C Austin Hedges is still at least a couple days away from being activated from the concussion disabled list. Hedges has been out since July 14 with was originally described as a "sub-concussive" injury. "Hedges is going to take batting practice today," Padres manager Andy Green said Wednesday. "He will do some catching on flat ground because no one is throwing a bullpen. We definitely want to get him catching the ball in a bullpen before we talk about activating him. We want to make sure he's seeing the ball and everything is going right. It's probably a few days off from activating him. At this point in time, we're not looking at a rehab assignment for him. If it carries on much further, we might look at it a different way. He hit in cage yesterday. He's a few days out."

SS Jose Reyes was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs Wednesday night. He is batting .306 (37-for-121) over 34 games since June 16 with seven doubles, four triples, six homers, 19 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

INF Yangervis Solarte, who has been out since June 20 with a left oblique strain, will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso Thursday night. The last step for the switch-hitter was being able to hit from the right side of the plate, something he accomplished without pain during batting practice over the last two days. Solarte was hitting .268 through the season's first 70 games with 10 doubles, 10 homers and 40 RBIs.

LHP Travis Wood, who was acquired from Kansas City Monday, in the trade that sent starting pitcher Trevor Cahill and relievers Brandon Maurer and Ryan Buchter to the Royals, could start this weekend. "That's where his desire is," said Green. "Throughout the rest of the season, he might wind up doing both. That kind of versatility is what drew us to him in the first place. We're going to have some potential holes in the next week or so. He's the type of guy who can fill a lot of holes."

LHP Brett Anderson was designated for assignment. He was 2-2 with a 8.18 ERA in six starts this season.

RHP Jhoulys Chacin, who like already moved RHP Trevor Cahill has been the subject of trade rumors, ran his record to 10-7 Wednesday night, although he wasn't as sharp as he has been previously at Petco Park. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Chacin, who entered the game with the lowest home earned run average in the National League, is now 6-2 in 11 starts at Petco Park with a 2.18 ERA.

OF Adam Lind continues to impress while being pressed into more duty because of injuries. He's playing a solid left field for the Nationals and keeps hitting, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs on Wednesday to raise his average to .331. "He's really there out of necessity," manager Dusty Baker said.

2B Daniel Murphy has a five-game hitting streak after hitting his 17th homer of the season in the seventh inning Wednesday. Murphy is hitting .373 with 18 RBIs over his last 15 games.

RHP Rob Scahill was sent to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Scahill was 1-3 with a 4.43 ERA in 18 games with Milwaukee this season, walking 10 and striking out 10 in 22 1/3 innings.

RHP Stephen Strasburg will be placed on the 10-day disabled list with a forearm injury. Strasburg left his last start after two innings and team said he was suffering from a nerve impingement. "He'll miss one turn," Nationals manager Dusty Baker said. "Good thing, this is where the 10-day DL comes into effect, to help him."

RHP Michael Blazek gets the spot start Thursday, the first of his major league career. In 108 games, Blazek has an 8-5 record with a 3.88 ERA. He's made 31 starts at Triple-A, including 10 for the Brewers' affiliate in 2017.

RHP Jimmy Nelson got a hard-luck no-decision Wednesday, despite striking out 10 batters during his seven-plus innings of work. But a four-pitch walk to start the eighth ended his night. "He was outstanding for sure," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.

RHP Matt Garza was placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Sunday with a right lower leg strain. Garza said he hurt his calf during a throwing session. "I hope it's a one-start thing and that's it," he said. Perhaps it was for the best: Garza has a 19.85 ERA in four starts at Nationals Park.

OF Domingo Santana hit arguably the longest home run in Nationals Park history, a mammoth, 476-foot shot of Gio Gonzalez in the first inning Wednesday. The ball cleared the seating area in left field and landed on the concourse, where surprised fans entering the stadium nearly got hit. Santana has 17 home runs on the year.

OF Odubel Herrera was held out of the Phillies' starting lineup Wednesday. Herrera was pulled in the sixth inning of Tuesday's loss to Houston after he did not run out a dropped third strike. Herrera did make an appearance as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and struck out.

RHP Aaron Nola recorded a career-best 10 strikeouts Wednesday night. Nola has recorded at least seven strikeouts in each of his last seven starts. Nola has 60 strikeouts in that span after recording 47 in his first nine starts of the year.

LHP Jose Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake. Alvarez, who pitched one scoreless inning in the Angels 11-7 loss Tuesday night, made 44 relief appearances with the Angels and was 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA.

OF/2B Howie Kendrick left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning after getting hit on the left hand with a Mike Fiers pitch in the third inning. He was replaced by Cameron Perkins in left field.

2B Jose Altuve extended his career-best hitting streak to 18 games with a double in the first inning of Wednesday night's game. Altuve finished 2-for-4 and is now hitting .494 during 19 games in July.

OF Bradley Zimmer continued his hot hitting Wednesday, leading off the first inning with a home run, and adding an RBI double in the seventh inning. In the first two games of the series, Zimmer is 5-for-9, with a double, two home runs, including a grand slam, six RBIs, and two stolen bases. "We thought he could do it, but it's nice to see it. The way he plays center field, the way he runs the bases. This bodes well for us," manager Terry Francona said. "His baseball instincts are what really stand out to me," said OF Austin Jackson. "He catches balls he has no business catching."
