Thu Sep 16 202117:57Alex Wood Could Return To The Mound On Saturday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood has a "good chance" of being activated from the COVID-19 injured list and making his next start against the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, according to Giants manager Gabe Kapler. Wood has been out since late August after testing positive for COVID-19. He had bad symptoms from the virus, but he has since recovered and tested negative. The Braves are a tough matchup for Wood to return to, so fantasy managers may want to add him for future starts, but keep him on the bench on Saturday, assuming he's able to go. Over 23 starts on the year, Wood has gone 10-4 with a 4.08 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.

Fri Sep 10 202113:39Alex Wood Played Catch On Thursday
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood recently played catch while he's working his way back from COVID-19. He tested positive for coronavirus in late August, but is out of quarantine. Wood has missed more than two weeks of action, but it sounds like he'll pitch again this season. He'll need some time to build back up his energy and strength, but should remain an option for the Giants down the stretch. Fantasy managers should stash and hold Wood because it sounds like he'll return soon.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood (COVID-19) has been feeling better as of late after testing positive for COVID-19 and hitting the injured list on August 30. Wood's having a solid year for the surprising Giants, posting a 4.08 ERA with 135 K over 125.2 IP and 23 starts. It's unclear who they will use to fill his spot until he makes a return. Tue Aug 31 202100:39Alex Wood, Johnny Cueto To Injured List Monday
San Francisco Giants starting pitchers Alex Wood (COVID-19) and Johnny Cueto (undisclosed) were both placed on the injured list on Monday, per NBCSports.com's Alex Pavlovic. Wood was put on the IL on Monday after testing positive. Cueto was also feeling under the weather, but manager Gabe Kapler said he has been testing negative. Cueto was supposed to starts Monday's game against the Brewers but could be ready to pitch Tuesday if he feels better. Wood's timetable is not as certain. This is a blow to the Giants and to fantasy managers attempting to make the final push to the fantasy playoffs, but they should have time to pick up some streamers given that the news occurred early in the week. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for news updates regarding both players.

Fri Aug 27 202109:58Alex Wood Pitches Well Thursday, Takes No-Decision
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood took a no-decision in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Mets. Wood pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits (including a two-run home run) and two walks with five strikeouts. The 30-year-old has had a nice season overall, going 10-4 with a 4.08 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 25.3% strikeout rate. His next start will be a tough one at home against the Brewers. Wood's fantasy floor has been pretty consistent this season, but his ceiling has varied at times. As such, it may not be a bad idea to sit him for this upcoming matchup if fantasy managers are in a position to do so.

Sat Aug 21 202102:03Alex Wood Strikes Out Nine In Loss
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Wood struck out nine Oakland Athletics Friday night, but it wasn't enough to lead the team to victory. Wood allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings in a 4-1 loss. His record drops to 10-4 on the season. Despite a decent overall campaign, with a 4.11 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 130 strikeouts in 120 1/3 innings this season, Wood has just one quality start in his last seven turns through the rotation, and fantasy managers should be able to find more reliable options.
