Angels acquired LHP Joe Thatcher and OF Tony Campana from the Diamondbacks in exchange for OF Zach Borenstein and RHP Joey Krehbiel.
The veteran southpaw makes for a nice addition to the Angels bullpen which was lacking in quality left-handed arms. He has done a nice job for the D'Backs this season, posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25/3 K/BB ratio over his 24 innings of work. Despite adding Thatcher and Jason Grilli this week, the Angels are rumored to still be in the market for further bullpen upgrades.

Sun Dec 1 201316:39Joe Thatcher unlikely to be non-tendered
Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca believes it's unlikely that Joe Thatcher will be non-tendered by the Diamondbacks.
Thatcher struggled mightily during his time with the Diamondbacks after a mid-season trade, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 7/6 K/BB ratio over 9 1/3 innings. He remains a reliable and effective option out of the bullpen however, and still just 32-years-old, should have plenty of good innings left in him.

Wed Jul 31 201309:12Thatcher more likely to go than Gregerson
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Padres are more likely to deal Joe Thatcher than Luke Gregerson.
Furthermore, Stark hears that the Padres are declining any offers for their outfielders. Finally back to form following shoulder issues, Thatcher has a 2.10 ERA and 29/4 K/BB ratio over 30 innings this season. Left-handed relievers have a lot of value in this market, so the Padres could fetch a nice prospect in return.

Mon Feb 20 201216:44Padres plan to limit Thatcher's workload
The Padres plan to limit Joe Thatcher's workload during the early days of camp.
Thatcher has begun the season on the disabled list in each of the past two years due to shoulder injuries (and even required surgery last May), so the hope is that the lighter workload will lead to less complications. "I've always gone to spring training thinking I had to impress everyone right away," said Thatcher. "And it's kind of against my nature to approach it any other way. But it's nice to have them know what they think I can do and be able to ease into it." If healthy, Thatcher should open the year as the Padres' primary left-handed specialist.
