Wed Dec 7 202220:06Six Teams Talking With Xander Bogaerts
Six teams still need a shortstop and are all talking to free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts at the Winter Meetings in San Diego this week. The Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs are among them. Bogaerts opted out of the final three years of his deal with Boston, but they've had some momentum in trying to re-sign him on a day in which they also added veteran closer Kenley Jansen and Japanese outfielder Masataka Yoshida. Keeping the 30-year-old All-Star shortstop would be a huge win for the Red Sox after the division-rival New York Yankees re-signed Aaron Judge to a nine-year, $360 million mega deal on Wednesday morning. Bogaerts was impressive again in 2022 and remains one of the best all-around shortstops in baseball after hitting .307 with 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs and eight steals in 150 games.

Wed Dec 7 202214:21Red Sox In Heavy Discussions With Xander Bogaerts
According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Wednesday morning, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly "in heavy discussions with" free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Heyman tweeted the following: "Red Sox are in heavy discussions with star shortstop Xander Bogaerts." Bogaerts hit .307 in 631 plate appearances for the Red Sox last season, adding a .377 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, and eight stolen bases in the process. Boston's current shortstop options on the team's 40-man roster include Trevor Story, who mostly played second base last season, Jeter Downs, Hoy Park, and Christian Arroyo.

Tue Dec 6 202215:35Red Sox Remain Engaged On Xander Bogaerts
Agent Scott Boras said that the Boston Red Sox remain engaged on trying to re-sign shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Nobody is really expecting the Red Sox and Bogaerts to reunite, especially after the Philadelphia Phillies gave Trea Turner an 11-year, $300 million deal on Monday at the first day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego. Bogaerts has a very robust market as one of the top shortstops available on the open market, and teams like the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres have been on his trail. As expected, the 30-year-old declined his $20 million option for the 2023 season. If Boston doesn't somehow bring Bogaerts back, Trevor Story is expected to move to the 6 next year.

Tue Dec 6 202200:03Diamondbacks A Serious Suitor For Xander Bogaerts
MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Monday that the Arizona Diamondbacks are among the "serious suitors" for free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts. The 30-year-old made his big-league debut while current Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen was a top executive with the Red Sox. Bogaerts remains one of the top available shortstops in the free-agent pool at the position, with Trea Turner signing a huge 11-year, $300 million contract Monday with the Phillies. While Bogaerts had a relatively down season in 2022, he still slashed .307/.377/.456 with 15 home runs, 73 RBI and eight stolen bases. It remains to be seen if Bogaerts will command or expect a deal the size of Turner's, but he is a top option for teams looking to fill or upgrade at the position.

Fri Nov 25 202213:20Padres Looking At Xander Bogaerts?
The San Diego Padres are a surprise team looking at shortstop, and they like free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Ha-Seong Kim could become a super-utility player, and Fernando Tatis Jr. could move to the outfield in 2023. The Padres are looking for leadership and also like first baseman Jose Abreu. The Friars have to also be considered players for Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga since right-hander Yu Darvish is his mentor. As expected, Bogaerts opted out of his deal with the Boston Red Sox after the 2022 season, making him a free agent. The 30-year-old will be one of the most coveted position players in free agency this winter after he slashed .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 557 at-bats for Boston this year.

Sun Nov 13 202210:41Phillies Interested In Xander Bogaerts?
The Philadelphia Phillies are believed to have real interest in free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts, and team president Dave Dombrowski has a strong link from his days with the Boston Red Sox. As expected, Bogaerts opted out of the final three years and $60 million remaining on his deal with Boston to become a free agent this offseason. He will have plenty of suitors as one of the top free-agent shortstops in a crowded group of high-end players at the position. Rookie shortstop Bryson Stott handled the 6 nicely for the Phillies during their World Series run to close out last season, but Bogaerts would be a big upgrade at the position if the Phils were able to land him. The 30-year-old made the All-Star team for the second straight season in 2022 and hit .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 150 games.

