DH Billy Butler, injured in a fight with teammate Danny Valencia on Friday, was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Monday.Before the game, the A's announced that Valencia and Butler were fined, but not suspended, for their scuffle.

DH Billy Butler sat out with an injury he sustained in an altercation with teammate Danny Valencia, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.Valencia told the Chronicle after the Athletics' 4-2 loss to the White Sox on Sunday, "No comment. What happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse." Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Butler was out because of nausea and vomiting, adding that the player did not have the flu. The Chronicle noted that nausea and vomiting can be symptoms of a concussion. In 79 games this season, Butler is hitting .286 with a .338 on-base percentage, a .419 slugging percentage, four homers and 30 RBIs.

DH Billy Butler is hitting .400 with two home runs, eight RBIs and seven multiple hit games in his last 14 games, though he went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter in Oakland's 6-2 loss to Texas on Wednesday. Despite the hot streak, Butler finished the Texas series 1-for-8 with an RBI and a walk, and he grounded into two double plays.

He had his fourth three-hit game of the season. "He's been swinging great," A's manager Bob Melvin said of Butler. "That's why I'm trying to get him there against as many righties as I can. He's squaring it up, using the whole field. A lot of confidence. His batting practices are good. He's doing a nice job."

DH Billy Butler was not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Angels despite having a five-game hitting streak. He entered the game after DH Khris Davis was ejected in the eighth inning for arguing a strike call, then singled in the Athletics' two-run, game-winning rally in the 10th. During his hitting streak, now at six games, he is batting .579 (11-for-19). He has two homers in his past six games after hitting just two homers all season before then. His career low in homers is eight, which he hit in 92 games during his rookie season in 2007.

DH Billy Butler, during his at-bat in the top of the fourth inning, got into a heated argument with Indians catcher Chris Gimenez. Butler objected to Gimenez lobbying umpire Tripp Gibson for a bigger strike zone. "It was a professional disagreement," Butler said with a smile. "Tempers were flaring. We're both competitive. I had an issue with him and he had an issue with me."

OF Brett Eibner was acquired Saturday by the A's in a trade with Kansas City for OF Billy Burns. "Eibner has some power and some speed. I know for us to make this deal we had to like him a lot," A's manager Bob Melvin said. In 26 games with the Royals this season, Eibner hit .231 with three home runs and 10 RBIs. In 50 games with Triple-A Omaha, Eibner batted .288 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has been assigned to the A's Triple-A Nashville affiliate.

DH Billy Butler came into Friday's game hitting .221 against right-handed pitchers, but he was in the lineup against Indians RHP Trevor Bauer, against whom Butler has had success. Sure enough, Butler was 2-for-2 against Bauer to raise his career average vs. Bauer to .462 (6-for-13).

He plays primarily against left-handers but hit his home run off RHP Erasmo Ramirez. "It's big, it's big for me," Butler said. "I've got all the confidence in the world no matter (if it's) a righty or lefty up there. I've shown it in my career. I can come through in those situations day in and day out. If you get opportunities, do it. It was big for me."

DH Billy Butler ended Santana's bid for a perfect game with a two-out double off the left-field wall in the fifth inning. Butler finished the game 1-for-3 and is now hitting .248 this season. He upped his career average against Minnesota to .305.

1B Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored once Wednesday in Oakland's 5-1 victory against Minnesota. Butler was also intentionally walked in the fifth inning. In his last 15 games, Butler is batting .297 (11-for-37) with nine RBIs. He hit .186 with three RBIs in his first 18 games. "The approach is getting better," Butler said. "Mechanics are getting better, and I feel good."

1B/DH Billy Butler got a rare start against a right-handed pitcher Monday against Minnesota, serving as Oakland's designated hitter and facing RHP Ervin Santana. A's manager Bob Melvin said he liked Butler's career numbers against Santana. Butler entered the game with five home runs in 34 career at-bats vs. Santana. Melvin said he also wanted to give CF Billy Burns a day off. LF Khris Davis has been getting many of his starts at DH against right-handers, but he was in left field Monday. Butler went 0-for-3 with a walk and grounded into a double play. He's batting .221.

DH Billy Butler came through with his second big hit in two days Sunday, blooping a two-run, pinch-hit single to cap a three-run rally that helped produce Oakland's second consecutive win. Butler ignited a five-run inning with a two-run single as the starting first baseman in Saturday's win. This time, he was held out of the starting lineup until manager Bob Melvin found a choice spot against a left-handed pitcher, and that came in the sixth inning. Butler is now hitting .293 (12-for-41) against lefties this season.

1B Billy Butler hit his first home run of the season in Saturday's win over Detroit. The homer snapped a 29-game drought to open the season, the worst of his career. He previously had a 27-gamer to start the 2014 season. Butler's homer came off a left-handed pitcher, but his two-run single in the game-breaking sixth inning came against a righty, just his fifth hit this season in 33 at-bats against a right-hander (.152).

INF Billy Butler has 37 official at bats against Astros' Doug Fister, the most of any A's player. He hits .297 against Fister, with five RBIs. Butler has yet to play in the series, but Sunday seems like his best chance.

DH/1B Billy Butler played first base for the first time Saturday in the 9-3 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays and was 1-for-4 in a lineup that was adjusted to face Toronto LHP J.A. Happ. He did some pre-game work at first base with infield coach Ron Washington.

Now it appears as if he will play primarily against left-handed pitchers. Butler went 0-for-4 and hit into a double play with two runners on base in the first inning of a 5-4 loss to the Angels.

DH Billy Butler hit a career-low .251 with 15 homers and 65 RBIs last season, his first with Oakland. In 2012, Butler hit .313 with 29 home runs and 107 RBIs for Kansas City. The A's are hoping for a bounce-back year.

Butler is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels.

Butler will take a day off from duties as the designated hitter after a long stretch of days in the role. Brett Lawrie will take over that role Wednesday, with Eric Sogard entering the lineup at second base and batting seventh.
