Wed Apr 29 201516:38Blanks starting at first base and hitting seventh Wednesday
Blanks is starting at first base and hitting seventh Wednesday.
The visiting Mariners will have Felix Hernandez on the mound, so Blanks is a bottom-of-the-barrel play in most formats Wednesday. With Mitch Moreland out two-to-three weeks, Blanks could start on a semi-regular basis at first base in the short term.
Tue Apr 28 201523:36Blanks will be added to Rangers' roster Wednesday
Blanks will be added to the Rangers' roster Wednesday, the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant reports.
With Mitch Moreland (elbow) out two-to-three weeks, the Rangers need another body to plug in at DH and first base on occasion. Blanks has some pop from the right side, with 30 career homers in 862 plate appearances, but he also has a career .234 average, and is rarely given the chance to play everyday. Texas will need to make a corresponding move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster Wednesday.
Mon Mar 23 201518:23Blanks reassigned to minor league camp Monday
Blanks was reassigned to minor league camp Monday.
Blanks signed on with the Rangers in December, but entered camp dealing with a left Achilles issue. He'll start the season in the minors, but if he can regain his health he could crack the big league roster at some point in the 2015 season.
Mon Mar 9 201512:36Blanks (Achilles) scheduled to play in first spring game Tuesday
Blanks (Achilles) is scheduled to play in his first spring game Tuesday, the Fort Worth Star Telegram's Stefan Stevenson reports.
He had issues with both of his Achilles tendons dating back to the end of last season, so it is great to see him ready to get into game action early in Cactus League action. The Rangers have a lot of competitors for time in left field, but nobody who really stands out as a strong option, so there is a chance that Blanks could make the team as a part-time player out of camp.
Tue Feb 10 201516:18Blanks making strides in recovery from left Achilles issue
Blanks has been making strides in his recovery from a left Achilles issue, FOX Sports Southwest reports.
The Rangers want Blanks to concentrate on his health, so they'll keep him out of the left-field mix early in sprig training and instead limit him to first base and DH. Blanks is a .244/.342/.409 career hitter against left-handed pitching but will need to prove the Achilles issue is behind him to have a chance at a short-end platoon role.
Mon Dec 15 201413:21Blanks has agreed to split contract with Rangers
Blanks has agreed to a split contract with the Rangers, Chris Cotillo reports.
If Blanks can recover in time for spring training, he could have a shot at making the major-league club with a strong showing. The 28-year-old hit well in a small sample last season, but with a regression-alert .395 BABIP. He should show some good power, but way too many strikeouts to reach a batting average viable for an everyday player at first base or designated hitter.
Tue Dec 2 201419:10The A's declined to tender Blanks (Achilles) contract
The A's declined to tender Blanks (Achilles) a contract.
The writing for this move had been on the wall for several days, as the A's designated Blanks for assignment last Friday. Blanks, 28, is a .244/.342/.409 career hitter against left-handed pitching and will likely to look to earn a short-end platoon role or bench position elsewhere.
Sat Nov 29 201411:08The A's designated Blanks for assignment Friday
The A's designated Blanks for assignment Friday.
A trade acquisition from the Padres in mid-May, Blanks hit .309/.409/.436 with two homers in 26 games with the A's before a bout of Achilles tendinitis derailed his season. With the team needing to clear room for several players following the Josh Donaldson trade to Toronto, Blanks and pitcher Josh Lindblom were both bumped from the 40-man roster, but the right-handed-swinging Blanks may very well get a chance to compete for a short-end platoon role with another club.
Sun Aug 24 201416:27Blanks (Achilles) transferred to 60-day DL on Sunday
Blanks (Achilles) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Blanks has already missed more than 60 days with the Achilles tendinitis, so the transaction won't do much to change his predicament. He remains confined to walking boot for at least the next week or two, after which he'll be able to begin taking part in more baseball-related activities.
Sat Aug 23 201418:36Blanks diagnosed with left Achilles tendinitis and there no time...
Blanks has been diagnosed with left Achilles tendinitis and there is no timetable for a return, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.
At this point it's safe to part ways with Blanks in most formats, as there's little over a month left, and he won't be playing everyday even if he is able to return this season.
Fri Aug 22 201419:11Blanks experiencing setback in rehab
Blanks is experiencing a setback in his rehab, and is now having problems with both feet, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.
Originally it was his calf that forced him to the 15-day DL, but the A's are now giving him an MRI on his feet to see what the new situation is. It's now looking like the soonest he could return to the A's would be sometime in September.
Thu Aug 7 201420:17Blanks (calf) expected to begin rehab assignment Sunday
Blanks (calf) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Sunday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Blanks ran the bases several times this week, and it appears the results were favorable enough to clear him to participate in rehab games. First base has been a bit of a revolving door for the Athletics this season, so Blanks has a slight chance to see some playing time after going 17-for-55 at the dish during his prior time with the team.
Mon Aug 4 201420:35Blanks (calf) scheduled to run bases Tuesday and Thursday and if...
Blanks (calf) is scheduled to run the bases Tuesday and Thursday and if that goes well, he will go on a rehab assignment shortly after, CSN California's Joe Stiglich reports.
It sounds like the A's could get Blanks back sometime in the next couple weeks, but he probably won't see everyday at-bats, as the A's are deep at every position, but he did post a .333 average with two home runs in 21 games with Oakland earlier this season.
Sun Aug 3 201414:22Blanks (calf) able to run at full speed Saturday
Blanks (calf) was able to run at full speed Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
With Blanks seemingly over the calf ailment that resulted in his placement on the DL, a rehab assignment could be in store, possibly as soon as Tuesday. Once he's healthy, Blanks could struggle to find at-bats in Oakland's crowded first base and outfield mix.
Wed Jul 23 201418:51Blanks (calf) 'doing better, a lot better'
Kyle Blanks said Wednesday his injured left calf is "doing better, a lot better."
Blanks is dealing with a slight tear in the calf, and he's been on the disabled list since June 23. A's manager Bob Melvin said Blanks is nearing a rehab assignment but is still probably at least a week away. A return in mid-August appears like the most likely scenario for the 27-year-old.

An MRI on Kyle Blanks' left calf has revealed a slight tear.
Blanks is eligible to return on July 8, but that won't happen. "He's gonna be a while," Athletics manager Bob Melvin said. There's no timetable for Blanks' return.

Sun Jun 29 201411:28Kyle Blanks (calf) hitting but yet to run
Kyle Blanks (calf) is swinging a bat but has yet to do any running.
Blanks has been out of commission for the last week due to a strained left calf. It's not clear when he'll be allowed to do any running, but obviously that will be the biggest test to determine when he might return.

Athletics placed 1B/OF/DH Kyle Blanks on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 23, with a strained left calf.
The injury has bothered Blanks for the past few days and now he'll get some extended rest. Josh Reddick has been activated from the disabled list in a corresponding roster move and will take his place on the active roster.

Sun Jun 22 201418:25Kyle Blanks removed with left calf strain
Kyle Blanks was removed from Sunday's contest against the Red Sox due to a strained left calf.
Blanks had been dealing with stiffness in that same calf which caused him to sit out of Saturday's game. It's likely that he'll need a day or two to rest and recuperate before rejoining the A's lineup.
