Germen was claimed off waivers by the Cubs on Friday.

Germen has now moved to his fourth team this offseason, starting with the Mets before being part of both the Yankees and then Rangers organizations. He now joins a Cubs bullpen that could offer him an opportunity at a roster spot out of spring training.

Germen was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Wednesday, Anthony Andro of Fox Sports Southwest reports.

Germen was recently acquired by the Rangers from the Yankees for cash considerations, but will no longer be a part of the club's 40-man roster to make space for the recently-acquired Carlos Corporan. Following a 2014 season in which he posted a 4.75 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and 14 walks in 30.1 innings with the Mets, he has now been designated for assignment three times in the offseason.

Germen was traded to the Rangers on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Germen was DFA'd last week to clear room on the 40-man for Chris Martin. The 27-year-old made 25 appearances for the Mets last season, posting a 4.75 ERA in 30.1 innings. Germen, who has had control issues in the past, figures to provide bullpen depth for the Rangers and could see time at Triple-A.

He will still likely compete for one of the team's final bullpen spots in the spring.

In 22.2 innings in the minors, Germen has posted a 2.38 ERA and a WHIP of 1.324. While with the team look for Germen to provide bullpen depth for New York.

Recalled earlier in the week for short-term bullpen depth, Germen gave up two runs on two hits (including a homer) in his lone appearance during his most recent stint with the big club. He'll head back down to Las Vegas with Bartolo Colon returning from the bereavement list, but Germen figures to get the call back when rosters expand Sept. 1.

Germen will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to Tuesday's game against the Athletics, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.

With Bartolo Colon placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move, long man Carlos Torres was appointed for a spot start Monday, leaving the bullpen somewhat thin. German will join the Mets to restore some of that depth, after posting 17 strikes and a microscopic 0.52 ERA over 17.1 innings at Las Vegas.
