Tue Mar 27 201817:30Rays' Faria sparkles against Tigers in final tuneup
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Sun Mar 25 201816:39Indians OF Michael Brantley starting season on disabled list
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The Cleveland Indians will start the season missing Michael Brantley.Still recovering from offseason surgery on his right ankle, Brantley is being placed on the disabled list as the team continues to take a cautious and deliberate approach with the two-time All-Star outfielder.Brantley, who has been limited to 101 games over the past two seasons because of injuries, only began playing in exhibition games a few days ago. While he has made steady improvement, Brantley, who homered in his first at-bat of the spring, is not quite ready to play in a major league game."He's doing great. I just think, after we put our heads together, it would be good for him," manager Terry Francona said Sunday. "He's just not quite ready maybe to carry enough of the load. There's no setback or anything like that."If anyone understands the road to recovery can be arduous, it's Brantley, who has battled injuries the last two years. He bounced back last season after playing in just 11 games... Thu Mar 22 201818:28Outfielder Rajai Davis makes Indians' opening-day roster
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Rajai Davis made it all the way back with the Cleveland Indians. Mike Napoli remains on the outside.Davis, who hit perhaps the most memorable home run in club history during the 2016 World Series, was told Thursday by manager Terry Francona that he will be on Cleveland's opening-day roster. The 37-year-old outfielder signed a minor league contract with the club last month. With Michael Brantley and Brandon Guyer still not at 100 percent while recovering from surgeries, the Indians needed depth. Davis has filled a need and the Indians are thrilled to have him around."Raj looks like Raj," Francona said. "He does an amazing job at age 37 getting to his full speed. ... We had to play him quite a bit because we wanted to get a good look at him. It's a pretty good test for a 37-year old in spring training. He bounced back really well. I think he has the freedom to be himself. That's a good thing. We all feel that he has the chance to help us win."Davis cemented his name... [More]
Sun Oct 4 201514:10Refsnyder out of lineup Sunday against Orioles
Refsnyder is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
Though Refsnyder got the call at second base for both games of Saturday's doubleheader, the Yankees will go back to a more normal lineup for the season finale, as Dustin Ackley takes over at second base. Refsnyder isn't expected to be included on the Yankees' postseason roster, but he could still compete for the everyday second base role in spring training.
Sun Oct 4 201509:56Refsnyder 3-8 over both games of Saturday's doubleheader
Refsnyder went 3-for-8 over both games of Saturday's doubleheader.
Refsnyder has started receiving regular playing time at the keystone, starting each of the past four games and five of the previous six. The 24-year-old has taken advantage, raising his average to .302, and figures to get the chance to start against lefties for as far as the Yankees advance in the postseason.
Thu Oct 1 201512:19Refsnyder 2-4 with one RBI in Wednesday's loss to Red Sox
Refsnyder went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox.
With Stephen Drew sidelined and likely out for the season, Refsnyder has entered somewhat of a platoon at the keystone with Dustin Ackley. The 24-year-old has taken advantage of the bump in playing time, hitting .368 since being called back up to the majors at the beginning of the month.

Refsnyder was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
Refsnyder had a short run as the Yankees' starting second baseman in July, but with Stephen Drew getting back on track a bit over the last few weeks, he is looking at a part-time role this time around. Expect the majority of his action to come against left-handed pitchers.

The Yankees have confirmed that Refsnyder will be recalled when rosters expand Tuesday, Ryan Hatch of The Star-Ledger reports.
The 24-year-old didn't make much of an impact in limited action with the Yankees earlier this year, nor has he impressed with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, hitting just .270/.359/.398 with a dozen steals in 116 games. He'll likely occupy a reserve infield role down the stretch.
Thu Aug 27 201514:02Refsnyder will be called up when rosters expand in September
Refsnyder will be called up when rosters expand in September, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports.
General manager Brian Cashman said that nobody will be called up to take another player's job, so fantasy owners should not get too excited here. Refsnyder figures to have a fair chance of earning the everyday job at the keystone in spring training next year, but he will serve as a depth piece for the Yankees in September.
Sun Jul 19 201511:56Rob Refsnyder: Optioned To Triple-A
Refsnyder was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre prior to Sunday's game against the Mariners, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
Carlos Beltran (oblique) was activated from teh DL in a corresponding move. It's a bit surprising that the Yankees have decided to pull the plug on Refsnyder already, as he started just four games at second base, going 2-for-12 with a home run. Rather than staying patient with Refsnyder and hoping that the high-contact skills he flashed in the minors would translate, the team will turn the keystone back over to Stephen Drew, who owns a sickly .182/.257/.372 line on the season. Unless Drew can suddenly morph back into a productive player, it may not be long before we see Refsnyder donning pinstripes again.
Sun Jul 19 201511:05Refsnyder out of lineup Sunday against Mariners
Refsnyder is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.
Refsnyder has come out of the All-Star break with an 0-for-5 showing at the plate, and while it's unlikely to cost him a regular role just yet, manager Joe Girardi will hit the reset button on the rookie. With Refsnyder receiving the day off to take a mental break, deposed starter Stephen Drew will temporarily step back in to assume second-base duties.
Sun Jul 19 201509:56Rob Refsnyder: Optioned To Triple-A
The New York Yankees optioned second baseman Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
The New York Yankees optioned second baseman Rob Refsnyder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. He was sent down to make room on the 25-man roster for outfielder Carlos Beltran, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday after recovering from an oblique injury. Refsnyder is considered one of the top position players in the Yankees' minor-league system, but he started just four games after being called up before the All-Star break. He went 2-for-12 with one home run, and rather than letting him continue to develop in the majors, the Yankees will revert back to Stephen Drew, who is hitting just .182 with 12 home runs and 25 RBI in 79 games this season. Refsnyder had been playing well in the minor leagues this season, hitting .290 with seven home runs, 37 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 81 games.
