Jason Hammel is dealing with a minor fingernail issue, so the Cubs want him to wait an extra day. Wada now matches up with Yordano Ventura, rather than Jeremy Guthrie. While Ventura has struggled this season, a matchup would Guthrie still would have been better for Wada's owners.

Wada gave up just one run on four hits across 5.1 innings in Monday's loss to Washington.

Wada pitched very well on Monday but earned the no decision as the Cubs offense struggled to score. He walked two batters and struck out six across 5.1 innings to bring his ERA to 2.70. Wada has been solid up to this point, and once the Cubs offense gets behind him, he could be tough to beat.

Wada struck out nine in 4.2 innings in his season debut, giving up two runs, four hits and a walk Wednesday against the Padres.

Wada opened the season on the disabled list with a left groin strain and made six rehab starts before starting in his first game of the season Wednesday. He impressed, striking out seven of the first nine Padres batters he faced. His only mistake was allowing a two-run homer to Justin Upton to straightaway center field to give the Padres a 2-1 lead with two outs in the fourth. Wada ran into more trouble in the fifth and left the game with two on and two outs, leaving him with a no-decision. He'll look to last longer in his next outing Monday against the Nationals.
