PHOENIX (AP) — Cincinnati Reds All-Star second baseman Scooter Gennett injured his right leg while fielding a grounder against Milwaukee and was helped off the field.Gennett ranged to his left for a ball off the bat of Yasmani Grandal leading off the second inning Friday. Gennett slid to make the stop and threw to pitcher Robert Stephenson covering first for the out. Gennett went to his knees and was helped off by Reds head athletic trainer Steve Baumann and manager David Bell."I don't know exactly if it was when he fell or when he made the throw," Bell said. LHP Hector Santiago, who went on the disabled list July 7 with upper back pain, is probably finished for the season. Twins manager Paul Molitor said it is "more unlikely than likely" that Santiago would pitch again this year. He was 4-8 with a 5.63 ERA in 15 games, 14 of them starts, in 2017.

LHP Hector Santiago (upper thoracic back pain) doesn't appear close to returning to the Twins as rosters expand on Sept. 1. Santiago has been out since July 3 with the injury. Manager Paul Molitor said, "Command still showed there's some rust and the velocity is still no where we hoped." Reports had Santiago pitching in the mid-80s.
