Petricka recorded his first save of the year Thursday, striking out the only batter he faced to preserve a 3-2 win over Baltimore.
After Zach Duke gave up a two-run homer in the ninth, Petricka was the one who got the call to clean things up with David Robertson sitting out for the day after rough outings on Tuesday and Wednesday. Don't expect too many more save chances for Petricka, who's struggled himself this year, posting a hideous 1.63 WHIP.

Petricka threw a scoreless ninth inning against the Indians on Wednesday in his first appearance of the season.
Petricka came off the disabled list from an arm injury Monday, but he did not make it into either of the team's first two games against the Indians. He should serve in a late-inning relief role now that he is healthy, but the closer role is all David Robertson.

Petricka was placed on the disabled list with arm soreness, but it appears the issue has subsided. Following a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte, he will join the White Sox's bullpen for the first time this season. Petricka (arm) should return from the disabled list Monday, the Daily Herald reports.
Petricka served as the White Sox's closer for a spell in 2014, and the team will look to him to serve as a bridge to David Robertson in 2015. Zach Duke has been the team's top eighth inning man thus far this season as a left-hander, and Petricka could fill that role from the other side of the mound.

Petricka opened the season on the disabled list, but is currently on injury rehab with Triple-A Charlotte. The right-handed reliever will be one of Chicago's top bullpen options upon his return, though it's unlikely he passes David Robertson for a save opportunity any time soon.

Petricka (arm) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday.

General manager Rick Hahn confirmed Monday that Petricka will start the season on the disabled list, ESPN Chicago reports.
Hahn said he does not believe Petricka will miss time beyond the requisite 15 days, but he does not want to rush the reliever back into action with only a week remaining of camp. Zach Putnam and Zach Duke should occupy key bullpen roles with Petricka out.

Petricka, who finished the 2014 season as the White Sox's primary closer, will likely shift back to a setup role with news that the team had signed David Robertson to a four-year contract Monday.
The White Sox's closer spot spent much of 2014 in turmoil, but Petricka lent a bit of stability to the position for the final month-plus of the year. He should serve as one of the club's top right-handed setup men to Robertson in 2015.

The White Sox struggled for much of this season to find a consistent closer, but Petricka has stepped in and done a pretty solid job overall. Even though he has pitched well, it's not certain that he will be the team's closer again next season.

Petricka did not appear in a save chance against the Royals on Tuesday.
Zach Putnam earned the save, but Petricka was up and throwing in the bullpen in case he was needed. Petricka blew the save Monday, so the day off Tuesday was likely just a chance to rest after an erratic appearance.

The appearance was his first since leaving the team over the weekend to be with his wife as she delivered the couple's first daughter. Petricka had back-to-back poor showings in August, but he has now thrown four consecutive scoreless frames. He should be safely seated as the Sox's closer for the remainder of the season.
