LF Seth Smith has homered in three consecutive games for the first time in his career. His three-run shot in the fourth inning Saturday night gave Smith a home run in each of the first three games of the Baltimore series. Smith has nine home runs this season and needs one more to become the seventh Seattle player with 10 homers this season.

LF Seth Smith has made a habit of closing out months in style. In each of the season's first three months, Smith had a home run on the final day. On Friday, he finally opened a month with a homer, hitting a solo shot in the first inning to give him home runs on back-to-back nights.

RF Seth Smith had singles in all three of his Tuesday at-bats. He was lifted in favor of PH Franklin Gutierrez in the eighth; Gutierrez doubled in his only plate appearance. Smith's 3-for-3 performance took his season batting average from .236 to .257.

RF Seth Smith broke up Kansas City starter Kris Medlen's no-hit bid with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the sixth Friday night. It was Smith's third home run of the season and the 100th of his career.

LF Seth Smith hit his 99th career home run and his second of the season Sunday in Seattle's 9-4 win over the Angels. Smith hit a two-run drive off RHP Cory Rasmus in the top of the ninth inning. Smith finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs to raise his team-leading batting average to .308.

RF Seth Smith's groin is getting better but manager Scott Servais was not quite ready to insert him into the outfield. Servais used him as a defensive replacement in right field Saturday but on Sunday he was the designated hitter for the fifth time and had two hits.

Smith has been dealing with a slightly strained right groin which he also had during spring training. Manager Scott Servais said Smith is not at 100 percent and probably is not ready to play consecutive games. Smith was on base twice Friday and scored a run before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.

Smith is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Astros, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

Smith continues to sit against left-handers, and that's the case again Wednesday as they face the Astros and southpaw Scott Kazmir. Franklin Gutierrez will replace him in left field, batting fifth for the Mariners.

Smith is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

He's made less than a handful of starts against left-handed pitching this season, so Smith's absence Saturday against Andrew Heaney should not come as a surprise. Lefty masher Franklin Gutierrez will start in left field and bat fifth.
