surgery in the coming days, and it will come with a six- to eight-week recovery timetable. Barring any setbacks after his procedure, the 30-year-old should be good to go for spring training next year. He'll continue to serve in a utility platoon role while almost exclusively playing against left-handed pitching. Moore is useful for his speed (21 steals in each of the last two years) in deeper leagues. He slashed .224/.368/.385 with six homers, 24 RBI and 41 runs in 104 games in 2022.

Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Joe Jimenez (back) is throwing up to 90 feet without symptoms while working on lumbar and core flexibility and strength, according to the team. He is expected to be ready for spring training next year. Jimenez ended the 2022 season on the injured list due to a right lumbar spine strain, but he should be good to go for the start of the 2023 season. The 27-year-old right-hander had a 3.49 ERA (2.00 FIP), a 1.09 WHIP, two saves and 77 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings pitched over 62 relief appearances.

Tue Dec 6 202213:26Alex Faedo Expected To Be Ready For Spring TrainingAlex FaedoSPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (hip) is throwing from up to 90 feet without symptoms while working on strength, balance and range of motion in his surgically repaired right hip, according to the team. Faedo is expected to be ready for spring training next year. The 27-year-old had surgery on his right hip in late July. He made 12 starts in his rookie season in 2022, going 1-5 with a 5.53 ERA (4.62 FIP), a 1.64 WHIP, 44 strikeouts and 25 walks in 53 2/3 innings pitched. The Tigers will surely take it easy on Faedo coming off his hip surgery, but with Tarik Skubal (arm) unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Faedo will be asked to pick up the slack to begin the year if he's fully healthy.

Tue Dec 6 202213:21Tarik Skubal Progressing In His RecoveryTarik SkubalSPTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal (arm) had flexor tendon surgery on Aug. 17 and continues to progress through the forearm strengthening phase of his rehab program, according to the team. The team hasn't discussed a timetable for Skubal, but a typical return for a pitcher is six to nine months, depending on the extent of the surgery. "I'm going to try to keep it day-by-day," Skubal said in October. "It's just easier that way. It's better for me mentally, too, than to get to a point and be like, 'Well, I'm not back where I'm supposed to be.'" Even if Skubal doesn't have any setbacks this offseason, there's a good chance he won't be ready to begin the 2023 season in Detroit's starting rotation.

Tue Dec 6 202213:17Jake Rogers Expected To Be Ready For Spring TrainingJake RogersCTigersFree Agent
Detroit Tigers catcher Jake Rogers (elbow) has started a normal offseason conditioning program and is throwing up to 105 feet without symptoms, according to the team. Rogers is expected to be ready for spring training next year. He was swinging a bate late last season, but he wasn't ready for full activity. The 27-year-old resumed throwing in early November after having Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. Rogers is regarded as a defense-first catcher and won't have much appeal in fantasy leagues next year, even if he's fully healthy. Eric Haase is the team's top catcher on the depth chart for the time being.

Sean Reid-FoleySPMetsFree Agent
The New York Mets re-signed right-handed relievers Tommy Hunter and Sean Reid-Foley to minor-league deals on Tuesday. Both pitchers have been with the team the last two seasons, but they both missed significant time due to injuries. Hunter, 36, threw only 22 1/3 innings in 2022, but he had a solid 2.42 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 18 relief appearances. Reid-Foley, 27, allowed six earned runs on seven hits while walking seven and striking out eight in just 10 relief innings for the Mets last season. In five big-league seasons, he has a 4.66 ERA (4.93 FIP), a 1.56 WHIP and 110 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings pitched. Hunter and Reid-Foley will give the Mets relief depth yet again in 2023.

The Baltimore Orioles agreed to a minor-league deal with free-agent outfielder Nomar Mazara on Tuesday. The San Diego Padres designated Mazara for assignment in late August and he cleared waivers. Mazara will be hoping to win a roster spot out of spring training with the Orioles heading into the 2023 season.

Tue Dec 6 202201:38Twins Are All In On Re-Signing Carlos CorreaCarlos CorreaSSAstrosFree Agent
The Minnesota Twins are all in on trying to re-sign shortstop Carlos Correa and have already made multiple contract offers to him. Correa opted out of his $35.1 million option for the 2023 season, but they're trying to bring him back on varying contract offers that have ranged from six to 10 years in length. It would probably be a surprise if he returned, with the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and others interested in his services. The New York Post's Jon Heyman also notes that the Twins' involvement with free-agent left-hander Carlos Rodon likely will only become a reality if Correa doesn't re-sign in Minnesota. The 28-year-old slashed a strong .291/.366/.467 with an .834 OPS, 22 home runs, 64 RBI and 70 runs scored in 522 at-bats in what could be his only season with the Twins.

Tue Dec 6 202201:31Yankees Expected To Meet With Brandon NimmoBrandon NimmoCF/LFMetsFree Agent
The New York Yankees are expected to meet with free-agent outfielder Brandon Nimmo at the Winter Meetings this week in San Diego. The Yankees are looking for two outfielders, so they could sign both Nimmo and Aaron Judge, although that would also bloat their budget considerably. If the Yankees sign both Nimmo and Judge, they'd have arguably the best defensive outfielder in baseball along with Harrison Bader. New York has also discussed Andrew Benintendi and Japanese star Masataka Yoshida. The San Francisco Giants, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are also in the running to sign the on-base machine this offseason. Nimmo would be particularly attractive in fantasy atop the Yankees powerful offense, especially if they re-sign Judge, too.

Tue Dec 6 202201:13Johan Camargo Still A Free AgentJohan Camargo2B/3BBravesFree Agent
Many teams are checking in on free-agent infielder Johan Camargo, who is currently playing in the Dominican Republic for Las Aguilas. Camargo was believed to have signed a minor-league deal with the Minnesota Twins last week, but that didn't end up happening and he's still available. The 28-year-old is looking for a roster spot on a major-league roster or will take an opportunity in Asia. The switch-hitting utility man played in 52 games for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, hitting .237/.297/.316 with three home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs scored in 166 plate appearances. If he returns to the MLB next year, he'll most likely serve as a bench bat with limited offensive upside in fantasy. Camargo has a career .255/.313/.410 slash line with a .723 OPS in 416 games over six seasons.

Tue Dec 6 202200:46Cubs Checking In On Sean MurphySean MurphyCAthleticsFree Agent
The Chicago Cubs are one of the teams who have talked to the Oakland Athletics about trading for catcher Sean Murphy, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Monday. The 28-year-old had a strong season both behind the plate and with the bat, slashing .250/.332/.426 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI. The Cubs are currently without a starting backstop, and while they have spent the last seven seasons with Willson Contreras filling that role, the potential availability of Murphy as well as the Blue Jay's Danny Jansen appear to be appealing options for the Cubs to investigate.

Tue Dec 6 202200:39Dodgers Officially Re-Sign Clayton Kershaw MondayClayton KershawSPDodgersFree Agent
The Los Angeles Dodgers and starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw agreed to a one-year, $20 million dollar contract on Monday, per the team's Twitter account. The future Hall of Famer has spent all 15 seasons of his career with the Dodgers and will stick with them for his age-35 season. Kershaw was sharp as always when he did pitch in 2022, going 12-3 with a 2.28 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 27.8% strikeout rate in 22 starts and 126 1/3 innings pitched. However, injuries have prevented him from making at least 30 starts since 2015, which has put a relative damper on his overall fantasy value. Kershaw remains one of baseball's top starters on a start-by-start basis, which means he still offers high fantasy value even if he only makes 20-25 starts.
