Manager Ned Yost reiterated Thursday that Hochevar is likely to start the season on the DL, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
This news is nothing new, as it only furthers the notion that Hochevar will need a couple more weeks to fully recover from his elbow injury. "Odds are, he's going to start the year on the DL," Yost said. "But we haven't cemented that decision." Yost is still leaving the door open for Hochevar to start the season on the roster, but at this point that still seems unlikely.

Hochevar (elbow) is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Wed Mar 4 201512:49Hochevar's elbow felt good following throwing session Tuesday
Hochevar's elbow felt good following a throwing session Tuesday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
Hochevar's injury could carry over into the regular season, but it appears he is making progress towards his return. Manager Ned Yost indicated that Hochevar's return date would likely come soon after the beginning of the season at the latest. With the latest progress, it's still conceivable he'll be ready for Opening Day, though a timetable should become more clear in the future.
Mon Mar 2 201514:04Hochevar (elbow) could start year on DL
Hochevar (elbow) could start the year on the DL, the Kansas City Star's Andy McCullough reports.
Ned Yost said that if Hochevar is not ready for the start of the season, he should be ready soon after, so we should see him pitching out of the Royals bullpen by mid-to-late April at the latest. He could be the next excellent Royals reliever, but Hochevar will only offer strong ratios and strikeouts, given the list of names ahead of him in the pecking order for saves.
Wed Dec 3 201409:26Hochevar re-signed with Royals on two-year
Hochevar re-signed with the Royals on a two-year, $10 million contract Wednesday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
With the Royals facing the threat of losing one of their stud relievers (Greg Holland, Wade Davis) due to their escalating cost, the team decided to buy low in re-signing Hochevar, who missed all of 2014 following Tommy John surgery. The former No. 1 overall pick had been sensational upon converting to relief the season prior, however, contributing a 1.92 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 82 strikeouts in 70.1 innings. He's expected to be ready to pitch around the start of spring training.

Hochevar (elbow) played catch for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in March, and hopes to pitch off a mound by January, Andy McCullough of The Kansas City Star reports.
Hochevar has been sidelined for all of 2014 after he tore his UCL in March, but he is hopeful that he'll be ready by the beginning of the 2015 season. Throwing is an encouraging first step, but he has a long way to go in rehabbing to be able to return by April.

Luke Hochevar (elbow) hopes to resume throwing in September.
Hochevar underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in mid-March. The 30-year-old setup man might be ready for Opening Day 2015. He had a fantastic 2013, posting a 1.92 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 82/17 K/BB ratio in 70 1/3 innings.

Sat Mar 29 201417:25Hochevar (elbow) sent to 15-day DL by Royals
Royals placed RHP Luke Hochevar on the 15-day disabled list after undergoing Tommy John surgery on March 16.
Hochevar is out for the year, so the DL move is just a formality. He'll likely be moved to the 60-day disabled list at some point later this season. Hochevar is aiming to be back sometime shortly after the start of the 2015 season.

Luke Hochevar will undergo his Tommy John surgery on Tuesday.

Fri Mar 7 201414:08Luke Hochevar to undergo Tommy John surgery
Royals manager Ned Yost announced Friday that Luke Hochevar will undergo Tommy John surgery.
It's unfortunate but also the right decision, as Hochevar had little chance of successfully pitching through a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. The Royals' bullpen is deep, but losing Hochevar hurts after he dominated in relief last year with a 1.92 ERA while striking out 82 over 70 1/3 innings. It's also poor timing for the pitcher, as Hochevar will be a free agent this winter. He'll now likely have to settle for an incentive-laden, one-year deal.

Fri Mar 7 201410:55TJ surgery likely inevitable for Hochevar
Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that Royals manager Ned Yost on Friday sounded "more resigned" to Luke Hochevar needing Tommy John surgery.
Hochevar is dealing with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament and was set to receive a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday. The initial thought was that he'd rehab it and attempt to pitch through it, which would surely be the Royals' preference since he's a free agent after this season. However, having the operation now would give Hochevar a shot to be ready for most, if not all, of next season.

Luke Hochevar will receive a second opinion on his right elbow Thursday from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles.
Hochevar was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament and has been shut down for at least two weeks. It looks like he'll attempt to rehab the injury before considering the possibility of Tommy John surgery, but he's also going to get another opinion on his injury.

Fri Jan 17 201413:16Luke Hochevar gets $5.21 million from KC
Royals avoided arbitration with RHP Luke Hochevar by agreeing to a one-year, $5.21 million contract.
Hochevar, who was arbitration-eligible for a final time, can also earn an additional $400,000 based on games finished or started. The right-hander thrived in a full-time move to the bullpen in 2013, holding a 1.92 ERA while striking out 82 over 70 1/3 innings.

Mon Dec 9 201316:18Hochevar, Davis to get looks in rotation
Royals manager Ned Yost said Monday that Luke Hochevar and Wade Davis will get long looks for the final two rotation spots during spring training.
Of course, that's assuming the Royals don't add any more starters this winter. Hochevar enjoyed great success out of the bullpen this past season while Davis really struggled as a starter, so it's hardly an ideal scenario. Yost acknowledged that things could change if Danny Duffy, Yordano Ventura or Kyle Zimmer are "lights out" in the spring.

Luke Hochevar picked up second save after allowing one run in 1 1/3 innings against the Red Sox on Thursday.
It was 3-0 after 7 1/2 and Greg Holland was surely on the way end, but the Royals scored twice in the bottom of the eighth and manager Ned Yost decided to stick with Hochevar. Hochevar went on to give up a run in the ninth, getting Holland active again, but he then induced a game-ending double-play ball from Mike Napoli.

Tue Jul 23 201319:21Luke Hochevar drawing interest from Boston
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Red Sox have been scouting Luke Hochevar.
He notes that the Sox "have not engaged in trade discussions with the Royals" at this point. Still, it's not a surprise that they're interest, as Boston is on the lookout for relief help and Hochevar has thrived in a bullpen role, posting a 2.00 ERA and 38/10 K/BB ratio over 36 frames. He's making $4.65 million this season before hitting free agency this winter.

Thu Jul 4 201318:14Luke Hochevar will be used as setup man
Royals manager Ned Yost said that Luke Hochevar is "going to get the opportunity" to prove he can be the team's setup man.
The Royals thought they had an elite setup man coming into the year in Kelvin Herrera, but he's struggled so badly that he's been sent down twice. Aaron Crow has also been less than reliable, clearing the way for Hochevar to get a shot. The former starter has taken well to a relief role, posting a 2.16 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 35/9 K/BB ratio over 33 1/3 innings.
