(AP) — Los Angeles Angels reliever Keynan Middleton will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, putting an early end to his second big-league season.Middleton confirmed his decision Thursday night.Middleton left a game against Minnesota last Sunday in the middle of an at-bat after 12 pitches. He had appeared in three games in four days after a stint on the disabled list with elbow inflammation.Middleton was the Angels' closer in April, recording six saves. He compiled a 2.04 ERA while allowing only four runs in 16 appearances.Instead, Middleton will become the fifth pitcher on the Angels' current staff to undergo elbow ligament replacement surgery. Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Nick Tropeano will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, general manager Billy Eppler announced Wednesday.Last month, Tropeano was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. After getting a second opinion from Dr. David Altchek, it was determined he needed the extensive elbow surgery.Not only will Tropeano miss the rest of this season, but he likely will miss a good portion of the 2017 season as well.Tropeano had returned to the Angels rotation after Andrew Heaney was sidelined with an elbow injury. Heaney wound up undergoing Tommy John surgery on July 2.Tropeano, 25, has a 3-2 record and a 3.56 ERA this season in 13 starts this year.Tyler Skaggs took Tropeano's spot in the rotation and has yet to yield a run in two starts over 12 1/3 innings. Skaggs returned to action July 26 after a nearly two-year absence following his own Tommy John surgery in August 2014.In three major league seasons with the Houston Astros (2014) and the Angels (2015 and '16), Tropeano is 7-7 with a 3.81 ERA in 25 games, including 24 starts.
