CF Byron Buxton remained on the DL on Wednesday as a result of migraine headaches he's been experiencing since Monday, the day he was eligible to come off the DL with a groin injury.

3B Miguel Sano was held out of the starting lineup for a second straight day after he was hit by a pitch from Dodgers reliever Josh Fields on Monday. He pinch-hit in the eighth inning on Tuesday and struck out.

C Anthony Recker was optioned to Triple-A Chattanooga two days after he was acquired in a trade that also brought LHP Jaime Garcia over from the Atlanta Braves

1B Joe Mauer went 1-for-4 and has hit safely in all 14 games against the Dodgers in his career, batting .529 in those games.

RHP Kyle Barraclough was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to July 25 with a right shoulder impingement. He has been one of the team's more reliable relievers this season, striking out 50 in 46 1/3 innings. Manager Don Mattingly first learned that Barraclough was have shoulder issues on Tuesday. "He said he's been feeling different stuff, but felt normal, and said he was bouncing back easily," Mattingly said. "So, didn't really become an issue."

2B Dee Gordon continued his streak of scoring the first run in each game of the series. The leadoff homer into the right-field seats on the first pitch from Yu Darvish was Gordon's first homer this season. Gordon led off the previous two games with a hit and was driven in. His last homer was Sept. 26, 2016. This was his fifth career leadoff home run.

OF Carlos Gomez, dealing with soreness on his left side, was initially given Wednesday off but came on to pinch hit in the sixth. "He has been battling it for a little while, which is typical this time of year," manager Jeff Banister said. Gomez stayed in the game in center.

RHP Jose Urena improved to 9-4 with his third win in the last four decisions. He worked five innings, giving up five runs on four hits and four walks.

RHP Yu Darvish might have pitched his final game for Texas on Wednesday in dropping to 6-9. He gave up two solo homers in the first inning, giving him a streak of five consecutive runs allowed via solo home runs. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on nine hits before leaving. Darvish admitted to hearing the noise surrounding him. "Yesterday, the day before the game, of course I thought about (trade rumors) a little bit," he said. "But today, going to the game, I was able to focus on just today's game."

3B Adrian Beltre inched closer Wednesday to 3,000 career hits with a solo home run in the fourth, an RBI double in a three-run sixth and another two-bagger in the seventh. The third baseman is just four hits away from the milestone. He also was ejected in the eighth by second-base umpire Gerry Davis for not standing in the on-deck circle. "He took away an at-bat from me," Beltre said. "I don't think that was necessary. I don't know what the hell happened. I don't understand what his problem was."

RHP Andrew Cashner (5-8, 3.64 ERA) is slated to make his 17th start of the season on Friday night in the opener of a three-game weekend set with the Orioles. He has quality starts in three straight games, going 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA. Cashner will be on extended five days' rest due to Thursday's off day. He picked up the victory in a 4-3 Texas win on July 22 at Tampa Bay, going six innings and giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. He is 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in two career starts against Baltimore, with the loss coming July 14 in a 3-1 setback on the road.

RF Stephen Piscotty (right groin strain) will start a rehab assignment Thursday night at Class A Peoria. Piscotty landed on the 10-day DL July 15 after leaving a game the night before in Pittsburgh; he left after making a throw from right field in the ninth inning. Injuries have colored the season for Piscotty, who is hitting just .236 with six homers and 31 RBIs in 69 games and has made two trips to the DL.

RHP Luke Weaver will be called up from Triple-A Memphis to start the opener of a four-game series Thursday night against Arizona. Weaver made two relief appearances for St. Louis last month, throwing three scoreless innings and recording a pair of strikeouts. In 13 starts this year at Memphis, Weaver has dominated the Pacific Coast League, going 9-1 with a 1.91 ERA.

1B Ian Desmond (right calf) was not in the Rockies' lineup Wednesday night after leaving Tuesday night's game before the bottom of the fourth inning. Desmond is batting .285 with five homers and 32 RBIs in 65 games. He has battled injuries all season, missing the first month with a fractured left hand and then sitting out nearly two weeks this month with a strained right calf.

RHP Tyler Chatwood (right calf strain) was activated from the 10-day DL to take Holland's spot on the roster. Chatwood was disabled on July 16 after failing to make it out of the first inning the night before against the New York Mets, allowing four runs on one hit and walking three in one-third of an inning. Chatwood has made 19 starts this year, going 6-11 with a 4.74 ERA.

RHP Greg Holland went on the paternity list Wednesday. Holland leads MLB with 31 saves this year, and he is 1-1 with a 1.73 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings. Opponents are batting just .168 against Holland, who has permitted just 21 hits. Left-handers Jake McGee and Chris Rusin are the only other Colorado pitchers to record a save this year.

CF Leury Garcia, out since June 15 with sprained finger on his left hand, was sent on a rehab assignment to AZL White Sox. He went 3-for-4 Wednesday with a homer and three RBIs.

OF Avisail Garcia had seen his batting average drop to .157 over the past 18 games but had experienced discomfort in his right hand in recent days. On Wednesday, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Garcia would be placed on the disabled list and miss a couple of weeks after an MRI on Wednesday showed a ligament strain in his right thumb. Garcia said Wednesday he felt a difference is how his hand was feeling, which prompted him to seek attention. "Hopefully, it's 10 days," Garcia said Wednesday. "It's not too serious. Let's see what happens."

RHP Jake Petricka was activated off the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday after being out since June 29 with right elbow strain. Petricka made five minor league rehab starts at Triple-A Charlotte. Petricka is 1-0 with a 9.28 ERA and 13 strikeouts in nine appearances with the White Sox this season. Petricka, who has dealt with nagging injuries over the last couple of seasons, said Wednesday he is ready to get back to the field. "It's a mental grind," Petricka said. "So if anything, I've learned a lot more about myself off the field than on it. Now, it's time to re-establish myself on the field."

RHP James Shields continues to be a workhorse, but one that remains a work in progress since coming back from injury. Shields, who surrendered five runs (three earned) in four-plus innings Wednesday night, pitched fewer than five innings for the second straight start and fourth time this season. Shields was cruising along until he allowed four runs in the fifth inning when the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out.