Mon Nov 7 202218:08Xander Bogaerts Officially Opts Out
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts officially opted out of his $20 million player option with the Red Sox for the 2023 season and has become a free agent, according to the MLB Players Association. Bogaerts will forego the final three years of his deal with Boston in order to hit the open market and cash in this winter. The shortstop free-agent market will have some big names on it this offseason, and Bogaerts will be right up there at the top. The 30-year-old made his fourth All-Star team (and second straight) in 2022 by hitting an impressive .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 631 plate appearances over 150 games. Playing in Boston was nice for his fantasy outlook, but he should remain a high-end target at the position, regardless of where he lands in free agency.

Thu Oct 6 202211:49Red Sox To Attempt To Retain Xander Bogaerts?
Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said that the team will try to retain shortstop Xander Bogaerts. "That process is going to start right away from our end. We haven't found that path yet. We still want to. We're going to work really hard at it," Bloom said. Bogaerts is fully expected to opt out of the final three years and $60 million on his deal to become a free agent this winter, but the Red Sox will be trying to keep him around after he hit .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 557 at-bats this year. If Bogaerts reaches the open market, he'll be one of the most coveted players available heading into the 2023 season.

Wed Oct 5 202200:48Xander Bogaerts Hits Grand Slam Tuesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts did damage in Tuesday's 6-0 rain-shortened win over the Rays, going 1-for-3 with a grand slam. Bogaerts obliterated a fifth-inning offering into the rain and over the Green Monster for his 15th long ball of the season. The 30-year-old has had a solid overall season but has been disappointing in the power department, slashing .305/.376/.455 with 73 RBI and eight stolen bases. Bogaerts could be with a new team in 2023, but either way, he should serve as a high-floor fantasy option.

Tue Oct 4 202216:09Xander Bogaerts Returns Against Rays
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) is back at shortstop and is hitting third against the Tampa Bay Rays and left-hander Jeffrey Springs on Tuesday. Bogaerts should be fine to play the final two games of the regular season for the BoSox. The 30-year-old is expected to opt out of his contract with the team this offseason, so Tuesday and Wednesday will likely be his final two games in Beantown. Bogaerts has made the All-Star team each of the last two years (four selections overall) and is currently hitting a strong .305/.376/.450 with an .826 OPS, 14 home runs, 69 RBI, 83 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 625 plate appearances over 148 games this year. He'll be one of the most coveted players in free agency if he reaches the open market this winter.

Mon Oct 3 202218:50Xander Bogaerts Out With Back Tightness
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) is out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays due to back tightness. It's the second straight game that Bogaerts will begin on the bench, but he should be considered day-to-day for the final two games of the regular season on Tuesday and Wednesday. If the 30-year-old isn't clear to play for the rest of the week, he'll finish with a .305/.376/.450 slash line with an .826 OPS, 14 home runs, 69 RBI, 83 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 551 at-bats in what is expected to be his final season in Boston. Enrique Hernandez is at the 6 on Monday and is hitting seventh against Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow. In 24 games in September, Hernandez went 20-for-82 (.244) with no homers, 10 RBI and 16 runs scored.

Fri Sep 23 202218:28Xander Bogaerts Out Of Red Sox's Lineup Friday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup Friday against the New York Yankees. It appears to be a routine day of rest for the 29-year-old, who has played in 140 out of 149 games so far this season. As he has for most of the season, Bogaerts is having a terrific September, slashing .355/.423/.516 with two homers, 13 runs scored, and eight RBI. He should be back Saturday, and fantasy managers in daily leagues will want to get him right back in their lineups. Even with a lack of power this season, the slick shortstop should be drafted fairly high once again next year.

