Fri Jul 31 201516:46Sampson traded to Mariners on Friday for J.A
Sampson was traded to the Mariners on Friday for J.A. Happ.
A fifth-round pick in 2012, he has averaged just 6.3 K/9 in four minor league seasons, but Sampson does have good control and has enjoyed some success at the Triple-A level this season (3.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP). He may not be more than a sixth starter/swingman long-term, but at least the Mariners got something for Happ's expiring deal.
