RHP Michael Blazek is fully recovered from a fractured hand that brought his season to an end on Aug. 14. He appeared in 45 games for Milwaukee last season and went 5-3 with a 2.43 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 55.2 innings of work.

Blazek (hand) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

Blazek has been out since mid-August with a fractured hand, so this move isn't entirely surprising. He was silently productive out of the bullpen this year for the Brewers, recording a career-best 2.43 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 55.2 innings this season and he could be in line for more late-inning work next year if he returns fully healthy.

Blazek was placed on the 15-day DL Friday with a right hand fracture.

The move is retroactive to Aug. 13, but it is pretty safe to rule Blazek out for the rest of the season, considering his pitching hand is broken. David Goforth was recalled from Triple-A to take Blazek's spot in the Brewers' bullpen.

Blazek will remain in the Brewers' bullpen for the time being, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Blazek was an option to start Wednesday in the spot made available by the placement of Wily Peralta (side) on the disabled list, but the Brewers will give the ball to Mike Fiers on short rest, and keep Blazek in the bullpen for now. Blazek owns a sparkling 1.59 ERA ERA in 18 appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen this season, so he could still be an option in the starting rotation at some point.

Blazek (4-1) picked up a win Friday, pitching three scoreless innings in relief of Wily Peralta and allowing just one hit while striking out three.

Blazek has quietly been an asset out of the Milwaukee bullpen thus far, with the only mark on his record being a high walk rate. However, he's only walked one batter in his last four appearances, spanning five innings, and he's kept the ball in the yard all year so far. Those attributes could net Blazek a bigger role in the bullpen or perhaps some spot-starting opportunities.

Blazek picked up his first loss of the season Tuesday against the White Sox, walking two batters and giving up a run in the eighth inning.

Blazek has been reliable all season in late relief appearances, winning three games before Tuesday. Even after this game, he still has a 1.08 WHIP and a 2.92 FIP.

Blazek struck out two during a scoreless 11th inning against the Cubs on Sunday to earn his third win of the season.

The Brewers came through with the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning to earn the righty his third win in relief in the last two weeks. Blazek has been lights-out this season with a 1.08 ERA across 16.2 innings, and could be a candidate to close for the team should anything happen to Francisco Rodriguez.

Blazek replaced an ineffective Mike Fiers in the fifth inning of Sunday's game and kept the Cardinals -- his former team -- at bay. Blazek is pitching in middle-to-long relief now, but he has not given up a run since Opening Day, and could be an option to start if needed. Manager Ron Roenicke said he has not considered that as of yet, but if Fiers' struggles continue, or another starter goes down, Blazek could be next in line.

Blazek has allowed two runs (one earned) while posting a 5:1 K:BB ratio in six innings over five appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen this season.

Blazek gave up five hits and both runs in his first outing of the season, but he has been exceptional since, allowing just one runner to reach base over his last 4.1 innings. While he is throwing the ball well, he is working in a long-to-middle relief role for the Brewers and has yet to appear in a game in which the team has won.
