Tom Layne registered his first career save with a perfect inning in Wednesday's win over the Pirates.
Layne got a groundout and a flyout before getting Pedro Alvarez looking to end the game. Dale Thayer had pitched in two straight games and blew a save Tuesday, but it's not clear if he was unavailable or if manager Bud Black just wanted to change things up.
