OF Ichiro Suzuki enters the final six games of the season one hit short of becoming the sixth player in major league history to record 50 hits at age 43 or older, according to STATS. Suzuki was 0-for-2 with two groundouts as a pinch hitter in the Arizona series. Julio Franco hit the 50-hit plateau four times after reaching 43. Pete Rose and Cap Anson did it three times, Tony Perez twice and Honus Wagner once.

RF Giancarlo Stanton has 57 homers as the Marlins finish the road trip with three games at Colorado, a place that has been good to him. Stanton is slashing .316/.413/.797 with eight doubles, 10 homers and 24 RBIs in 20 career games at Coors Field. Stanton had two homers in three games there last year and hit three there in both 2011 and 2012, his first two full years in the league. Can he reach his goal of 61? "Why not?," manager Don Mattingly said before the series in Arizona, where Stanton hit one. "These are two good ballparks."

RHP Mike Leake (3-1 with Seattle, 10-13 overall) took his first loss on Sunday since being traded on Aug. 30. As a Mariner, Leake has pitched 32 innings and produced a 2.53 ERA. He limited the Indians to three runs in 6 2/3 innings Sunday.

2B Dee Gordon was 1-for-4 with a single Sunday, and he enters the final six games of the season third in the NL in hits (191) and second in stolen bases (56). His .342 on-base percentage is the second highest of his career. Manager Don Mattingly said he continues to see improvement from his leadoff man, who did not play organized baseball until his senior year in high school. "We've seen it defensively, we've seen it with the stolen bases," Mattingly said. "His on-base percentage is climbing, and that's one thing you like to see out of him. The main thing is getting on base. You always want guys who get on base. He's kind of making runs by himself."

SS Jean Segura sat out the Sunday game with a contusion of his right middle finger, an injury he sustained in the ninth inning on Saturday. UT Taylor Motter took over at shortstop for Segura on Sunday. For the season, Segura is batting .296 (154-for-521) with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs.

CF/2B Jason Kipnis returned the lineup in center field after taking a day off on Saturday to rest his healing right hamstring. It was his fifth appearance in center field after 802 career appearances at second base. Kipnis went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. He is hitting .233 for the season.

OF Jay Bruce was in the lineup as the designated hitter Sunday to accommodate a recurring heel injury. It was his seventh career appearance as a DH, his first since being traded to the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 9. The last time Bruce played as a DH was on July 31 for the New York Mets against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. On Sunday, Bruce went 1-for-4. He is hitting .248 in 129 at-bats as an Indian.

DH/1B Edwin Encarnacion played at first base Sunday in place of Carlos Santana, his first appearance at the position since Sept. 1. Encarnacion went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. For the season, he is hitting .254 with 37 homers and 99 RBIs.

1B Carlos Santana was out of the lineup Sunday after hurting his left shoulder in a collision at first base on Saturday. However, Indians manager Terry Francona indicated he expected the slugger to return quickly. "He is stiff, which we expected, but he tested out really well," Francona said Sunday. "Good strength. He'll get treatment all day today. He'll come in tomorrow and get treated, but my guess is he'll probably play on Tuesday." Santana is hitting .259 with 23 homers and 78 RBIs.

C Buster Posey went 0-for-3 on Sunday, but his 150 hits on the season continue to lead the team. Posey is on pace to become the first catcher in major league history to lead his team in hits for four seasons.

RF Hunter Pence was 10-for-76 (.132) in his career against Dodgers LHP Clayton Kershaw before going 3-for-3 off the ace in the Giants' 3-1 loss on Sunday. Pence was also hitless in his past 11 at-bats overall entering Sunday.

LF Mac Williamson had the second three-hit game of his career on Sunday, going 3-for-3 with a home run in a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Williamson's other three-hit game came on June 23, 2016, when he went 3-for-4 in a 5-3 win at the Pittsburgh Pirates.

C Yasmani Grandal came into Sunday 4-for-49 (.082) in September with 23 strikeouts in 17 games, but he drove in all three runs of the Dodgers' 3-1 victory against the San Francisco Giants. Grandal hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning and two-run homer in the fourth.

LHP Clayton Kershaw reached 200 strikeouts for the seventh time in his 10-year career, the first Dodgers pitcher to accomplish that feat. Kershaw struck out six in eight innings against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday and earned his 18th win of the season in the 3-1 victory. He is tied for the major league lead in wins.

LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu could miss his final start of the regular season after he was hit in the left forearm by a comebacker on Saturday night and left the game with a contusion, manager Dave Roberts said. Ryu was scheduled to pitch Friday at the Colorado Rockies, his final start before the playoffs. Ryu is in the hunt for one of the final starting roles for the postseason.

RF Yasiel Puig did not play against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, a day after making the final out trying to steal second base in a 2-1 loss to the Giants. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was frustrated that Puig tried to steal the base on his own, and on Sunday said, "It's important that the guys I write in the lineup, I can trust them."

3B Matt Chapman went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI on Sunday afternoon in an 8-1 victory against Texas in Oakland. Chapman has 21 doubles, two triples and 13 home runs in his first 77 major league games. Thirty-six of his 61 hits have been for extra bases.

OF Jake Smolinski, who missed the first 133 games of the season after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder, made his first start Sunday, playing center field against Texas. Smolinski went 2-for-4 with a run in an 8-1 victory against the Rangers. He had seven putouts. Smolinski came off the bench and played in the field in four games before Sunday.

LF Khris Davis hit his 41st home run of the season Sunday afternoon, a two-run shot in the fifth inning of an 8-1 victory against Texas at the Oakland Coliseum. Davis crushed Rangers LHP Martin Perez' 1-1 changeup high and deep over the center field fence. Davis is one home run shy of matching his career high, which he set last season, his first with Oakland. He has a career-high 105 RBIs this year, three more than his previous high mark, set last year.

RHP Ian Kennedy (4-13, 5.50 ERA) allowed five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings Sunday against the White Sox to drop his seventh straight decision. He pitched one day after traveling from Kansas City after the birth of his first son. In eight previous career starts against the White Sox, Kennedy was 2-2 with a 4.63 ERA.
