Fri Apr 25 201408:54Kevin Gregg 'ready to go' when team calls
Kevin Gregg said Thursday that he's been pitching to college hitters near his home in Oregon to stay in shape and is "ready to go" once he gets an offer he likes.
Gregg said he's been in contact with several teams since last fall but has yet to get an offer that entices him. The reliever wants a guaranteed deal and is willing to work as a setup guy with games-finished incentives in his contract. While he might not be able to land a guaranteed late-inning role right away, a lot of teams could probably do worse than Gregg as a middle relief option. He saved 33 games while holding a 3.48 ERA with 56 strikeouts over 62 innings for the Cubs last season.

Wed Dec 11 201319:18Mets to meet with agent for Axford, Gregg
The Mets are meeting with the agent for John Axford and Kevin Gregg on Wednesday, according to MLB Network Radio's Jim Duquette.
Both players would be late-inning options for the Mets, Duquette says. The Mets are in the market for high-leverage relievers in the event their incumbent closer, Bobby Parnell, isn't ready for Opening Day. The 35-year-old Gregg hasn't drawn much interest this offseason but should land a gig somewhere after saving 33 games for the Cubs this past season.

Wed Sep 25 201318:33Kevin Gregg notches 33rd save
Back in the closer's role for some reason, Kevin Gregg gave up an unearned run but still picked up his 33rd save Wednesday against the Pirates.
Pedro Strop, who was announced last week as the Cubs' new closer, pitched a scoreless eighth for the hold. Gregg got the ninth in a three-run game for his first save since Sept. 13. He took losses in his previous two appearances.

Mon Sep 23 201323:12Kevin Gregg gives up homers, takes loss
Kevin Gregg took his sixth loss after giving up a ninth-inning homer in a tie game Monday against the Pirates.
Gregg was doing just fine as a closer, but now that he's out of the role, he's entering tie games and taking losses. He should no longer be on fantasy rosters anyway.

Sat Sep 21 201309:56Cubs decide against releasing Kevin Gregg
The Cubs have decided against releasing Kevin Gregg, with Theo Epstein noting that his apology has been accepted.
Chalk this one up as a big misunderstanding and an overreaction on Gregg's part. The 35-year-old hurler is still unlikely to see any save opportunities for the remainder of the season as the team wants to get a look at Pedro Strop in high-leverage situations in the ninth inning.

Fri Sep 20 201319:54Kevin Gregg apologizes for misunderstanding
Kevin Gregg apologized to Theo Epstein, Dale Sveum, the Cubs organization and to the members of the media in the press box on Friday, for voicing his displeasure on Friday.
Apparently, it was one big misunderstanding. Gregg though that he was being replaced as the team's closer, which irked the veteran right-hander after how well he's pitched this season. What they are actually doing, is using the last few games to get a look at Pedro Strop in the ninth inning to see how he responds, not simply booting Gregg out of the role. Gregg also noted that Epstein is a "smart man" and wouldn't have a knee-jerk reaction like Gregg did. We'll see how it plays out on Saturday, but it sounds like he may avoid the guillotine.

Fri Sep 20 201319:02Cubs considering releasing Kevin Gregg
The Cubs are considering releasing Kevin Gregg, after voicing his displeasure to the media after Friday's loss to the Braves.
Kevin Gregg complained to the media after the Cubs decided to go with Pedro Strop as their closer for the final week and a half of the season to see what they have. Theo Epstein said that he would sleep on the decision, but there's a chance that Gregg has thrown his last pitch in a Cubs uniform.

Fri Sep 20 201317:45Kevin Gregg gives up four runs in loss
Coming on in a tie game, Kevin Gregg gave up four runs after an intentional walk in the ninth to take his fifth loss Friday against the Braves.
The Cubs put Freddie Freeman on with a man on second and one out, setting up the double play. That never came, though. Gregg is expected to take a backseat to Pedro Strop for save chances the rest of the way. Strop, though, was taken out after retiring both batters he faced in the tie game today.

Sat Aug 31 201319:47Gregg earns 28th save as Cubs beat Phillies
Kevin Gregg collected his 28th save of the season Saturday in the Cubs' 4-3 defeat of the Phillies.
Gregg gave up a two-out single to Michael Young but got Jimmy Rollins to ground out to end the threat in the top of the ninth inning at Wrigley Field. The veteran righty has struggled with his command in the second half of this season but will remain valuable in fantasy leagues as long as he continues to get regular save opportunities.

