Sun Jul 18 201022:01Oliver candidate for rotation demotion
Andy Oliver will likely be the odd man out of the starting rotation when Armando Galarraga is recalled for Tuesday's start, according to MLive.com's Steve Kornacki.
The Tigers will have one starter too many, meaning that one of Oliver, Rick Porcello, or Galarraga will not remain in the rotation. Oliver is 0-4 with a 7.36 ERA over his first five starts in the big leagues, so he'd seem to be an obvious choice for demotion, despite his obvious talent.

Sun Jul 18 201016:04Oliver takes loss vs. Indians
Andy Oliver was tagged for five runs over 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Indians on Sunday afternoon.
Oliver yielded four hits -- including a three-run inside-the-park home run by Jhonny Peralta in the first inning -- while walking a career-high five and striking out four. With the loss, the young left-hander fell to 0-4 with a 7.36 ERA over his first five starts in the big leagues. With Rick Porcello's brilliant performance on Saturday and Armando Galarraga expected to be recalled from Triple-A this week, it would seem Oliver is the natural choice to be sent down to the minors. Despite his lack of success on the big league level, there's still a lot to like here. Remember, he only had 14 starts with Double-A Erie before his promotion. He's a name to file away for the future.
Sun Jul 11 201016:02Oliver struggles again in loss to Twins
Andy Oliver fell to 0-3 in the major leagues after surrendering four runs in 4 2/3 innings versus the Twins today.
Oliver was hit hard by the Orioles last time out, and his struggles continued again today. The southpaw walked four, one intentionally, while also hitting a batter and giving up five hits. Oliver does have the long-term potential to be a No. 3 starter, but the Tigers can't afford many more bad performances and may opt to give Oliver some more time in the minors as a result.
Mon Jul 5 201016:57Tigers' Oliver removed in second inning
Andy Oliver was lifted after allowing six runs -- five earned -- in 1 2/3 innings Monday against the Orioles.
Oliver was given five runs to work with in the bottom of the first, but he showed his immaturity today. The Tigers have Thursday off, so they're not going to need him to make another start before the All-Star break. They might send him down and then reevaluate his status later this month.
Wed Jun 30 201016:09Tigers' Oliver takes loss to Twins
Andy Oliver took another loss on Wednesday after allowing five runs -- two earned -- in six innings against the Twins.
Oliver has given up two earned runs in six innings in both of his starts since arriving in the majors, but he's lost both times. Oliver's own error resulted in two of the unearned runs today. He's due to get the Orioles next, so AL-only leagues could give him a try, even if it's just for the one week.
Fri Jun 25 201022:27Oliver solid in MLB debut, but takes 1st loss
Andy Oliver held the Braves to two earned runs over six innings Friday, but took a loss in his major league debut.
Oliver looked solid, but the Tigers gave him very little help offensively. He struck out four batters, walked only one, and allowed only five hits. If he can regularly pitch like that, the 22-year-old will have plenty of success on the major league level. He posted a 1.28 WHIP and a 70/25 K/BB ratio in 14 starts for Double-A Erie before his promotion on Friday afternoon.
Fri Jun 25 201017:54Tigers call up Oliver to start Friday
Tigers purchased the contract of LHP Andy Oliver from Double-A Erie.
The 22-year-old Oliver will make his major league debut just barely over a year after being selected out of Oklahoma State. He'll face the Braves tonight.
Tue Jun 22 201012:57Tigers to call up young lefty Andy Oliver
The Tigers plan to call up left-handed pitching prospect Andy Oliver to start on Friday against the Braves.
Oliver was selected in the second round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft out of Oklahoma State. He hasn't made a start above Double-A to date, but the Tigers like what they have seen from the youngster thus far. In 14 starts at Double-A Erie this season, Oliver has posted a 1.28 WHIP and a 70/25 K/BB ratio. We'd let him get his feet wet before giving him fantasy consideration.
