INF/OF Tyler Ladendorf was recalled by the A's from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

INF Tyler Landendorf is a possible replacement on Oakland's active roster for 3B Danny Valencia, who is headed to the disabled list. Landendorf made Oakland's Opening Day roster last season but only played a total of 33 games in 2015 due to injuries. Ladendorf can be used at virtually all infield and outfield positions and is batting .240 in 12 games for Triple-A Nashville this season.

Ladendorf hasn't seen any at-bats recently because of a left wrist injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

It's unclear when exactly Ladendorf tweaked his wrist, but he hasn't taken an at-bat since Sept. 17. There's no indication of when he could hit again, so it's possible his season has come to an end.

Ladendorf has been added to Friday's starting lineup, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.

With Stephen Vogt scratched due to elbow soreness, Mark Canha will move to first base and Ladendorf will step in to man left field and bat eighth against left-hander Edgar Olmos. Ladendorf had one extra-base hit in 18 at-bats against lefties while with Triple-A Nashville this season.

The A's first wave of September callups included eight players, and Ladendorf was among them. Ladendorf missed a significant chunk of the season with an ankle injury, and he struggled after his return to Nashville in August, posting a .230/.273/.328 batting line over 14 games. He merely fills a middle-infield depth need for Oakland.

Ladendorf (ankle) was activated from the 60-day DL and optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

The 27-year-old did not fare particularly well on his rehab assignment, going 7-for-29 (.241 average) with eight strikeouts in eight games, which is not all that surprising given that he missed close to four months with the ankle injury. Ladendorf will look to do as much as he can in what remains of the minor league season in anticipation of a September callup.

Manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday that Ladendorf (ankle) is improving but is still not playing in minor league games, John Hickey of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Ladendorf has been on the shelf since May after undergoing ankle surgery, but it appears that he could begin a rehab assignment by mid-August. If Ladendorf continues to improve, he could be activated from the DL at some point in September.

Ladendorf is expected to start taking live batting practice soon, and he'll eventually head out on what figures to be a lengthy rehab assignment. He's still on track for an August return, although he won't necessarily have a significant role with the big-league club.

He is expected to miss a few months following ankle surgery in early-May. This move was necessary to clear a spot on Oakland's 40-man roster.

Ladendorf had a nice Major League debut on Wednesday night, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Ladendorf showed his speed with a triple to left center field for his first hit in the big leagues. He is currently serving as the A's utility infielder, but it is worth noting that he did move to left field late in the game last night. He will likely need an injury to an infielder to get enough at-bats to help fantasy squads.

Ladendorf has made the A's Opening Day roster, reports Jane Lee of MLB.com.

Ladendorf will serve as a utility infielder for the A's, backing up second base, shortstop and third base. It is possible he could be the player to go back to the minors when Josh Reddick returns from the DL on April 11th as that allows Ben Zobrist to return the infield full time. Ladendorf had a nice spring, hitting .318 with a .783 OPS in 66 at-bats.

With Josh Reddick (oblique) expected to miss the first few games of the season, Oakland wants a versatile player to temporarily step in. Of course, even if he does make the Opening Day roster, Ladendorf probably won't see regular at-bats and might only stay for a few days. While he posted a .297/.376/.407 slash line for Triple-A Sacramento last season, Ladendorf benefited from a .361 BABIP, and he served a 50-game suspension for PEDs. He also had just two home runs and three stolen bases in 78 games.
