Tue Jul 30 201317:17Report: Cardinals trade Rzepczynski to Tribe
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals have traded Marc Rzepczynski to Cleveland.
St. Louis will get a low-level minor leaguer in return. "Scrabble" has posted a rough 7.84 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in 10 1/3 innings this year in the majors and seems doubtful to suddenly pull it together for the Tribe.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak indicated Monday that Marc Rzepczynski's demotion wasn't just performance-based.
Mo said that he "wasn't really seeing that drive this year" from Rzepczynski. "I noticed it early in spring, and it sort of just carried over. . You're coming in with opportunities to do things, and it just wasn't getting done." The left-hander has posted a 4.77 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 54 2/3 innings since the start of the 2012 season. He'll try to get refocused and improve his results at Triple-A Memphis for a while.

Sun Mar 10 201310:09Rzepczynski will be 'laid up for a while'
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny believes that Marc Rzepczynski (eye) will "be laid up for a while."
"I think he's going to be laid up for a while," said Matheny. "He can't get work if he's in bed, so it's definitely not helping him get ready for the season." Rzepczynski, who was injured Friday when a golf ball struck him near his left eye, will be re-evaluated Monday. A clearer timetable should be known at that time, but it sounds like a DL stint to start the season is possible.

Fri Jul 29 201112:32Rzepczynski could eventually start for Cards
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that part of the reason the Cardinals were "intrigued" about adding Marc Rzepczynski was because of his past as a starter.
Rzepczynski will pitch in the later innings for the Cards this season, as he made his debut Thursday with two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, striking out four. But, it sounds like his future could be as a member of the rotation. Rzepczynski had some success in spurts as a starter with the Jays and boasted a 3.44 ERA and 9.5 K/9 rate in the minors. He also would seem to fit in well with pitching coach Dave Duncan due to his groundball tendencies, as he holds a 1.9 GB/FB ratio in his career.

Wed Jul 27 201116:49Cards acquire LHP Rzepcynzki in Rasmus deal
Cardinals acquired LHP Marc Rzepcynzki from the Blue Jays in the Colby Rasmus deal.
Rzepcynzki has pitched exclusively in relief with the Blue Jays this season, posting a 2.97 ERA and 33/15 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings this season. The 25-year-old southpaw has held left-handed batters to a .247/.203/.450 batting line. With a career ground ball rate north of 50 percent, "Scrabble" could be an interesting name to watch in fantasy leagues if he eventually gets a shot as a starter in St. Louis.

Fri May 13 201111:15Rzepczynski making smooth transistion to pen
Blue Jays manager John Farrell thinks Marc Rzepczynski is "on a steady pace to become one of the better relievers in the game."
That declaration might be a bit over the top, but there's no denying that it's been a smooth transition to the bullpen for the left-hander, as he boasts a 2.60 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 18/5 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings. "His velocity has climbed and he's got multiple weapons to get both left and right hand hitters out," Farrell added. "We can put him in there against anyone." It sounds like Farrell thinks Rzepczynski could be an option for the ninth inning somewhere down the line, but for now he's clearly behind Frank Francisco and Jon Rauch in the pecking order.
