Thu Jun 30 201101:49Evans' 5-for-5 day ups hit streak to 19 games
Nick Evans exploded with a 5-for-5 performance Wednesday for Triple-A Buffalo, extending his hitting streak to 19 games.
Evans is batting a mind-blowing 38-for-74 (.513) during the streak, and is now hitting .328 in the minors this season. The versatile 25-year-old fared poorly in an earlier call-up, but remains a candidate for another promotion later this season, particularly if the Mets end up trading one or more of their current starters.

Tue May 17 201117:50Mets recall INF/OF Evans from Triple-A
Mets recalled INF/OF Nick Evans from Triple-A Buffalo.
He'll take the place of the injured David Wright on the active roster. Evans, 25, has put together a lousy .248/.285/.383 batting line over his first 151 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season, but was batting .316 (18-for-57) this month. He'll give the Mets a righty bat off the bench.

Tue May 17 201108:56Mets to recall Nick Evans
The Mets are expected to recall Nick Evans from Triple-A Buffalo at some point Tuesday.
Evans will serve as a utility infielder while David Wright recovers from a small stress fracture in his back. Justin Turner will play third base most nights with Jose Reyes at shortstop, Ruben Tejada at second and Daniel Murphy at first. That infield will have real trouble producing runs.

Wed Mar 30 201114:52Evans clears waivers; headed to Triple-A
Nick Evans has cleared waivers and will head to Triple-A Buffalo.
It's very surprising that Evans passed through waivers, as his right-handed bat could have been useful for a number of teams. Though he's been vastly underutilized during his time with the Mets, the 24-year-old could prove valuable at some point this season.

Thu Mar 24 201116:09Mets' Evans goes 3-for-4
Nick Evans went 3-for-4 with a double Thursday against the Cardinals.
If Evans, who is out of options, makes the Mets, it would probably just be as a replacement while Carlos Beltran is on the disabled list. He's hitting .339 with six doubles this spring, so another team may grab him if he's placed on waivers. He's no future regular, but he's smacked lefties around during his limited time in the majors.

Tue Feb 8 201109:44Nick Evans out of minor league options
Nick Evans is out of minor league options.
In other words, he can no longer be optioned off the big league roster without first passing through waivers. That means that Evans will either have to win a job this spring or risk his tenure with the Mets coming to an end. The 25-year-old outfielder is hoping to land a backup outfield gig.

Tue Nov 30 201014:58Evans swinging a bat without pain
Nick Evans (shoulder) has begun swinging a bat without pain.
Evans is currently recovering from a posterior labral tear of his left non-throwing shoulder suffered at the end of the season. He recently underwent an MRI which revealed no change and the team announced Tuesday that he should resume baseball activities as tolerated. Evans will enter spring training out of options, but perhaps the new regime will give the 24-year-old a legitimate chance to make the roster.

Fri Oct 1 201011:54MRI on Nick Evans (shoulder) comes back clean
An MRI on Nick Evans' left shoulder Thursday did not show any structural damage.
Evans exited Wednesday's doubleheader against the Brewers with a mild shoulder sprain. Mets manager Jerry Manuel hasn't ruled out the possibility that Evans could play during the final three games of the season. The 24-year-old is batting .333 in 33 at-bats this season. He will go into spring training next season out of options.

Sun Sep 5 201011:45Evans summoned from Triple-A
Mets recalled OF Nick Evans from Triple-A Buffalo.
Evans got two at-bats in an earlier stint with the big club. He's had a nice season in the minors, hitting a combined .300 with 23 homers and 88 RBI between Double- and Triple-A. He'll give the team some depth in the outfield and he's also capable of playing first base.
Fri Jul 9 201015:57Mets call up 1B Evans
Mets recalled first baseman-outfielder Nick Evans from Double-A Binghamton.
Likely disappointed at being stuck back in Double-A, Evans struggled some during May and June. However, he was hot of late and was hitting .290/.363/.518 overall. He can help the Mets against left-handers if given the chance. Still, his stay will probably be short.
Fri Apr 9 201002:24Mets' Evans doubles for Binghamton
Playing for Double-A Binghamton, Nick Evans doubled in two-at-bats before Thursday's game was rained out.
One has to feel for Nick. The 24-year-old has hit .320/.382/.490 in 100 at-bats against lefties for the Mets the last two years, yet he just can't catch a break, even with all of the club's injuries. Not only did the team once again decline to carry him out of spring training, but he wasn't even placed on the Triple-A roster, since the Mets want Ike Davis playing first base on a regular basis for Buffalo. Fortunately, he'll be able to play his way into more opportunities given his relative youth. The same can't necessarily be said for the equally unlucky Chris Carter.
