Wilhelmsen is 2-3 with a 10.55 ERA in 21 relief appearances for Texas. He gave up six runs and nine hits in one inning on Monday in a 14-5 loss to Oakland.

RHP Tom Wilhelmsen was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock after getting sent down after a disastrous start. Wilhelmsen posted a 1.13 ERA in five outings with Round Rock after starting with a 9.98 ERA for the Rangers. "It's a lot less stressful for sure and it gave me an opportunity to just kind of remember just how to pitch and how good I am, get after some things and pitch in lower-leverage situations," said Wilhelmsen, who came in and pitched a scoreless ninth Saturday. "Just a nice mental break all around."

RHP Tom Wilhelmsen was demoted to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Wilhelmsen went 2-2 with a 9.98 ERA in 17 appearances and allowed six home runs and 17 runs, the most in both categories for American League relievers. The Rangers acquired Wilhelmsen from Seattle as part of a five-player trade on Nov. 16. "You look at the raw numbers, the strikeouts are down from last year," manager Jeff Banister said. "It looks like, from my vantage point, the breaking ball, fastball combo has not been as effective as it has been in the past." Wilhelmsen has six strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings this season. Last season with Seattle, he struck out 60 in 62 innings.

RHP Tom Wilhelmsen has had an interesting start to his home career as a Texas pitcher. In his first relief appearance, he didn't retire a batter and was touched for five runs. Thursday he was the winning pitcher after getting a double-play grounder from the only batter he faced against Baltimore. Friday night he was charged with five runs and suffered the loss, raising his ERA at Globe Life Park this season to 67.67.

RHP Tom Wilhelmsen and OF James Jones were acquired by the Rangers from the Mariners on Monday in exchange for OF Leonys Martin and RHP Anthony Bass. Texas also will receive a player to be named.Wilhelmsen, 31, went 13-for-15 in save chances for the Mariners this year. He finished 2-2 with a 3.19 ERA in 53 relief appearances.

Wilhelmsen will be unavailable for the Mariners on Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
After throwing 32 pitches in his first blown save of the season Wednesday, the Mariners will need to look elsewhere if a save situation were to come up. Wilhelmsen should be available again in the next couple days, but Carson Smith seems the likely option to receive the save opportunity Thursday should it present itself.

Wilhelmsen was charged with his first blown save of the season Wednesday after giving up a ninth-inning run on two hits and two walks in Kansas City.
Wilhelmsen has been far from excellent out of the Seattle bullpen this year, but he'd been unbeaten in a dozen save chances leading into Wednesday's action. Still, like the Mariners' closer to start the year, Fernando Rodney, Wilhelmsen puts too many runners on base, as evidenced by his ugly 1.41 WHIP. He'll remain the closer in Seattle to end the season, but it'd be a surprise to see him still occupying the role on Opening Day next year.

Wilhelmsen allowed one hit in a clean ninth inning to pick up his 11th save in a 3-1 win over the Angels on Wednesday.
Wilhelmsen has been brilliant since capturing the closer's role, as he's converted nine saves in his last 10 outings. The righty has also gone 12 straight outings without allowing a run and if he were the closer all season long, the Mariners may not be so far our of the playoff race. It remains to be seen if he'll keep the role next season, but he's putting together a nice resume and will close the remainder of this year.

Wilhelmsen picked up his 10th save of the year on Sunday, giving up just two hits in 1.2 innings to close the door on the Athletics.
That's another multi-inning save for Wilhelmsen --- three in the last nine days --- as The Bartender has looked good in his limited time as the closer. He hasn't given up a run in 9.2 innings, and has posted a 9:3 K:BB during that stretch, solid numbers considering the Mariners' struggles with the closer role this year.

Wilhelmsen recorded the final five outs of Wednesday's 8-3 victory over the Astros, giving up a lone hit and striking out three in the scoreless effort.
Wilhelmsen has racked up four saves in the Mariners' last six games, with his ability to work multiple innings playing into his favor Wednesday, after the Mariners tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. It looks like manager Lloyd McClendon plans on sticking with The Bartender as his closer, pushing rookie Carson Smith to a setup role.

Wilhemsen made a five-out save on Saturday, as he allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two in a 7-6 win over the White Sox.
It was far from a pretty save for Wilhemsen, as he allowed three inherited runners to scored in a 30-pitch outing. He still got the job done though and that's about all you can ask for as a Seattle closer right now. This was his sixth save of the season and it appears he's captured the role for the time being.

Wilhelmsen recorded his fourth save of the season Tuesday, and his second in three days.
Carson Smith was once again used to record more than three outs en route to a hold, serving as the bridge to Wilhelmsen in the ninth inning. It certainly appears that going forward Wilhelmsen will be the best bet for saves in the Mariners' bullpen.

Wilhelmsen earned his third save of the season Sunday in the Mariners' win over the White Sox.
Interestingly enough, Carson Smith recorded four outs to finish the seventh and retire the White Sox in the eighth before Wilhelmsen came on to close it out. It appears that even with the decision to designate Fernando Rodney for assignment, the Mariners are going to continue on with a committee of sorts to finish out games, while a rough outing for Smith on Saturday likely opened the door for the role adjustment in Sunday's game.

Wilhelmsen escaped with his first save of the year Thursday despite allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless bottom of the 12th against the Tigers.
With Carson Smith already having pitched the 10th and Fernando Rodney the 11th, Wilhelmsen was the next man up when the Mariners took a one-run lead in the top of the 12th. However, he was quite shaky, throwing more balls (nine) than strikes (eight), continuing what's been a season-long trend of putting far too many men on base. Don't look for Wilhelmsen to see many more save chances.
Fri Jul 17 201513:50Wilhelmsen recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
Wilhelmsen was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Wilhelmsen will return to the big league club after being optioned to Tacoma on July 3. In 22 appearances for the Mariners, he's 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA and 10.1 K/9.
Sat Jul 4 201501:11Wilhelmsen optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday
Wilhelmsen was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Shannon Drayer of 710 AM ESPN Seattle reports.
Aside from an early-season stint on the DL, Wilhelmsen has been a stalwart presence in the Mariners' bullpen, putting together a 4.68 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and 28:11 K:BB in 25 innings across 22 appearances. The 31-year-old will act as organizational depth for the foreseeable future.
Fri May 8 201517:04Wilhemsen (elbow) activated from disabled list Friday
Wilhemsen (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Friday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Wilhelmsen will replace Dominic Leone in the Mariners bullpen moving forward. The veteran reliever struggled early in the season, allowing two runs over 2.2 innings, but that could partially be contributed to the elbow issues. He's coming off a very nice 2014 campaign, and will look to continue that success as middle reliever again in 2015.

Wilhelmsen will throw a simulated game Wednesday and then likely one more rehab game, per Greg Johns of MLB.com.
This is another encouraging step for Wilhelmsen, but he'll probably be of more value to the Mariners than fantasy owners given that he's not going to receive many save opportunities after his return.

Wilhelmsen threw a successful 25-pitch bullpen session consisting of fastballs and sinkers Friday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Wilhelmsen is scheduled to toss another session Sunday, as his potential timetable for return draw nearer. A couple more sessions may be required, but if no setbacks occur, his return to the bullpen may be on the horizon.
