RHP Randall Delgado signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday to avoid arbitration. Delgado was 8-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 64 games.

Delgado (8-4) required just one out to earn a victory Wednesday night, picking up the decision in a 3-1 victory over the Rockies.

Delgado induced a groundout from DJ LeMahieu to end the top of the sixth inning, and became the pitcher of record after a Jarrod Saltalamacchia RBI single in the bottom half of the frame. The former starter performed well in his first full season out of the bullpen, posting an impressive 9.00 K/9 and 79.1 percent Strand Rate. Delgado still has upside at 25 years old, making him an interesting closing candidate for the Diamondbacks in 2016.

Delgado picked up the win (7-4) with a scoreless inning Tuesday against Colorado. He struck out two.

Delgado is putting the finishing touches on a solid season out of the bullpen with a 3.26 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 69:32 K:BB ratio in 69 innings. While he certainly walks too many batters, he has provided good strikeout numbers and controlled the long ball well over the past two seasons. His days as a starter are almost certainly over, but he could be an effective back of the bullpen reliever and a candidate to close at some point.

Delgado will head back to the bullpen for now, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

This is hardly surprising, considering Delgado's struggles against Cincinnati on Saturday (four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings) and Jhoulys Chacin's success against the Cardinals on Monday. Delgado could still make a couple starts in September, but he won't be much more than a streaming option in deeper NL-only formats.

Delgado earned no-decision Saturday against the Reds, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks in just 2.1 innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander was expected to be limited in his pitch count after coming out of the bullpen for most of the year, but he left earlier than expected when he was pulled after allowing three runs in the third inning. Delgado is expected to return to the bullpen where his fantasy value will remain extremely limited.

Delgado will be held to around 75 pitches in Saturday's start, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports.

No surprise here, as Delgado had been pitching out of the bullpen previously. If he fares well he could stick in the rotation down the stretch, but his 4.23 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 257.1 career innings as a starter do not inspire confidence.

Delgado will start Saturday's game against the Reds.

Delgado will replace the injured Jeremy Hellickson in the rotation, at least for Saturday's contest. It's unclear what the club has in the works for the future, but it's possible Delgado could earn another start with a strong showing.

Delgado (ankle) was activated from the 15-day DL on Monday.

Following a scoreless appearance with Double-A Mobile on Saturday, just his second rehab appearance, Delgado was deemed ready to return to the active roster. The 25-year-old right-hander figures to return to a long role with Arizona, but the team may opt to deploy him in lower-leverage spots initially after the short rehab assignment.

Delgado (ankle) threw a scoreless inning Saturday during his rehab assignment with Double-A Mobile.

It's the second rehab appearance for Delgado, who previously tossed an inning with the Diamondbacks' rookie-level club. The team will likely have him stick in the minors for a few additional appearances before activating him from the DL.

Delgado (ankle) could return to the Diamondbacks as early as this weekend in Atlanta, Jack Magruder of The Sports XChange reports.

Delgado will pitch in an Arizona League contest Wednesday, and the team has indicated he could be activated sometime over the weekend, assuming his rehab outing goes well. Delgado has been on the DL since July 29, one day after twisting his ankle while warming up.

Delgado was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

Delgado twisted his ankle during warmups Tuesday, and the injury has been deemed bad enough to require a stint on the disabled list. He'll be eligible to return in mid-August, but the team recalled Addison Reed to replace him on the 25-man roster for the time being.

It's not clear whether Delgado's injury kept him unavailable out of the bullpen, or if it was just the case where manager Chip Hale deemed it unnecessary to use the right-hander. There should be more information within the next few days regarding the nature of Delgado's health.

Delgado picked up a long relief save Saturday, working three innings in a 7-3 win over the Brewers and giving up one run on three hits, striking out two.

It was Delgado's first save of the season, but given the circumstances he doesn't seem to be a threat to Brad Ziegler's spot as the Diamondbacks' current closer.

Delgado allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out three, in just 1.2 innings Sunday against the Phillies.

Delgado has now yielded runs in three of his past four appearances. With Addison Reed moved out of the closer role for the D-Backs, Delgado could have been a candidate to pick up some saves, but he needs to pitch better than he has recently. He has a 3.44 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 17 strikeouts in 18.1 innings on the season.

Delgado took the loss Saturday after giving up two runs on four hits, including a Justin Upton home run, in 2.2 innings, while striking out four.

This is the second time this season that Upton has victimized Delgado for a game-winning home run, but these were the first runs Delgado had allowed in five appearances. He has pitched well this year, posting a 2.35 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 14 strikeouts against four walks in 15.1 innings.

Delgado gave up the game winning home run to Justin Upton on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to San Diego. He pitched two innings giving up one earned run on a hit and a walk. He didn't strike anyone out.

Delgado appeared in a second consecutive game for the D-Backs and it appears they are fully committed to turning him into a reliever at the back end of the bullpen. This was the first run he has allowed in five appearances and he has four strike outs against one walk to go along with a 1.69 ERA and 0.75 WHIP. He is still just 25, so if he takes to relieving he could be an option to close at some point in the future.

Delgado pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out one, Tuesday in a 7-6 win over the Giants.

Delgado pitched the seventh inning for the DBacks and it will be interesting to see whether he is used as a long reliever or whether this is the beginning of a transition to a late inning role for him. He was considered a future starter when he was acquired from Atlanta, but has yet to prove he can handle that role. If he became a setup man, he has the kind of stuff that would play up in that role and potentially could lead him to close one day.

Delgado is among the 14 candidates battling for a spot in the back of the Diamondbacks rotation this spring, the Arizona Republic reports.

Out of minor league options, Delgado figures to be on the Opening Day roster barring a trade elsewhere, but his role is unclear. Most likely, he'll remain a reliever, after starting that transition last season and striking out 24.7% of the batters he faced in that role. In the bullpen, Delgado added a slider last season, and he'll need to use that third offering effectively in order to push his way into the final stages of the competition for a starting role.

Delgado won't make his start Wednesday and will pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports.

He has been replaced by Andrew Chafin, and while it's unlikely that many owners were counting on Delgado and his 5.48 ERA, this obviously significantly limits his value the rest of the way.

Delgado allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings in the Diamondbacks' 6-2 loss to the Giants on Thursday.

The start, his second since return to the rotation, was a step backward. After pitching a scoreless five innings last week, three runs in four innings doesn't look good. However, the 24-year-old will get another chance Wednesday against the Giants.
