RHP Andrew Bailey had his contract purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. Bailey, 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four appearances for Lehigh Valley, was an All-Star closer with Oakland in 2009 and '10 but was later traded to Boston. He missed the 2014 season following shoulder surgery, and he spent last season in the Yankees' chain, making 10 appearances with the big club. The Phillies signed him as a free agent in December. "We're going to see where he fits in," manager Pete Mackanin said. "I'm not going to make him the closer. ... We'll see where he fits in, depending on where the game is."

RHP Andrew Bailey's $1 million option was declined by the Yankees on Nov. 3. Bailey, 31, appeared in 10 games for New York this year, going 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA. He is still under team control, and if the Yankees tender him a contract this winter, he is arbitration-eligible.

Bailey allowed three runs while recording just one out, as he picked up the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox.
After a two year absence, Bailey has struggled in his return to the big leagues, as he's now sporting an even 9.00 ERA through eight innings pitched. He'll be a free agent after the season, but having a full offseason and spring training will likely help wherever he lands.

Bailey walked two and allowed a run while recording just one out in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.
With the Yankees holding a double-digit lead, manager Joe Girardi went with Bailey for his first appearance in a big league game since July of 2013. The 31-year-old struggled a bit, as he walked the first two batters he faced before allowing a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single. Still, it's an encouraging sign to see him back out on a major league mound, and he figures to see some more appearances as a lower-leverage option out of the bullpen.

Bailey was officially recalled by the Yankees on Tuesday.
The veteran righty hasn't pitched at the major league level since 2013 as a member of the Red Sox. A shoulder injury slowed his progress earlier in the summer, but Bailey has compiled a strong 1.80 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 35.0 innings across four minor league levels this season.

Bailey will be recalled by the Yankees when rosters expand Tuesday, Ryan Hatch of The Star-Ledger reports.
His return to an MLB mound will be a nice moment for a former top closer who's been on a long and painful road through the shoulder injuries that have derailed his career. Bailey's had success while working his way back in the minors this year, racking up a 1.80 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 42:11 K:BB in 35 innings.

Bailey (shoulder) was activated off the Triple-A DL on Thursday and assigned to High-A Tampa, The Westchester Journal News reports.
Bailey was attempting to work his way back to the majors for the first time since July of 2013, but a setback in April forced the righty to be shut down for nearly two months. He'll likely continue to work his way up through the organizational ranks, but after two full years off, it's unclear if he'll get the opportunity to join the big league team at any point this season.

Bailey has been shut down and moved to extended spring training with a shoulder issue, The Westchester Journal News reports.
Bailey had begun the season in High-A Tampa and had been able to pitch in back-to-back games last week, but it appears the same shoulder that he underwent surgery on in 2013 is once again causing issues. General manager Brian Cashman indicated that the club didn't have a clear timetable for when Bailey would even be able to get back on a mound, so at this point it's hard to imagine him being a factor on the big league roster at any point this season.

Bailey will begin the season at High-A Tampa as he continues to rehab from shoulder surgery, Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News reports.
Bailey was a candidate to crack the big league roster despite not having pitched since July of 2013, but only pitched five innings in the spring and never appeared in back-to-back days, so the club elected to keep him down in the minors to get more work early on. If he can continue to get through a heavier workload without any setbacks, the 30-year-old could join the team toward the end of April.