Fri Aug 30 201317:37Kevin Gregg handed fourth loss
Kevin Gregg took his fourth loss after giving up a run in a tie game Friday against the Phillies.
Gregg's 3.23 ERA remains just fine, but his K/BB ratio has gone from 35/13 in 33 1/3 innings in the first half to 9/14 in 19 2/3 innings in the second. He's walking on very thin ice right now.

Wed Aug 28 201301:53Kevin Gregg picks up 27th save
Kevin Gregg bounced back from Sunday's blown save to protect a one-run lead against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
There's still time for Gregg to be traded, but it appears pretty likely that he'll finish out the season as the Cubs' closer. He's three saves away from reaching 30 for the third time in his career.

Sun Aug 25 201321:44Kevin Gregg suffers fifth blown save
Kevin Gregg suffered a blown save in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Padres.
Gregg allowed two hits and gave up the game-tying run on a wild pitch in 13th inning. It was a shaky outing from the 35-year-old closer, but won't impact his status as the Cubs' closer. Gregg has converted 26-of-32 save chances this season and has a 3.18 ERA over 51 innings.

Tue Aug 13 201316:56Gregg has 5.32 ERA in 21 games since June 22
Kevin Gregg owns a 5.32 ERA in 21 appearances since June 22.
Opposing batters have knocked Gregg silly over that stretch, posting a .286/.396/.500 slash line and 14/16 K/BB ratio over those 22 innings. For frame of reference, David Wright and his 5.6 WAR is slashing .309/.391/.512 this year. Gregg entered play on June 22 with a 0.77 ERA, a level of success he had no chance of sustaining. The veteran right-hander, who logged a 4.62 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over the past two seasons in Baltimore, has little chance of ending this season with an ERA lower than the 2.98 mark it currently sits at.

Wed Jul 31 201313:49Cubs could wait until August to deal Gregg
ESPN's Buster Olney writes that the Cubs could wait until the August waiver period to deal Kevin Gregg.
Gregg was looking like a decent trade chip for a while, but he has hit a wall recently. The Cubs could wait to see if a need develops somewhere down the road, but he only figures to fetch a lower level prospect anyway.

Wed Jul 31 201300:10Kevin Gregg knocked around in blown save
Kevin Gregg blew his fourth save of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers.
He allowed a pair of runs on three hits and a walk. After a surprisingly good start, Gregg has predictably fallen back, as he's been scored upon in eight of his last 17 appearances and has a 12/14 K/BB ratio over that time. He's still probably getting traded, but the Cubs won't get much in return.

Sun Jul 28 201319:41Gregg earns 22nd save of the year vs. Giants
Kevin Gregg worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 22nd save on Sunday against the Giants.
He struck out one and walked a batter. Gregg owns a nice 2.68 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, but has posted a dreadful 36/20 K/BB rate over 40 1/3 innings. Chicago is hoping to cash him in for a prospect or two in the next 72 hours. If that happens, Pedro Strop, who hasn't allowed a run as a Cub, would likely be moved to the ninth.

Sun Jul 28 201300:17Kevin Gregg works out of jam for save
Despite loading the bases in the ninth, Kevin Gregg earned his 21st save on Saturday.
Gregg gave up a single and back-to-back walks with one out before inducing a Tony Abreu 3-2-3 double play to end the 1-0 game. Gregg came on after Pedro Strop pitched a scoreless eighth, which earned him his first win as a Cub after Nate Schierholtz homered in the top of the ninth. Gregg is 21-for-24 saving games.

Sat Jul 27 201301:44Kevin Gregg nets 20th save
Kevin Gregg picked up his 20th save Friday as the Cubs edged the Giants 3-2.
The Cubs scored two runs on a Brandon Belt error in the top of the ninth, and Gregg made the 3-2 lead stand up from there. Gregg blew his previous save chance on Wednesday, but he's still 20-for-23 for the season. One figures that the Cubs would love to get a prospect in return for him by the trade deadline. If it happens, they can move on to Pedro Strop in the ninth.

Thu Jul 25 201302:19Gregg blows 3rd save of season vs. Snakes
Kevin Gregg blew his third save of the season by allowing a run on three hits and three walks on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
He required 40 pitches to complete the appearance and may need Thursday off, which might give James Russell or Pedro Strop a save chance in the next 24 hours. In the ninth, Gregg gave up two singles, a walk and a Cody Ross sacrifice fly that sent the game into extra-innings. In the tenth, Gregg loaded the bases and wriggled free from the jam. Gregg, who has allowed 10 runs over his last 13 appearances to spike his ERA from 0.77 to 2.89, is regressing right in front of our eyes.
