C Francisco Pena got his second start Sunday since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on May 31. It was a special day because Pena's father and former catcher Tony Pena, is the first base coach for New York. Francisco Pena hit a homer in his first game Thursday against the Red Sox. "Just to see the joy on Tony's face on Thursday when we were coming here when his son hit the homerun," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "It's just really special for him to watch. I was asked the question do you think Tony, when he looks at his career, would rather have the success he had or the success for his sons. I know it's for his sons. Tony is such a great family man. I'm sure he's on cloud nine today." Pena went 2 for 3.

The smile on his face in the locker room clearly told the story. "Every little kid has that dream," Pena said. "It's the first home run in the big leagues. It was real happy. It was a great feeling. C Francisco Pena was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket. Pena, 26, was batting .200 with two doubles, a triple, and six RBIs in 24 games at Pawtucket, and had hit safely in five of his last six games. Over 808 minor league games, he's batting .237 with 80 home runs and 358 RBIs. He's appeared in nine career major league games.

C Francisco Pena was acquired by the Orioles from the Royals on Wednesday in a cash transaction. Pena, 26, went 1-for-7 in eight games for Kansas City this year. He hit .251/.305/.430 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs in 95 games for Triple-A Omaha.

Pena was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.

Pena will join the roster as a third-string backstop, serving behind the likes of Salvador Perez and Drew Butera. He earned the callup after posting a .251/.305/.430 slash line with 13 home runs over 95 games for the Storm Chases. Although Pena could help manager Ned Yost provide Perez with some extra rest down the stretch, it's unlikely he sees enough reps to provide major utility in mixed formats.

Pena was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday, Andy McCullough of the KC Star reports.

Pena was called up earlier in the week when Erik Kratz hit the DL, but the Royals made a move to acquire Drew Butera from the Angels, and it appears Butera, who was called up Friday, will serve as the backup to Salvador Perez. Pena will return to Omaha, where he's hit .239/.282/.343 with five RBI this season.

Pena was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Erik Kratz sustained an injury earlier in the week that landed him on the disabled list, so Pena will be called up to serve as the backup to Salvador Perez during his absence. In 18 games with Triple-A Omaha this season, Pena is sporting a .239/.282/.343 slash line with a home run and five RBI.

With Salvador Perez and Erik Kratz both healthy, Pena never had a real shot to make the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old backstop slugged 27 home runs in just 370 plate appearances for Triple-A Omaha last season, but he only drew 16 walks on his way to a .240/.280/.515 slash line. While past results suggest he'll likely have a low BABIP, Pena should improve upon his .216 mark from last season. If he can also maintain the power and draw a few more walks, his stat line would be hard to ignore.

Pena will rejoin the Royals' roster as the third catcher for the remainder of the season. He will be buried behind Salvador Perez and Erik Kratz on the depth chart, which will likely leave him with very little playing time.
