Gimenez had one of his best games of the season on Saturday, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, three RBI and two runs scored in a blowout win over the Mariners.
Gimenez has been splitting playing time with Carlos Corporan, Robinson Chirinos, and Bobby Wilson all season, but he appears to be the go-to guy right now. Since September 11, Gimenez has played in seven games and that's the most for any Ranger catcher by far. The numbers aren't atrocious either, as he maintains a .253 average and .845 OPS in 75 at-bats this season.

Sun Aug 9 201514:17Gimenez out of lineup Sunday against Mariners
Gimenez is out of the lineup Sunday against the Mariners.
Since taking the reins as the Rangers' primary catcher following Robinson Chirinos' placement on the DL on Aug. 1, Gimenez has provided the team with a surprising offensive boost. In Saturday's game, Gimenez went 2-for-4 with three RBI, boosting his average to .375 through five games. Gimenez's mediocre offensive track record (.216/.301/.317 career line over 526 MLB plate appearances) suggests he won't remain productive, but look for him to receive the majority of the starts behind the plate until Chirinos returns.

Gimenez will bat ninth for the Rangers following his recall from Triple-A Round Rock, but it's unlikely that he'll continue to be in the lineup on a consistent basis. With Bobby Wilson likely joining the club, it's quite possible Giminez's stay with Texas will last just a day or two.

Gimenez was traded to the Indians on Saturday for future considerations, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Jeff Wilson reports.
With Yan Gomes being placed on the 7-day concussion DL, Gimenez will join the Indians immediately to add some depth at catcher. Gimenez was slashing .262/.331/.355 with zero home runs in 34 games with the Rangers this season, before getting sent back down to Triple-A once Geovany Soto got healthy. Gimenez could see a few starts behind the dish while Gomes is out, and should act as the backup catcher once Gomes is healthy.
