Mon Dec 2 201317:01Mets non-tender INF/OF Jordany Valdespin
Mets non-tendered INF/OF Jordany Valdespin.
Valdespin wasn't even arbitration-eligible yet, but the Mets decided that he wasn't worth a 40-man roster spot after he batted just .188/.250/.316 batting line in 144 plate appearances this year and served a 50-game PED suspension. The 25-year-old has had his share of makeup issues early on in his career, but he should find a new opportunity elsewhere.

Tue Sep 24 201314:49Mets reinstate Jordany Valdespin
Mets reinstated INF/OF Jordany Valdespin; assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.
Valdespin has completed his 50-game suspension for his ties to Biogenesis. He will not play again with the Mets this season and there's a good chance he could be removed from the 40-man roster this winter.

Mon Aug 5 201312:56Mets' Valdespin suspended 50 games for PEDs
Jordany Valdespin has accepted a 50-game PED suspension from MLB.
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal had the information first. Valdespin was one of the players who purchased performance-enhancing drugs from the Biogenesis clinic, though his name wasn't known publicly until Monday. The 25-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas last month and will end his season with a weak .188/.250/.316 batting line in 144 plate appearances with the Mets. He has likely worn out his welcome in Queens.

Fri Aug 2 201319:21Jordany Valdespin suspended for role in brawl
Jordany Valdespin was issued a three-game suspension at Triple-A Las Vegas for his role in a bench-clearing incident on Monday.
Valdespin, who has had plenty of immaturity and insubordination issues in the past, was showboating after homering in the night-cap of a doubleheader. Later in the game, the opposing pitcher threw at him, hitting Valdespin in the hand. Valdespin's teammate retaliated by throwing at Grant Green the following inning, and a bench-clearing incident led to shoving and screaming, with Valdespin right in the middle of it.

Sat Jun 15 201316:55Jordany Valdespin has RBI single in loss
Jordany Valdespin had an RBI single Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.
His single in the bottom of the eighth inning broke an 0-for-15 streak. Valdespin is getting a chance to fill in at second base now that Daniel Murphy has taken over for the demoted Ike Davis at first base, but his audition doesn't figure to be a long one if he doesn't produce. However, he has enough pop and speed to be interesting in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri May 10 201322:20Valdespin homers in loss to Pirates
Jordany Valdespin smacked a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Pirates.
It wasn't a pitch-hit home run this time, as Valdespin entered the game in the ninth inning at second base, but he continues to prove useful off the bench. Unfortunately, he has a weak .234/.280/.277 batting line in games he has started this season.

Wed Apr 24 201323:28Valdespin delivers walk-off slam vs. Dodgers
Jordany Valdespin hit a walk-off grand slam to help the Mets top the Dodgers 7-3 on Wednesday.
A simple single would have done just fine, but the 25-year-old obviously has a flair for the dramatic. The homer, Valdespin's first of the year, came after he entered the game for Juan Lagares in the eighth inning. Valdespin is now hitting .286 with three steals on the season and is a player to keep an eye on in deep mixed leagues.

Wed Apr 10 201315:53Valdespin starting in center field Wednesday
Jordany Valdespin will play center field and bat leadoff Wednesday against the Phillies.
The Mets have had a different leadoff hitter for each game in the series. With Collin Cowgill and Kirk Nieuwenhuis also in the mix for playing time in center field, it will likely take some time before Mets manager Terry Collins settles on a steady lineup. Mike Baxter is starting in right field on Wednesday while Marlon Byrd is taking a seat.

Fri Mar 22 201322:15Valdespin triples in win over Marlins
Jordany Valdespin tripled and scored a run in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Marlins on Friday night.
Valdespin tripled to lead off the game and came around to score on an Andrew Brown triple. The 25-year-old is hitting .347 (17-for-49) with four homers this spring and has played himself into consideration to be a regular part of the starting lineup. While he offers little in the way of patience, Mets manager Terry Collins may bat him leadoff on some days.

Sun Mar 17 201316:12Jordany Valdespin goes 2-for-2
Jordany Valdespin had two of the Mets' three hits and walked Sunday against the Braves.
Valdespin upped his average to .378. He certainly should have a roster spot clinched, given the struggles of the Mets' outfielders. The more interesting decision will be whether Terry Collins decides to give him a starting job in right or center. The one issue there is that he's needed at second for the moment with Daniel Murphy becoming more questionable for Opening Day.

Mon Mar 11 201314:29Jordany Valdespin leaves after HBP
Jordany Valdespin exited Monday's game after being hit in the groin area by a Justin Verlander fastball.
Ouch. Valdespin was squaring to bunt and just couldn't get out of the way in time. He eventually got to his feet but was lifted for a pinch-runner. The Mets should update his status later Monday.

Fri Mar 8 201316:46Jordany Valdespin homers against Tigers
Jordany Valdespin made his first outfield start Friday and hit his second homer against the Tigers.
Valdespin had been playing mostly second base this spring, but he should still be in the running for a starting spot in the outfield. He's 8-for-24 with two homers so far.

Sat Feb 16 201317:45Mets want to see Valdespin play the infield
After playing in the outfield during the Domincan Winter League, Jordany Valdespin's chances of making the Mets Opening Day roster could depend on his ability to play the infield.
The Mets know that he's capable of playing in the outfield, but want to see Valdespin prove he can handle multiple infield positions defensively as well. He has also had issues with immaturity and insubordination during his young career, which could hurt his chances of starting the season in the major leagues.

Tue Dec 4 201208:31Jordany Valdespin suspended in Winter Ball
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports that Jordany Valdespin was suspended from playing for his Dominican Winter Ball team due to insubordination.
The suspension kept him out of action for two weeks. Valdespin's maturity has been an issue at times, so the Mets likely aren't thrilled to hear about his latest misstep. The 24-year-old batted .241/.286/.424 with eight home runs, 26 RBI and a .710 OPS in 94 games with the Mets this past season.

Valdespin was sent down to the minors last week, but he's eligible to return now that Buffalo's season is over. The 24-year-old is hitting .242 with eight home runs, 26 RBI and seven stolen bases in 75 games with the Mets this season. He probably won't play everyday, but should be owned in NL-only leagues.

Sun Aug 12 201223:00Jordany Valdespin goes 2-for-4, homers
Jordany Valdespin went 2-for-4 and hit his eighth homer against the Braves on Sunday night.
Valdespin struck out in his other two at-bats, leaving him with a 29/4 K/BB rtio through 140 at-bats. Still, he's showed nice pop and maintained a decent average so far. It's going to be interesting to see what the Mets do with him next year. He's probably not going to hit enough to be a quality starter in an outfield corner, but he might fit in at second base or in center field.
