Blanco had been scheduled to lead off for the third straight game in place of CF Denard Span, who continues to be bothered by right neck soreness. The recent concussion was Blanco's second this season, and with their playoff hopes dwindling, the Giants have no reason to rush him back this year. Despite starting the year as a reserve, Blanco put together his best statistical season, slashing .291/.368/.413 with a career-high .122 ISO.

It's unclear exactly when Blanco suffered the injury, as he remained in for the entirety of Wednesday's contest. He'll now go through the league's concussion protocol, and could be in jeopardy of missing the remainder of the season.

After an injury-laden week in which he started just one of four games, Blanco made an emphatic return to the lineup Saturday. The Giants have mixed and matched well with Blanco, who has hit lefties and righties at a nearly identical clip. Blanco has provided good multi-category numbers this season, but is unlikely to start regularly given the Giants' crowded outfield.
