RHP Craig Stammen is throwing off a mound and in the bullpen at 75 percent intensity and throwing all his pitches at the Indians' spring training facility in Goodyear, Ariz. With Washington last year, Stammen had season-ending surgery April 19 to repair torn flexor tendons in his elbow. He was non-tendered by the Nationals and signed to a minor-league contract by the Indians.

Stammen has been transferred to the 60-day DL, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.

He's expected to miss the entire season, so the move simply opens up a space on the 40-man roster for Joe Ross.

Stammen (forearm) has been diagnosed with a torn right flexor tendon, and he will likely miss the remainder of the season, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.

Given that he needs surgery to repair the flexor tendon, Stammen will almost certainly miss the rest of the season. He got off to a solid start this year, but the Nationals shouldn't have much trouble finding another middle reliever.

The Nationals placed Stammen on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with right forearm stiffness.

Stammen pitched four of the last five days, but his sore forearm will sideline him at least until the last day of April, and possibly beyond. Taylor Jordan was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Stammen in the Nationals' bullpen.

Stammen has an 8.68 ERA and 7:1 K:BB ratio through 9.1 spring innings.

The ERA is ugly, but is fueled by a high BABIP in a small sample size, and Stammen's other numbers don't seem to indicate there's anything wrong with him. He should once again be the jack-of-all-trades in the Nationals' bullpen, but he'll need to turn around last season's decline in his strikeout rate to regain even a little fantasy value.

Stammen agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal with the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

Stammen struggled in 2014 compared to his three previous seasons, but finished with descent numbers (3.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). He figures to continue in a middle-relief role for the Nats, with the ability to go multiple innings if needed.

Stammen was tendered a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline.

The normally reliable long man struggled at times in 2014 and saw a big dip in his K/9 rate, but Stammen will return and supply a middle inning bridge to Tyler Clippard, Matt Thornton and Drew Storen.

Stammen gave up five runs on six hits without recording an out in the second game of Friday's double-header.

Ouch. The outing sent his ERA soaring from 3.22 to 3.84, and put a capper on a disappointing season that saw his strikeout rate fall from last year's 8.71 K/9 to 6.94 in 2014.

Stammen was battered out of the bullpen Monday, allowing two runs in a frame of work.

Stammen also allowed six hits in his inning. The 30 year old hurler may have hit a wall this season, allowing 12 runs in his last 11.2 innings out of the bullpen. As a result of his slump, Stammen's ERA has risen to 4.07 for the season.

Stammen allowed six hits and a walk while recording only one strikeout. The right-hander had been solid for the Nationals in his first four appearances, but the Marlins weren't fooled by anything he threw. Stammen's ERA ballooned from 1.23 to 6.48 with the outing.

Strasburg lasted only two innings before being lifted due to a muscle issue in his back, forcing Stammen into action. All the reliever did was throw four perfect innings, striking out three. The win was his third of the year, and the Nationals' long reliever now has a 2.60 ERA.

Washington didn't have much of a chance after Zach Duke spotted the Giants an early lead, but Stammen's poor performance sealed their fate. Stammen stranded a handful of runners to limit the damage this game had on his ERA, which jumped from 2.25 to 2.78. As a long reliever, Stammen has fulfilled expectations, adding a 1.19 WHIP and 23/5 K/BB rate over 22 2/3 innings.
