Sun Sep 19 202108:32Adalberto Mondesi Tallies Two Hits, Swipes A BagAdalberto MondesiSSRoyalsFree Agent
Kansas City Royals shortstop/third baseman Adalberto Mondesi helped the team defeat the Seattle Mariners 8-1 on Saturday. He went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored. It was his second consecutive two-hit game. Mondesi had appeared in just 10 games this year before returning from the injured list at the start of September. He's provided solid fantasy value for any fantasy manager who waited on him or wisely swiped him off waivers. He's stolen nine bases over 13 games this month while also adding two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs.

Sun Sep 19 202108:08Jeimer Candelario Hits Three-Run Homer On SaturdayJeimer Candelario3BCubsFree Agent
Detroit Tigers third baseman Jeimer Candelario had the biggest hit in the game in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. He went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk. He has now homered in two of his last three games and he has six home runs so far in September. The 27-year-old has done some good contact hitting this year with a .273 average over 139 games. However, he only had 10 home runs on the year before the calendar turned to September. He could be a much more valuable fantasy asset if he provided more consistent power to go along with his solid batting average. He's worth a look for fantasy managers in need of a reliable hitter down the stretch.

Sun Sep 19 202106:37Michael Brantley Set To Begin Baseball ActivitiesMichael BrantleyCF/LFIndiansLas Vegas Giants
Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley (knee) will begin baseball activities Sunday. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with right knee discomfort last Wednesday. The 34-year-old missed over a week with a sore knee but wasn't put on the injured list until Wednesday. He is eligible to return next week, but the Astros will monitor the outfielder to see how his knee responds during baseball activities. Brantley is considered day-to-day. He slashed .315/.367/.441 over 116 games before the injury. Chas McCormick will continue to handle center field duties while Brantley is sidelined. McCormick can be used as a streamer in deep-leagues after hitting .235 (4-for-17) with a home run, five RBI, and six strikeouts over his last seven contests.

He remained in the game but was eventually replaced by Jackie Bradley Jr. in the top of the fifth inning. Cain went 0-for-1 with a walk before exiting. The severity of his hip injury is unknown at this time and he's considered day-to-day. Bradley Jr. would see an uptick in playing time if Cain were to miss any games.

Sun Sep 19 202101:29Patrick Corbin Returns To Losing Ways SaturdayPatrick CorbinSPDiamondbacksTexas BigSticks
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Patrick Corbin allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four innings against the Colorado Rockies Saturday. This resulted in his 15th loss of the year. Corbin had had success working with catcher Alex Avila over his previous two outings, each of which resulted in a quality start, but hopefully no fantasy managers bought in for this one. Corbin's 6.11 ERA tells the whole story of his dreadful season.

Sat Sep 18 202123:29Trevor Story Goes Deep In Saturday's WinTrevor StorySSRockiesFree Agent
Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer in a 6-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Story swatted his 23rd home run of the season off Patrick Corbin in the fourth inning. It was a three-run shot and his only hit of the ball game. The 28-year-old shortstop is now slashing .247/.324/.479 with 23 home runs, 72 RBI, and 18 stolen bases over 482 at-bats on the year. Those are decent overall numbers but they're underwhelming considering where Story was selected in fantasy drafts.

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien launched his 40th homer of the season on Saturday, helping his club defeat the Twins 6-2. His solo shot off Bailey Ober in the fourth got the scoring started for his club in what became a four-run frame, although it was his only hit of the contest as he went 1-for-5. The 31-year-old is having one of the best offensive seasons across the majors this season with 95 RBI, 106 runs, 15 SB, and a .268/.338/.539 slash line through 148 games played. With two weeks left in the season, Semien will look to keep padding his stats in an already incredible career year.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hernandez smacked a three-run homer to propel his club past the Twins 6-2 in Saturday's afternoon contest. His towering shot in the fourth inning put the Jays ahead 4-2 at the time, and they never looked back as he finished the day going 1-for-4. The three-RBI game now gives him 58 so far in the second half to push himself into the team-lead as well as third in the majors with 106. Hernandez pairs his superb RBI total with 28 HR, 84 runs, 11 SB, and a .304 BA to prove any doubters that his 2020 breakout half-campaign was no fluke.

Sat Sep 18 202121:50Adam Wainwright Works Around Traffic In Another Quality StartAdam WainwrightSPCardinalsJetBlack
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright worked around some base runners to end up with another quality start. Pitching on Saturday against the San Diego Padres, Wainwright pitched six innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits. He did not issue a walk and struck out two. While it wasn't "Waino" at his best, he showed how excellent he is as a pitcher, taking a day where he didn't have his best stuff and holding a powerful Padres lineup to just two runs. The 40-year-old has a 2.89 ERA this season.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Sonny Gray allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings of work in a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. Gray struck out five and walked two in the outing. The Cincinnati offense has gone cold of late, which has left a smaller margin for error for the Reds starting pitchers, as evidenced by Gray taking his eighth loss despite a quality start. Gray now has a 7-8 record, 3.84 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 146 strikeouts over 126 2/3 innings of work. He will face off against the Washington Nationals next time out.

Sat Sep 18 202118:48Carson Kelly Not Starting SaturdayCarson Kelly3BCardinalsFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Carson Kelly isn't starting on Saturday against right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. and the Houston Astros. Kelly has provided quality production at the catcher position when healthy this season, especially in leagues where on-base percentage is part of the scoring. In 316 plate appearances for Arizona this year, the 26-year-old is hitting .237 with a .351 on-base percentage and 11 home runs. However, Daulton Varsho is starting on Saturday. Varsho is hitting fifth against McCullers Jr. It's a tough matchup to be sure, but the catcher could be worth a look as a streaming option. Varsho is hitting .237 with a .319 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and five stolen bases in 252 plate appearances this season.

San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Padres will match up with right-handed starter Adam Wainwright but will do so without Hosmer in the lineup. Jake Cronenworth, who is hitting second on Saturday, is moving over to first base to start in Hosmer's place. Hosmer has started each of the Padres' previous seven games, but his playing time will be worth monitoring for fantasy managers down the stretch if Cronenworth continues to start games at first base.

Sat Sep 18 202117:02Joey Gallo Exited Saturday's Game With Neck TightnessJoey Gallo3BRangersFree Agent
New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo (neck) left Saturday's game against the Indians early due to injury. Gallo is dealing with neck stiffness, which he received treatment for Friday night. Manager Aaron Boone said that the slugger could "potentially, hopefully," return to the lineup for Sunday's contest. That would be ideal for both the Yankees and fantasy managers, as Gallo has been red-hot at the dish lately, crushing six homers in the past week of play. Look for him to return to action either Sunday against Cleveland or Monday against his former team, the Rangers.

The Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Jesse Winker (side) on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to an intercostal strain. In 485 plate appearances, the 28-year-old is batting .305 with a .394 on-base percentage, 24 home runs, and a stolen base. Max Schrock and Aristides Aquino both figure to see more playing time in left field with Winker on the injured list. Schrock could be worth an add in deeper leagues for the season's final weeks. The 26-year-old is hitting .321 with a .375 on-base percentage, two home runs, and a stolen base in 88 plate appearances for the Reds this season.
