Alvarez got off to a nice start with the Tigers last season but ultimately wound up with a 5.82 ERA over 38 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old posted a nice 2.80 ERA and 115/25 K/BB ratio over 128 2/3 Triple-A innings in 2013 and will likely begin at that level for the Halos.

Alvarez also issued a pair of walks and struck out three. Jose Alvarez pitched decently in a losing effort against the Royals in the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader, surrendering two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Alvarez walked three and struck out five in the spot start. All of the damage against him came on a two-run blast off the bat of Eric Hosmer in the third inning. Alvarez has posted a 1-3 record, 4.62 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in five starts for the Tigers this season. He'll head back to Triple-A Toledo where he'll continue to serve as an emergency option.

Alvarez yielded five runs -- four earned -- and has now allowed a total of 12 runs on 21 hits and seven walks over his first 19 2/3 major league innings for a 5.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. He'll likely be shipped back to Triple-A Toledo when Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) returns.
