Thu Aug 13 201510:13Bird recalled by Yankees on Thursday
Bird was recalled by the Yankees on Thursday, the YES Network's Jack Curry reports.
He will back up Mark Teixeira at first base and Alex Rodriguez at DH, as the Yankees have a long stretch of games coming up and they want the flexibility to give the veterans a day off here and there. Bird, 22, has been mashing since he was promoted to Triple-A, slashing .301/.353/.500 with six home runs in 34 games. He has an advanced approach and should be a useful fantasy option in time, but for now he may need an injury to get enough at-bats to be relevant in shallower formats.

Bird, 22, homered twice and added a triple for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday night.
It's the third career multi-homer game as a professional for Bird, who earned a promotion to Triple-A in early July. He's actually raised his performance despite facing advanced pitching, as he's slashing an impressive .296/.356/.537 over his first 27 games. Bird looks like he'll be the Yankees' first baseman of the future, but expect him to spend the rest of 2015 in the minors while Mark Teixeira continues to stay healthy and hit effectively for the big club.

Bird has been promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Bird, who was selected 179th overall in the 2011 first-year player draft, has slowly but surely worked his way through the Yankees' farm system. In 49 games with Double-A Trenton this season, he's slashed .258/.358/.445 with six homers, 29 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 182 at-bats.

Bird (shoulder) was activated from Double-A Trenton's 7-day DL on Thursday.
Bird went 0-for-4 in his return to the Trenton lineup after missing just under a month due to the shoulder strain. The reigning Arizona Fall League MVP is slashing a pedestrian .227/.348/.412 over 26 games at Double-A, but it's quite possible the shoulder injury factored into his demise. Now that he's seemingly back to full health, the power production could begin to trend upward for Bird, who smacked 30 doubles and 14 homers last season in 441 plate appearances between Trenton and High-A Tampa.
Sat May 9 201510:39Bird placed on DL on Friday with right shoulder injury
Bird was placed on the DL on Friday with a right shoulder injury, the NY Post reports.
Bird had a strong spring training, but has struggled out of the gate with Double-A Trenton as he's hitting just .226. He's managed a solid 16:14 K:BB ratio, but he'll need to show he can hit for average more consistently before moving up.
