OF Aaron Altherr continues to swing a hot bat and Phillies manager Pete Mackanin is going to have a hard time moving him out of the two hole anytime soon. Altherr went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 4-3 Phillies win Saturday night. He is slashing .379/.438/.621 in 32 plate appearances so far.

2B Cesar Hernandez went 2-for-5 Saturday with two runs scored. He scored the winning run in a 4-3, 10-inning Phillies win. Among Phillies regulars, Hernandez's .329 batting average leads the team.

RHP Clay Buchholz (forearm surgery) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday in a roster move to clear space for the newly-acquired INF/OF Ty Kelly.

INF/OF Ty Kelly was acquired by the Phillies Saturday from Toronto for cash considerations. Kelly is expected to join the Phillies Tuesday and provide a useful bench bat with his ability to get on base and play multiple positions.

RHP Jerad Eickhoff pitched five innings of one-run baseball while taking a no-decision in a 4-3 Phillies win Saturday night over Atlanta. Eickhoff struck out seven and walked two. He was done in by a high pitch count. The righty needed 98 pitches. The Braves fouled off 20 of his offerings. Still, he exited with Braves holding a 1-0 lead. The Phillies are not scoring runs right now for Eickhoff. They're averaging 1.75 runs per nine innings with Eickhoff pitching. Only three pitchers in baseball have worse support.

LHP Julio Urias gave up two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, this third minor league start this season, and he appears close to rejoining the parent Dodgers, who set the end of April as a possible recall date. "He's getting close," manager Dave Roberts said. "He's getting real close. We'll see." Urias struck out six and walked three while using 93 pitches. "Yesterday was the way it was supposed to look," Roberts said. "Really encouraging for us. He's right where he needs to be."

RHP Lance Lynn took another step forward Saturday, striking out seven over six innings of work in a 4-1 victory at Milwaukee. Lynn missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery but has struck out 20 in 23 1/3 innings of work this season. "I have confidence in that I'm healthy and again I can trust myself and my stuff," Lynn said. "When it's all said and done, I trust my stuff. I live and die with what I live and die with. I'm not scared of anything when it comes to all my pitches, but then again, I attack. It's a weird thing, but I'm back into being who I am the last two starts. It feels good. Just need to keep rolling."

SS Aledmys Diaz was supposed to get the night off Saturday to rest an nagging back but came in as a pinch-hitter in the seventh and broke a 1-1 tie with his fourth home run of the season. Diaz has appeared in 17 of St. Louis' 18 games this season and is batting .250 with four home runs and six RBIs. "I feel like every time I have the chance to play, I'm going to do it," Diaz said. "But sometimes you have to listen to the trainers and to Mike (Matheny) and take a day off. They say it's pretty early in the season and to make sure I can play the rest of the season."

OF Dexter Fowler was held out of the Cardinals' lineup Saturday at Milwaukee, still feeling discomfort in his heel that forced him out of Friday's game after just five innings. Manager Mike Matheny said Fowler could return Sunday but might get at least one more day off before seeing action again.

2B Jonathan Villar singled in four trips Saturday, giving him a hit in four straight games. More important than his first-inning single was the fact that none of his three other at-bats Saturday resulted in a strikeout. Villar leads the Brewers this season with 31 whiffs and has gotten off to a slow start at the plate, batting just .179 through the first 19 games.

RHP Chase Anderson did not earn a decision Saturday despite another strong start, this time against the Cardinals. Anderson struck out seven with just one walk over six innings of work. He gave up six hits -- including four doubles -- but limited the damage by allowing just one unearned run. He is 2-1 with a 1.13 ERA on the season, the best among Milwaukee starters.

OF Keon Broxton showed more signs of turning his season around Saturday. After snapping an 0-for-18 funk Friday night, Broxton responded Saturday with another base hit and reached on a fielder's choice. Broxton will get the bulk of the time in center field now that Kirk Nieuwenhuis was designated for assignment.

RHP Matt Garza threw a bullpen session Saturday as he prepares to make his 2017 debut Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. Garza was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right groin just before Opening Day but having thrown 87 pitches in his last rehab start, Garza will not be on a pitch limit Monday.

2B Dustin Pedroia is day-to-day with left knee/ankle issues suffered in Friday's game when Baltimore 3B Manny Machado slid into him. Manager John Farrell was still upset about the situation on Saturday but Pedroia kind of shook it off. "This isn't seventh grade, man," he said

CF Jackie Bradley Jr. hit his first homer of the season Saturday against the Orioles, a two-run shot that gave the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead. He just came off the disabled list on Friday (missed 12 games, knee sprain) and now has hits in 13 of the last 14 road games Boston has played in. "Obviously, with missing time, you just try to stay in a rhythm and put some good swings on some balls," Bradley said.

LHP Zach Britton (forearm) will be going to see a hand specialist on Monday. Manager Buck Showalter said Saturday that once that doctor clears him, then the Baltimore closer will start throwing once more.

RHP Steven Wright again found trouble against the Orioles on Saturday. He allowed eight runs in 1 1/3 innings versus the O's earlier this month and gave up four runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings on Saturday. Wright just seemed to lose control of his knuckler at times in the fourth when the Orioles knocked him out of the game with four runs on six hits. "It's one of those things. It's a grind. It's a long season. (The pitch) is not as unpredictable as it was last year before I got hurt," Wright said.

RHP Heath Hembree gave the Red Sox a lift, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings after RHP Steven Wright faltered in his start Saturday against the Orioles. Hembree struck out five and gave up just one hit and was able to keep the Red Sox in the game. "(He was) outstanding," Boston manager John Farrell said. "He gave us a chance."

LHP David Price (left elbow strain) was feeling good Saturday after throwing 30 pitches in a bullpen session on Friday, according to manager John Farrell. The skipper said they will see how Price is doing Sunday and then decide when he will throw next and on which day.

SS Xander Bogaerts returned to the lineup Saturday against the Orioles after missing Friday's game with a sore thumb. He batted leadoff with 2B Dustin Pedroia out and went 1-for-5 with a run scored despite the left thumb still bothering him and forcing him to use a pad when swinging the bat.
