RHP Craig Stammen is throwing off a mound and in the bullpen at 75 percent intensity and throwing all his pitches at the Indians' spring training facility in Goodyear, Ariz. With Washington last year, Stammen had season-ending surgery April 19 to repair torn flexor tendons in his elbow. He was non-tendered by the Nationals and signed to a minor-league contract by the Indians.
Sat Jun 6 201510:40Stammen transferred to 60-day DL
Stammen has been transferred to the 60-day DL, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
He's expected to miss the entire season, so the move simply opens up a space on the 40-man roster for Joe Ross.
Thu Apr 16 201516:33Craig Stammen: (Forearm) Likely Done For Season
Stammen (forearm) has been diagnosed with a torn right flexor tendon, and he will likely miss the remainder of the season, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports.
Given that he needs surgery to repair the flexor tendon, Stammen will almost certainly miss the rest of the season. He got off to a solid start this year, but the Nationals shouldn't have much trouble finding another middle reliever.

The Nationals placed Stammen on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with right forearm stiffness.
Stammen pitched four of the last five days, but his sore forearm will sideline him at least until the last day of April, and possibly beyond. Taylor Jordan was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Stammen in the Nationals' bullpen.

Stammen has an 8.68 ERA and 7:1 K:BB ratio through 9.1 spring innings.
The ERA is ugly, but is fueled by a high BABIP in a small sample size, and Stammen's other numbers don't seem to indicate there's anything wrong with him. He should once again be the jack-of-all-trades in the Nationals' bullpen, but he'll need to turn around last season's decline in his strikeout rate to regain even a little fantasy value.
Thu Jan 15 201520:39Stammen agreed to one-year
Stammen agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal with the Nationals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
Stammen struggled in 2014 compared to his three previous seasons, but finished with descent numbers (3.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP). He figures to continue in a middle-relief role for the Nats, with the ability to go multiple innings if needed.
Wed Dec 3 201411:07Stammen tendered contract prior to Tuesday's deadline
Stammen was tendered a contract prior to Tuesday's deadline.
The normally reliable long man struggled at times in 2014 and saw a big dip in his K/9 rate, but Stammen will return and supply a middle inning bridge to Tyler Clippard, Matt Thornton and Drew Storen.

Stammen gave up five runs on six hits without recording an out in the second game of Friday's double-header.
Ouch. The outing sent his ERA soaring from 3.22 to 3.84, and put a capper on a disappointing season that saw his strikeout rate fall from last year's 8.71 K/9 to 6.94 in 2014.

Stammen was battered out of the bullpen Monday, allowing two runs in a frame of work.
Stammen also allowed six hits in his inning. The 30 year old hurler may have hit a wall this season, allowing 12 runs in his last 11.2 innings out of the bullpen. As a result of his slump, Stammen's ERA has risen to 4.07 for the season.
Tue Apr 15 201422:14Stammen hit hard in relief of Strasburg
Craig Stammen was hit hard in relief of Stephen Strasburg during Tuesday's loss to the Nationals, allowing five runs in an inning of work.
Stammen allowed six hits and a walk while recording only one strikeout. The right-hander had been solid for the Nationals in his first four appearances, but the Marlins weren't fooled by anything he threw. Stammen's ERA ballooned from 1.23 to 6.48 with the outing.

Fri May 31 201322:42Stammen earns win in relief of Strasburg Fri.
Craig Stammen threw four scoreless innings in relief of injured starter Stephen Strasburg to earn the win on Friday.
Strasburg lasted only two innings before being lifted due to a muscle issue in his back, forcing Stammen into action. All the reliever did was throw four perfect innings, striking out three. The win was his third of the year, and the Nationals' long reliever now has a 2.60 ERA.

Tue May 21 201304:31Stammen slapped around in loss to Giants
Craig Stammen was knocked around the park by the Giants Monday, allowing two runs on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.
Washington didn't have much of a chance after Zach Duke spotted the Giants an early lead, but Stammen's poor performance sealed their fate. Stammen stranded a handful of runners to limit the damage this game had on his ERA, which jumped from 2.25 to 2.78. As a long reliever, Stammen has fulfilled expectations, adding a 1.19 WHIP and 23/5 K/BB rate over 22 2/3 innings.

Fri Jan 18 201312:46Craig Stammen avoids arbitration with Nats
Nationals avoided arbitration with RHP Craig Stammen by agreeing to a two-year contract.
The financials of the deal aren't known. Stammen, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super 2 qualifier, held a 2.34 ERA while striking out a batter per inning for the Nats last season.

Sat Jun 4 201119:46Nats recall RHP Stammen
Nationals recalled RHP Craig Stammen from Triple-A Syracuse.
Stammen has yet to appear in the big leagues this season after posting a 5.13 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 128 innings a year ago. Primarily a starter in 2010, he will pitch out of the bullpen, and can be safely ignored in all fantasy leagues.

Sun Aug 8 201015:20Stammen moved to bullpen
Craig Stammen will be shifted to the bullpen with the return of Stephen Strasburg on Tuesday.
Stammen actually has a 2.38 ERA with a 20/9 K/BB ratio over his last four starts, but the Nats simply don't have room for him in the rotation with the return of Strasburg and Jason Marquis, as well as the impending arrivals of Yunesky Maya and Jordan Zimmermann.

Sun Jul 18 201016:12Stammen excellent in tough-luck loss
Craig Stammen hurled six innings of one-run ball in a loss to the Marlins on Sunday afternoon.
A rare solid start by Stammen. He scattered six hits while fanning six and walking three. The lone run scored on an RBI double by Gaby Sanchez in the bottom of the fifth inning. Stammen has just one win over his last 13 starts. Sunday's start notwithstanding, he is not a recommended option in fantasy.
Mon Jun 28 201023:01Nats recall Craig Stammen
Nationals recalled RHP Craig Stammen from Triple-A Syracuse.
As expected, Stammen will start Tuesday's game against the Braves. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 5.43 and 1.45 WHIP over 12 starts with the Nationals this season. He's not worth your time in fantasy leagues.
Mon Jun 28 201015:18Stammen to start against Braves on Tuesday
Craig Stammen will be called up to start against the Braves on Tuesday.
Stammen was optioned to the minors on June 6 after posting a 5.43 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 31/16 K/BB ratio over 12 big league starts. The 26-year-old has done a decent job at Triple-A, but should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Sat Jun 19 201013:29Stammen could move to Nationals' bullpen
Nationals manager Jim Riggleman told MLB.com's Bill Ladson that Craig Stammen could pitch out of the Nationals' bullpen when the Nationals recall him.
The Nationals would be wise not to add another starter to their current mix, since Jordan Zimmermann is going to take someone's spot when he returns in August anyway. Stammen wasn't particularly effective in his 12 starts with the Nationals, 1-2 with a 5.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP, so perhaps a move to the bullpen will benefit him.
