Sampson will start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Brewers.

Friday's game was rained out but has been rescheduled as part of a Saturday day/night doubleheader. The only difference for Sampson is that he will now be opposing Wily Peralta rather than Matt Garza, as the Brewers have opted to keep their pitching order the same.

Sampson's start has been pushed back, with Friday's game against Milwaukee postponed due to rain.

The Reds and Brewers will play two Saturday make up for the rainout, and chances are, both Sampson and Matt Garza will simply move back to start one game of the twin bill.

Sampson did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 12-9 victory over the Brewers, surrendering seven hits, six runs (five earned) and two walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out three.

Sampson continued to look considerably overmatched at this point in his development. The rookie right-hander heavily labored on Saturday, throwing 97 pitches while not being able to get out of the fourth inning for the second time in his last three starts. Sampson's robust 1.79 wHIP has contributed heavily to his 6.43 ERA, and he has walked multiple batters in five out of his first six career starts. Whether the young right-hander gets a chance to try and improve in September or heads back to the minors for more seasoning remains to be seen.

Sampson took a no decision Monday against Detroit as he allowed five runs on nine hits over four innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Sampson had a 3.18 ERA after his first four appearances (three starts) but has turned in a pair of consecutive stinkers -- nine runs allowed in 7.1 innings with a 7:4 K:BB and 18 hits allowed -- to raise his ERA to 5.55. Sampson is just 24, but his 6.40 ERA in 168.2 innings at Triple-A since 2013 doesn't inspire confidence.

Sampson (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings against the Dodgers on Thursday. He walked three and struck out three in the win.

Sampson won his second straight start behind 10 runs of support and now has a 2-1 record with a 3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB ratio in 17 innings this season. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Royals.

Sampson picked up his first big league win Saturday against the Diamondbacks, holding them to one run on just four hits and three walks over six innings.

Sampson (1-1) was given an opportunity to join the Reds rotation following the Johnny Cueto trade, and he's made the most of his chance so far. He struck out more than a batter per inning at the Triple-A level with the Padres in 2014, so it's possible Sampson's 9.00 K/9 from his first 12 major league innings is sustainable. The 24-year-old consistently struggled with walks in the minors, but he has a chance to make a lasting impact with the Reds if he can minimize his control issues. Sampson will look to continue his early success when faces the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Sampson lasted five innings in his first big league start, giving up three runs on three hits (one homer, two doubles) and a walk while striking out six.

Because Sampson pitched in relief on Thursday, he was limited to only 79 pitches. He retired the first seven batters he faced Sunday before running into trouble in the third inning. "I feel OK about it," said Sampson. "I know there is always room to improve. I can do better [in] my next bullpen or whatever I'm doing. Just going to work on things and be more consistent as far as my breaking stuff." With Tony Cingrani, Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb all ramping up at Triple-A Louisville, Sampson might not be guaranteed more action, though he's tentatively slated to start Saturday at Arizona.

Sampson will start Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Despite working as a starter in the minors, Sampson pitched in relief his first time out for the Reds, tossing a scoreless frame with two strikeouts Thursday against the Pirates. He'll get an opportunity to do so Sunday, and while his numbers at Double-A Pensacola were impressive, he struggled mightily after a promotion to Triple-A Louisville. It's unlikely he will stick in the rotation for the long-term, but a good outing Sunday could make him a candidate.

Sampson pitched an inning in relief in Thursday's blowout win over the Pirates, striking out two.

Sampson was working as a starter at Triple-A Louisville, so it's still possible that he could get a chance to start for the Reds. That seems unlikely for Mike Leake's spot Sunday, however, given the short turnaround.

The Reds recalled Sampson from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.

Sampson struggled some with Triple-A Louisville this year, posting a 5.08 ERA over eight games, but the Reds still decided to give him a chance to show what he can do in the big leagues. He worked as a starter in the minors but figures to pitch in relief with the big club.

Sampson was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Sampson appeared in four spring training games for the Reds, scattering six hits and two earned runs over 8.0 cumulative innings. He struggled in Triple-A as a member of the Padres organization last season, compiling a 6.68 ERA working both as a starter and out of the bullpen.

Sampson was claimed by the Reds on Thursday.

Sampson, who was DFA's by the Padres on Dec. 29, spent last season at Triple-A El Paso, where he compiled a 6.68 ERA across 91.2 total innings. He worked both as a starter and reliever, and it remains to be seen where the Cincinnati organization sees him long-term.

Sampson was designated for assignment by the Padres on Monday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Sampson struggled in 2014, finishing the season with a 6.68 ERA and 1.74 WHIP with 94 strikeouts in 91.2 innings. He is no longer on the Padres' 40-man roster, moving him further away from big league contention.

Padres prospect right-handed pitcher Keyvius Sampson had his best outing of the season on Wednesday for Triple-A El Paso, striking out seven over seven innings, scattering two hits and two walks.

Sampson needed only 92 pitches to get through seven innings, and could see time with the Padres later in the summer. In all likelihood, Sampson is behind only El Paso teammate Burch Smith on the Padres minor league pitching depth chart. His ERA is 4.05 and his WHIP is 1.470, so he will need to continue pitching well to be considered for promotion.

The Padres made a big round of spring cuts on Thursday morning. Sampson posted some promising numbers last year in the minor leagues and could become a rotation option for the Friars at some point in 2014.