Wed Sep 7 202200:36Xander Bogaerts Has Back Spasms Tuesday, Won't Play Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) exited Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Rays with back spasms, per MLB.com's Ian Browne. Bogaerts went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being replaced by Rob Refsnyder. It sounds like Bogaerts is day-to-day, as it was reported that he will not be in the lineup on Wednesday. His numbers haven't been bad with a .315/.382/.466 slash line, 12 home runs, 63 RBI and eight steals, but they also haven't been exactly what fantasy managers had hoped for in terms of counting stats. There is still time for Bogaerts to contribute, but fantasy managers should keep an eye out for when he will be back in the Red Sox's lineup.

Thu Aug 25 202216:14Xander Bogaerts, Tommy Pham Return Against Blue Jays
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) and outfielder Tommy Pham (back) are both back in the starting lineup on Thursday against Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Bogaerts is back at short and hitting cleanup, while Pham is in left field and batting leadoff. Both players left the game early on Tuesday with lower back spasms, but they're back in there against Toronto. Bogaerts hasn't hit well in August, but he's still slashing .298/.369/.439 with an .808 OPS, 10 long balls, 50 RBI, 66 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 433 at-bats this year. Pham has hit .267/.295/.493 with three homers, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored in 18 games since being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline.

Wed Aug 24 202211:29Xander Bogaerts, Tommy Pham Won't Play Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) and outfielder Tommy Pham (back) will not play on Wednesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Bogaerts left Tuesday's game early with mid-back spasms after going 0-for-2 with a walk. Meanwhile, Pham also left with back spasms in the same contest. It's unclear if either player will need a stint on the injured list, but for now, fantasy managers should consider them day-to-day. Pham also missed the game last Saturday, so his injury could be a bit more serious. Bogaerts is hitting a strong .298/.369/.439 with an .808 OPS, 10 home runs, 50 RBI, 66 runs scored and seven stolen bases and is a must-start whenever he's in the lineup. In 18 games with Boston, Pham has gone 20-for-75 (.267) with three homers, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.

Wed Aug 24 202200:03Xander Bogaerts Exits Tuesday With Back Spasms
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (back) exited Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Blue Jays in the top of the seventh inning with back spasms, per Providence Journal's Bill Koch. Bogaerts went 0-for-2 with a walk before being replaced by Bobby Dalbec. The 29-year-old has had an up-and-down season while playing through pain in his left wrist and left shoulder, slashing .298/.369/.439 with 10 home runs, 50 RBI, and seven stolen bases. Bogaerts should be considered day-to-day, although he will not be in Wednesday's lineup.

Mon Aug 22 202221:50Xander Bogaerts Dealing With Wrist, Shoulder Pain
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts told reporters on Monday that he has been playing through pain in his left wrist and left shoulder ever since his collision with Alex Verdugo on May 20. Bogaerts went on to reveal that he has been getting cortisone shots and he thinks that he has had to readjust his swing mechanics to compensate for the pain. Of course, that could explain why Bogaerts has struggled mightily at the plate of late, hitting just .220 with one homer over his past 15 games. Bogaerts can become a free-agent after the season, so these struggles are not coming at an opportune time for him. On the year, the veteran shortstop is hitting .299 with 10 homers, 66 runs, 50 RBI, and seven steals.

Fri Aug 19 202221:28Xander Bogaerts Ejected Friday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts was ejected from Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles for arguing balls and strikes. Bogaerts was given a quick hook after objecting to a low pitch that was called for strike three in the fourth inning. Manager Alex Cora joined the argument and was also ejected from the contest. Bogaerts went 1-for-3 with a run before the incident. He was replaced in the lineup by Jarren Duran with Kike Hernandez moving from the outfield to shortstop.

Tue Aug 16 202218:07Xander Bogaerts Out With Sore Shin Tuesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (shin) is being held out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kike Hernandez will be covering shortstop for the game. Bogaerts took a foul ball off his lower shin during this past weekend. It's unclear at this point whether or not he will miss additional time so he should be considered day-to-day. The 29-year-old has been struggling at the plate so far in August, slashing just .208/.220/.333 across 12 games this month. He owns a .303/.373/.444 slash line on the year to go along with nine home runs, 49 RBI and 63 runs.
