Buchanan was optioned to Astros' minor league camp on Sunday.

Buchanan (1-2) took the loss in the 15th inning of Tuesday's marathon at Philadelphia, allowing a run on three hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts over 3.2 innings of relief.

Despite Tuesday's loss, Buchanan has pitched well as the long-man out of the Astros' bullpen thus far. In five relief appearances, he's only given up three runs in 10.2 innings.

Buchanan took no decision in Thursday's spot start against the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on five hits with no walks and three strikeouts over five innings.

Buchanan was called upon to start Thursday when scheduled starter Jarred Cosart was traded to Miami in a deadline deal. With Brad Peacock expected to rejoin the Astros' starting rotation soon, Buchanan will likely return to the long-man role out of the bullpen.
