Stauffer (5-2) picked up the relief win in extra innings on Friday against the Dodgers, as he pitched the 12th inning while allowing one hit with one strikeout.
The 32-year old Stauffer has found his niche as a reliever finally, but he is still giving up far too many walks and remains extremely hittable to batters which does not bode well for fantasy owners.
Mon Aug 18 201413:02Stauffer faltered Sunday at St
Stauffer faltered Sunday at St. Louis, surrendering two runs on three hits and one walk to go with two strikeouts in two frames.
In the fifth inning, Stauffer relieved starter Odrisamer Despaigne, setting down the side following a leadoff single. However, Stauffer wasn't as crisp in the sixth, when the Cardinals placed runners at second and third. With two outs, he gave up a two-run double to Matt Carpenter, bumping up the right-hander's ERA to 3.86 on the season. Expect Stauffer to continue pitching in low-leverage situations, especially if his walk rate, currently sitting at 4.04 BB/9, doesn't turn around.
Tue Jun 3 201402:17SP Stauffer doesn't even complete 3 innings
Tim Stauffer was chased after just 2 2/3 innings Monday, yielding two runs on four hits and two walks in a loss to the Pirates.
Stauffer was 2-0 with a 1.90 ERA early last week, but his fortunes, predictably, have changed abruptly. The right-hander was coming off one of the worst starts of his career, coughing up seven runs while recording just one out against the Snakes on Wednesday. Things went better this time around, but that's only by degrees -- he lasted just 71 pitches in Petco. Stauffer has allowed nine runs and secured only nine outs over his last two outings, but San Diego isn't sure it has anyone better to replace him. Stauffer hosts Washington this weekend.

Sat May 24 201401:49Tim Stauffer goes five scoreless in win
Making his first start since 2012, Tim Stauffer blanked the Cubs for five innings to win on Friday night.
Stauffer was better than he needed to be, as the Padres gave him eight runs of support. He probably shouldn't get used to that, though. In truth, he was just thrilled to be back in the rotation in the first place. If he continues to pitch well while Robbie Erlin is out, he should get a chance to stick. He's not a great mixed-league pickup yet, but he should continue to have value in NL-only leagues.

Thu May 22 201418:43Tim Stauffer to start on Friday
Tim Stauffer will start on Friday versus the Cubs.
He's filling in for the injured Robbie Erlin (elbow). Stauffer hasn't started a game in the majors since 2012, so he'll obviously be on a pitch count. It's possible he'll be given additional turns in the rotation if he pitches well.

Mon Dec 2 201323:51Tim Stauffer avoids arbitration with Padres
Padres avoided arbitration with RHP Tim Stauffer by agreeing to a one-year, $1.6 million contract.
After missing nearly all of 2012 with an elbow injury, Stauffer pitched well out of the bullpen for the Padres in 2013, posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 43 appearances. It's possible he'll be given another shot to start in 2014, though San Diego has a bevy of rotation options.

Tim Stauffer has been told that he will begin the season with Triple-A Tucson.
Stauffer owns an ugly 8.74 ERA over six appearances this spring, but his 11/2 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings provides reason for encouragement. He also hasn't had any issues with his elbow. Tim Stauffer was knocked around again Wednesday, yielding three runs on five hits and a walk over five innings against the Giants.
He did strike out four but needed 52 pitches to navigate through the three frames. Stauffer's elbow hasn't been an issue this spring, but he now has a 10.61 ERA over 9 1/3 innings. He does, however, have a nice 10/2 K/BB ratio. It's possible the Padres will ease him into things, but he should be ready to join the rotation sometime in April.

Fri Mar 15 201319:15Tim Stauffer pounded in loss to Royals
Tim Stauffer continued his early spring struggles in Friday's loss to the Royals, surrendering four runs on four hits in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work.
The results haven't been anything to write home about thus far, but the most important thing to note is Stauffer's health. He's progressing nicely from an elbow operation that he underwent in August, and should be able to rejoin the rotation at some point in the first month of the season.
